WORKSHOP ON INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in collaboration with IIT, Bombay conducted a 10 - Day ISTE Workshop on INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES under the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India) by IIT Bombay during 25 June 4 July 2012. This workshop was conducted under the eOutreach project of IIT Bombay. Live recording of the course and other created contents were released under Open Source, through a portal. This workshop covered various topics under broad categories such as Productive Thinking Skills, Management of research, etc., mainly focused to benefit all faculty members guiding and working on research projects. BIT has been selected as one of the remote centers in India. Dr. S. U. Prabha, Professor & Head/ EEE was assigned as the remote centre co-ordinator and Mr. M. Srinivasan, Assistant Professor (Sr.G)/EEE acted as the workshop co-ordinator. Faculty members from BIT as well as nearby colleges got benefited out of this workshop.

Kamalakannan, Director, Kalycito Infotech Pvt.Ltd , Coimbatore, delivered a Guest Lecture on SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT on 2 August, 2012 Mr. Kanagaraj, Marketing Engineer, Amara Raja Power Systems Ltd, Bangalore, delivered a Guest Lecture on SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT on 11 August, 2012 Ms. Joy Smitha, Lighting Specialist, Philips Ltd, Coimbatore, delivered a Guest Lecture on ILLUMINATION ENGINEERING on 17 August, 2012 Mr. Vijaya Kumar, Superintending Engineer, TNEB, Gobi, delivered a Guest Lecture on AWARENESS ON ENERGY CONSERVATION on 24 August, 2012. Mr. K. Maharajan, Administrative Officer, Radio Astronomy Center, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Ooty, delivered a Guest Lecture on SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT on 27 August, 2012 Mr. P. Rajkumar, Associate Project Manager, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, Coimbatore, delivered a Guest Lecture on CAREER GUIDANCE during the Leader of the Week Program on 22 September, 2012

THE INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS, (STUDENT BRANCH) The Student Technical Awareness Conference (STAC12) attended by about 1900 students from all over the state of Tamilnadu was conducted on 10 th and 11th of August 2012. Mr. G. Ravichandran, General Manager, Control Panel Division, Lakshmi Electrical Control Systems, Coimbatore was the chief guest and inaugurated the conference on 10th August . Mr. R. Yogesh Aravind, chairman, SB welcomed the gathering. Dr. A. Shanmugam, principal, BIT gave special address and lit a spark in the young minds of all the students about significant role of IEEE in enhancing the technical knowledge of a professional. Dr. S. U. Prabha SB counselor felicitated the chief guest and emphasized the influence of technology in the current scenario thereby the role of STAC in bringing out the inbuilt talent of the student through various events. An exclusive workshop to train the participants in PCB designing and events like Tech Quiz, Circuit Debugging, Treasure Hunt, etc. that bring out the talents and also entertain the students were conducted on the 1 st day. On the 2nd day, hands-on training on Embedded Systems, PLC & SCADA and Recent Trends in Bio-Signal & Image Processing and paper presentation on various topics were conducted. Project and poster presentation were made on both the days and winners were given prizes at the valedictory session.
