There is one survey of the Jewish question in Europe during World War Two and the conditions of Germany's concentration camps which is almost unique in its honesty and objectivity, the three-volume Report of the International Committee of the Red Cross on its Activities during the Second World War, Geneva, 1948. This comprehensive account from an entirely neutral source incorporated and expanded the findings of two previous works: Documents sur l'activit du CICR en faveur des civils dtenus dans les camps de concentration en Allemagne 1939-1945 (Geneva, 1946), and Inter Arma Caritas: the Work of the ICRC during the Second World War (Geneva, 1947). The team of authors, headed by Frdric Siordet, explained in the opening pages of the Report that their object, in the tradition of the Red Cross, had been strict political neutrality, and herein lies its great value. The ICRC successfully applied the 1929 Geneva military convention in order to gain access to civilian internees held in Central and Western Europe by the Germany authorities. By contrast, the ICRC was unable to gain any access to the Soviet Union, which had failed to ratify the Convention. The millions of civilian and military internees held in the USSR, whose conditions were known to be by far the worst, were completely cut off from any international contact or supervision. The Red Cross Report is of value in that it first clarifies the legitimate circumstances under which Jews were detained in concentration camps, i.e. as enemy aliens. In describing the two categories of civilian internees, the Report distinguishes the second type as "Civilians deported on administrative grounds (in German, "Schutzhftlinge"), who were arrested for political or racial motives because their presence was considered a danger to the State or the occupation forces" (Vol. 111, p. 73). These persons, it continues, "were placed on the same footing as persons arrested or imprisoned under common law for security reasons." (P.74). The Report admits that the Germans were at first reluctant to permit supervision by the Red Cross of people detained on grounds relating to security, but by the latter part of 1942, the ICRC obtained important concessions from Germany. They were permitted to distribute food parcels to major concentration camps in Germany from August 1942, and "from February 1943 onwards this concession was extended to all other camps and prisons" (Vol. 111, p. 78). The ICRC soon established contact with camp commandants and launched a food relief programme which continued to function until the last months of 1945, letters of thanks for which came pouring in from Jewish internees.

Red Cross Recipients Were Jews

The Report states that "As many as 9,000 parcels were packed daily. From the autumn of 1943 until May 1945, about 1,112,000 parcels with a total weight of 4,500 tons were sent off to the concentration camps" (Vol. III, p. 80). In addition to food, these contained clothing and pharmaceutical supplies. "Parcels were sent to Dachau, Buchenwald, Sangerhausen, Sachsenhausen, Oranienburg, Flossenburg, Landsberg-am-Lech, Flha, Ravensbrck, Hamburg-Neuengamme, Mauthausen, Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, to camps near Vienna and in Central and Southern Germany. The principal recipients were Belgians, Dutch, French, Greeks, Italians, Norwegians, Poles and stateless Jews" (Vol. III, p. 83). In the course of the war, "The Committee was in a position to transfer and distribute in the form of relief supplies over twenty million Swiss francs collected by Jewish welfare organisations throughout the world, in particular by the American Joint Distribution Committee of New York" (Vol. I, p. 644). This latter organisation was permitted by the German Government to maintain offices in Berlin until the American entry into the war. The ICRC complained that obstruction of their vast relief operation for Jewish internees came not from the Germans but from the tight Allied blockade of Europe. Most of their purchases of relief food were made in Rumania, Hungary and Slovakia. The ICRC had special praise for the liberal conditions which prevailed at Theresienstadt up to the time of their last visits there in April 1945. This camp, "where there were about 40,000 Jews deported from various countries was a relatively privileged ghetto" (Vol. III, p. 75). According to the Report, "'The Committee's delegates were able to visit the camp at Theresienstadt (Terezin) which was used exclusively for Jews and was governed by special conditions. From information gathered by the Committee, this camp had been started as an experiment by certain leaders of the Reich ... These men wished to give the Jews the means of setting up a communal life in a town under their own administration and possessing almost complete autonomy. . . two delegates were able to visit the camp on April 6th, 1945. They confirmed the favourable impression gained on the first visit" (Vol. I, p . 642). The ICRC also had praise for the regime of Ion Antonescu of Fascist Rumania where the Committee was able to extend special relief to 183,000 Rumanian Jews until the time of the Soviet occupation. The aid then ceased, and the ICRC complained bitterly that it never succeeded "in sending anything whatsoever to Russia" (Vol. II, p. 62). The same situation applied to many of the German camps after their "liberation" by the Russians. The ICRC received a voluminous flow of mail from Auschwitz until the period of the Soviet occupation, when many of the internees

were evacuated westward. But the efforts of the Red Cross to send relief to internees remaining at Auschwitz under Soviet control were futile. However, food parcels continued to be sent to former Auschwitz inmates transferred west to such camps as Buchenwald and Oranienburg.

