3.1

Introduction Applicable aircraft are to be maintained in accordance with the following schedules contained within this manual. Daily Inspection Daily inspection to be carried out prior to the first flight of the day in accordance with the Cessna 550 Flight Manual P/N 55FM-41. Continuous Airworthiness Inspection Program The Cessna Continuous Airworthiness Inspection Program is nominated as the Inspection schedule. Construction A. Following is the recommended continuous inspection and maintenance schedule for Model 550 airplanes. B. The program is divided into five primary phases (Phases 1 through 5), which are the main repetitive phases that make up the basic requirements of the inspection program. The remaining phases include all of the remaining inspection items. The phases and inspection interval of each are listed below. C. The inspection program is divided into phases to better enable the continuous type inspection to be accomplished. Recommended continuous type inspection may be accomplished by one of three methods. D. The remaining sections in the 5-12-XX series contain signoff sheets, which are listings of inspection items in inspection item code order. The last two digits (XX) of the chapter/section/subject correspond to the inspection phase. E. For a complete inspection program when the continuous inspection program is selected, additional inspections shall be complied with as follows: (1) Continuous - Phases 1 and on shall be performed. (2) Component Time Limits - 5-11-00, components that require maintenance at a specified time (does not include on condition items). (3) Unscheduled Maintenance Refer to 3.11

3.2

3.3

Continuous Inspection Program Procedure A. The five primary phases (Phase 1 through 5) constitute the core of the continuous inspection program. The remaining phases, which consist of the higher time inspection requirements, are not included in Phase 1 through 5 continuous inspection cycle. There are four plans (Plans A, B, C and D), which combine the various methods of accomplishing Phases 1 through 5 into a continuous inspection program. Each plan offers different inspection intervals to meet the varying needs of the individual operators. Refer to step G for the continuous inspection program chart that defines which phases are due at a specific hourly interval for each plan. This System of Maintenance nominates Plan C.

Continuous Inspection Program Procedure (cont) B. The five primary phases (Phase 1 through 5) constitute the core of the continuous inspection program. (1) Phases 1 through 4, which each have an interval of 300 hours, are designed to be accomplished in a continuous, repetitive 300-hour cycle by three different optional methods as provided in Item G. (2) Phase 5, which has an interval of 1200 hours, is designed to be accomplished in a continuous, repetitive 1200-hour cycle by four different optional methods as provided in Item H. C. The remaining phases are to be accomplished when due or at any time earlier to coincide with a convenient inspection or maintenance down time. D. The calendar time limits (such as 36 months in Phase 5) must be taken into consideration for airplanes accumulating less than the specified hours in the calendar period. E. Component Time Limits (5-11-00) lists all components, which are to be replaced or overhauled on a scheduled basis. Replacement or overhaul of items listed is required to be accomplished when due or earlier to coincide with a convenient inspection or maintenance down time. F. An operator may elect to perform the recommended inspections on a schedule other than that specified. Any inspection schedule requiring the various inspection items detailed in this chapter to be performed at a frequency equal to that specified herein or more frequently is acceptable. Any inspection item performed at a time period in excess of that specified herein must be approved by the appropriate regulating agency. G. Three optional methods of accomplishing Phases 1 through 4 are provided, and this System of Maintenance nominates Method 2: NOTE: Operators changing from one method to another of performing Phases 1 thru 4, must ensure that time from the previous inspection to the next inspection of an item does not exceed intervals indicated in this manual.

METHOD 2: Phase 1 and Phase 2 are combined and accomplished at alternate 150 hour intervals, with Phase 3 and Phase 4 being performed at the next 150-hour interval. Applicable additional phases are integrated at their due times with the first four phases. At the completion of Phase 3 and Phase 4, Phase 1 and Phase 2 will become due 150 hours later and the cycle is to be repeated. . H. Four optional plans of accomplishing Phase 5 are provided, and this System of Maintenance nominates Plan A: PLAN A: Phase 5 can be accomplished all at once, each 1200 hours concurrently with accomplishment at the end of the third cycle of Phases 1 through 4.

Continuous Inspection Program Procedure (cont) I. Hour Interval Items. (1) Upon completion of Phase 1 through Phase 4, a continued program will repeat the cycle. When reaching the 1200-hour interval, Phase 5 will be performed in conjunction with a phase corresponding to the 1200-hour interval. (2) Special inspections having hour interval will be performed with a phase corresponding to that particular hour interval. J. Time Limit Items. (1) Components and/or systems having time limits of 12 months, 24 months, 36 months, 48 months, 60 months, etc., may be performed at the specific time limit or with a phase inspection corresponding to interval. NOTE: A calendar month starts on the first day of the month. All inspections for that interval become due by the last day of that month. K. STC Installations When an STC installation is incorporated on the airplane, those portions of the airplane affected by the installation must also be inspected in accordance with the inspection program published by the owner of the STC. Requirements for STC installations not owned by Cessna are not included in this manual. L. Inspection Time Limitations NOTE: Any inspection time limit found in Section 4 of this SOM shall not be extended. A. Phases 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 due points can be extended for maintenance scheduling purposes only as provided below: (1) Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4 can be extended up to a maximum of 30 flight hours or two calendar months from the due point. (2) Phase 5 and 49 can be extended up to a maximum of 100 flight hours or two calendar months from the due point. (3) Inspection Documents MA thru ME are Chapter 4 requirements and shall not be extended. B. All remaining phase due points can be extended for maintenance scheduling purposes only up to a maximum of 10 flight hours from the due point for hourly driven inspections and 1 calendar month for calendar driven inspections. C. Any portion of the allowable extension used need not be deducted from the subsequent due point. D. Any inspection program based on the intervals of the items in this chapter, or more frequent intervals, is acceptable. M. Program Startup NOTE: This procedure for program startup applies only to airplanes that have been previously using an inspection program other than Cessna's recommended Continuous Inspection Program. To start this continuous inspection program, the following steps must be accomplished for airplanes other than those newly manufactured. (1) (2) (3) (4) Conduct a Log Book Audit. Conduct a complete airplane inspection by performing Phases 1 through 5. Start the program at Phase number 1. (Refer to Continuous Inspection Program Procedure) Continue performing inspections in the normal manner.
