WEEK 2 Task: Analyzing a Course using the Elements of Thought Questions Purpose What is the purpose of your course? (in one sentence) Assumptions What assumptions are you making about your students at the start of the course? Points of View What points of view (on the subject/ skills/ topics being taught) will be stressed in this course? Your Responses (please complete the statements with information that relates to your particular course) The purpose of this course is to develop reading and writing skills of the learners. At the beginning of the course, I assume that my students have the basic knowledge of English grammar, reading and writing skills. I assume that they know how to generate a grammatically correct sentence. They know basic terminology of grammar such as phrase, clause, sentence, simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence etc. The departments point of view is to prepare the learners for their professional life and make them feel at ease in their jobs. I share the same view(s). However, I believe that writing is a kind of catharsis as well. One can bring out on page what one cannot share with others orally. In addition, reading can prove to be the best source which renders both knowledge and entertainment.

Information What type of information will students need to access during this course? Some essential concepts students learn about in this course are: Comprehension, summary, expansion, paragraph, topic sentence, thesis, support, unity, coherence, cohesion, primary & secondary support, concluding sentence, introduction, discussion, conclusion, argument, premise, inference The learners will need to access information about reading and writing such as paragraph, comprehension, expansion and essay . They will access the required material which is available at the department.

Conclusions / Inferences Based on the learning students do in this course, what conclusions will students draw or what inferences might they make? Implications What are some implications of the above inferences/conclusions that students learn to make in this course?

Having mastered the prescribed reading and writing skills they will be able to use the skills in their professional lives. They will be better readers and better writer. They could comprehend the long passages in a short time, could abridge the long passage, could understand arguments, could read and write critically.

Based on the afore-mentioned conclusions that students are likely to make, some Implications are: -learners will become good readers and writers -learners will be interested in creative writing -learners can be contribute to literature with their amateur writing -learners can make writing their profession as well -learners can express their views in writing and can share the same with world