No Evidence Of Genocide
One of the most important aspects of the Red Cross Report is that it clarifies the true cause of those deaths that undoubtedly occurred in the camps toward the end of the war. Says the Report: "In the chaotic condition of Germany after the invasion during the final months of the war, the camps received no food supplies at all and starvation claimed an increasing number of victims. Itself alarmed by this situation, the German Government at last informed the ICRC on February 1st, 1945 ... In March 1945, discussions between the President of the ICRC and General of the S.S. Kaltenbrunner gave even more decisive results. Relief could henceforth be distributed by the ICRC, and one delegate was authorised to stay in each camp ..." (Vol. III, p. 83). Clearly, the German authorities were at pains to relieve the dire situation as far as they were able. The Red Cross are quite explicit in stating that food supplies ceased at this time due to the Allied bombing of German transportation, and in the interests of interned Jews they had protested on March 15th, 1944 against "the barbarous aerial warfare of the Allies" (Inter Arma Caritas, p. 78). By October 2nd, 1944, the ICRC warned the German Foreign Office of the impending collapse of the German transportation system, declaring that starvation conditions for people throughout Germany were becoming inevitable. In dealing with this comprehensive, three-volume Report, it is important to stress that the delegates of the International Red Cross found no evidence whatever at the camps in Axis occupied Europe of a deliberate policy to exterminate the Jews. In all its 1,600 pages the Report does not even mention such a thing as a gas chamber. It admits that Jews, like many other wartime nationalities, suffered rigours and privations, but its complete silence on the subject of planned extermination is ample refutation of the Six Million legend. Like the Vatican representatives with whom they worked, the Red Cross found itself unable to indulge in the irresponsible charges of genocide which had become the order of the day. So far as the genuine mortality rate is concerned, the Report points out that most of the Jewish doctors from the camps were being used to combat typhus on the eastern front, so that they were unavailable when the typhus epidemics of 1945 broke out in the camps (Vol. I, p. 204 ff) - Incidentally, it is frequently claimed that mass executions were carried out in gas chambers cunningly disguised as shower facilities. Again the Report makes nonsense of this allegation. "Not only the washing places, but installations for baths, showers and laundry were inspected by the delegates. They had often to take action to have fixtures made less primitive, and to get them repaired or enlarged" (Vol. III, p. 594).

Not All Were Interned

Volume III of the Red Cross Report, Chapter 3 (I. Jewish Civilian Population) deals with the "aid given to the Jewish section of the free population," and this chapter makes it quite plain that by no means all of the European Jews were placed in internment camps, but remained, subject to certain restrictions, as part of the free civilian population. This conflicts directly with the "thoroughness" of the supposed "extermination programme", and with the claim in the forged Hss memoirs that Eichmann was obsessed with seizing "every single Jew he could lay his hands on." In Slovakia, for example, where Eichmann's assistant Dieter Wisliceny was in charge, the Report states that "A large proportion of the Jewish minority had permission to stay in the country, and at certain periods Slovakia was looked upon as a comparative haven of refuge for Jews, especially for those coming from Poland. Those who remained in Slovakia seem to have been in comparative safety until the end of August 1944, when a rising against the German forces took place. While it is true that the law of May 15th, 1942 had brought about the internment of several thousand Jews, these people were held in camps where the conditions of food and lodging were tolerable, and where the internees were allowed to do paid work on terms almost equal to those of the free labour market" (Vol. I, p. 646). Not only did large numbers of the three million or so European Jews avoid internment altogether, but the emigration of Jews continued throughout the war, generally by way of Hungary, Rumania and Turkey. Ironically, post-war Jewish emigration from German-occupied territories was also facilitated by the Reich, as in the case of the Polish Jews who had escaped to France before its occupation. "The Jews from Poland who, whilst in France, had obtained entrance permits to the United States were held to be American citizens by the German occupying authorities, who further agreed to recognize the validity of about three thousand passports issued to Jews by the consulates of South American countries" (Vol. I, p. 645). As future U.S. citizens, these Jews were held at the Vittel camp in southern France for American aliens. The emigration of European Jews from Hungary in particular proceeded during the war unhindered by the German authorities. "Until March 1944," says the. Red Cross Report, "Jews who had the privilege of visas for Palestine were free to leave Hungary" (Vol. I, p. 648). Even after the replacement of the Horthy Government in 1944 (following its attempted armistice with the Soviet Union) with a government more dependent on German authority, the emigration of Jews continued. The Committee secured the pledges of both Britain and the United States "to give support by every means to the emigration of Jews from Hungary," and from the U.S. Government the ICRC received a message stating that "The Government of the United States ... now specifically repeats its assurance that arrangements will be made by it for the care of all Jews who in the present circumstances are allowed to leave" (Vol. I, p . 649). Biedermann agreed that in the nineteen instances that "Did Six Million Really Die?" quoted from the Report of the International Committee of the Red Cross on its Activities during the Second World War and Inter Arma Caritas (this includes the above material), it did so accurately. Total Auschwitz Deaths by Black Wednesday February 09, 2005 at 08:29 AM Recent revisionist extrapolations (1944 Auschwitz records death numbers not yet found) indicate a maximum of 160,000 dead (Gentile & Jew). Pro-Holocaust sources still contend from "secret lists" not yet found that approx. 1 million Jews were exterminated entering the camp. Interesting that the original 4 million number of dead at the camp was removed in 1990 (in 1989 the death registers were revealed). In 1995 the new official number was 1.5 million. Interesting that Hoess's "confession" (Present in the Jewish Holocaust Musuem in Wash. D.C. ) indicates that under his command which ended in the end of 1943 (1944 according to pro-Holocaust was suppopsed to be a very big kill year) that 2.5 million inmates were put to death and another 1/2 million died of disease. These numbers make no sense and appear to correspond to the development of the 4 million figure (good until 1990) which no one now agrees with. Propaganda stares you right in the face. However, I fail to understand why being a holocaust revisionist or denyer is illegal in certain countries except that it just has to be a conspiracy of some sort. Otherwise it makes no sense...What is it about the holocaust that makes it immune to any scrutiny

There is a ton of evidence which suggests that the number of Jewish dead is at the very least exagerated and there are also independant studies which have been done on the alleged gas chambers which found no evidence(ie. gas residue) that the showers were used as such. Furthermore, the studies also show that there would have had to be a staggering number of killings each for the numbers to add up. Again, I am not anti jewish or anything like that, I just have an open mind. Remember...57 million Europeans died in WWII so even if the figure of 6 million jewish people were accurate...is it disproportional? How come the other 52 million people don't matter? add your comments

If indeed the facts are being cited as accurately as possible from Red Cross reports, then the facts should be given considerable weight having been made at the time of the events. I don't see how the Red Cross would benefit from attempting to rewrite history without a motive. So it comes back to weight especially now without controverting facts, or those alleged facts without sources. Propaganda or anything that looks like it is readily identifiable that involves motive, supersition, or evokes emotion. These are not controving facts. add your comments

Rabbi by Izzy Monday November 21, 2005 at 08:45 AM It is well known that the Germans had some camps that were very good, for the red cross to examine (such as certain childrens camps), others that were "work camps", and yet others for working all sorts of people to death. Many of the red cross packages only reached prisoners on occasions where they actulay visited, and other times a supplementary (and that all the red cross packages were) gift was the main ration for prsoners. I base these assertions on coversations of actual prisoners I TALKED TO...not some agenda based "historian". I don't hold dogmatic beleifs in the actual numbers of Jews killed, and I don't think the real number is possible to qauntify...simply because much of the killing was done at local levels not even directly tied to the SS. Many masscres blamed on Germans were in fact perpetrated by Poles, Lithuanians , Croatians etc. For example one side of my fathers family simply disapered in 1938...we suspect locals embued with Natzi ideology , but not even the Germans themselves. It is safe to say those who make an industry out of Jewish deaths will themselves be punnished by their own rod. For the non-jewish population has grown weary of the mantra, and soon the assimilated Jews will re-learn past lessons about just how much the Non-Jewish world really cares. Ieudea Victora, R. They worshipped Hitler as Egypt worshipped Pharoah, and followed him right off the cliff into the abyss. Of course there are major distortions propagated in a post-war world. History has always been written by the winners. Even people who understand the exaggerations tend to brush it all aside in the name of Karma. "The Germans were so awful on every level everywhere they went, who cares if the numbers of dead are inflated? They deserve everything they get, especially reputation. They committed so many documented atrocities that people will believe anything tossed their way. But don't expect too many people to rally to the lost cause of misunderstood concentration camp commandants". This is a tough argument to battle. It's not that the truth hurts too much, it's that most folks just don't give a damn about the degrees of Nazi barbarism. Those perps are on the very bottom of the human totem pole, along with child molesters and cannibals. Did they only ruin one child or ten? Did they only eat one person or 30? Who cares? They all went over the perimeter of basic humanity, a ballistic leap into the chasm of no return. When i was a kind my mom took me to meet 2 surviving relitives that had tatoos on there arms. I was all of 6 and aked them why they had number tatooed on there arms. They just looked at each other and did not answer me. Guess that was just a fake, to plant the seeds in my little Jewish brain. Of course there were all these missing relatives who stayed in Europe, they were just killed, guess that was a fake too. Usually I am for the free flow of ideas, but I am not sure now. Denying the Holocaust has led to further attempts at genocide. Africa nations, Moslem nations, Indigenous populations slaughtered for their lands or their mineral wealth. Some are slaughtered by governments exercising excuses of terrorism and mass killing possiblilities. Now, I'm slightly curious. What's the difference? Death of six million in the war where fifty million were slain by weapons and the rest by starvation and trauma, and the killing now of millions for the sake of the american dollar or the international currency of oil? Someone should think abou those things, and stop trying to justify or ignore or gloss over the fact that humans kill one another over nothing but threats and fears. What a shame that we do not learn from the past and deny that something that bad has even happened. One of the most serious, is why is it a crime to ask questions about the events, or to research them without governmental approval in some countries? If any government or organization insists that opinions about, questions of or research into historical occurrances is a crime, then it is axiomatic that the history less than completely truthful. Another question that desperately needs an answer, is "Why is this genocide different from all other genocides?" It certainly isn't the largest, the first, the last, or even the most horrible genocide. Selecting the most horrible genocide is subjective, and is certainly open to debate. But, the Cambodians certainly are heavy contenders for using preadolescent children to select and execute large numbers of victims, because the children were "pure and untainted". Well, it won't. Diudn't and won't. Didn't then and won't now. It is instructimve to examine the attitudes of the Jewish population, for instance in the USA, before and after the invention of the WWII-genocide story. Before, Jews were deserting the flock in droves, many preferring to assimilate into the mainstream culture. Others were becoming reform Jews, keeping the religious component but favoring cultural assimilation and rejecting Zionism. The alleged WWII genocide of Jews totally reversed this trend, as Jews, most of whom believed the scam, made common cause against a perceived enemy: From the Wikipedia: Since the Holocaust and the establishment of the modern State of Israel, Reform Judaism has largely repudiated anti-Zionism, though the American Council for Judaism continues to support integration and oppose Jewish nationalism. The fact of the matter is, to an educated mind, that number is just plain silly. That said, I'm a firm believer of the old saying, "where there's smoke, there's probably fire." It's quite likely that executions of "undesirables" took place, as they have during every war in history. No one, I think, can deny that in good faith.... what is in question is not whether atrocities took place, but the extent to which this behaviour was practised. In the end, exagerating historical data does not lend credence to your argument. Supporting the six million figure simply makes you look like a fool to those who can grasp that number, and all the details surrounding the claim. Sure, it's a big number, and it will make the mindless masses cringe when paired with the shocking newsreels from the "liberation" of Germany, but the much smaller, educated population, will laugh at you, in spite of the seriousness of the situation. Do you understand what I'm saying? Supporting such ludicrous claims devalues your argument on a whole -- and, by association, minimizes the historical impact of the Holocaust. In what appears to be something out of a surreal dream, the German trial of Ernst Zundel has been temporarily ended because all his lawyers could not get one of their many motions accepted by the court judge. I guess there is a German rule that says: defense lawyers have to produce a semblance of competence by making at least one motion stand up. I don't really know. Anyway, Zundel has a new lawyer, and the trial may re-open in February. The charge? Denial of the Holocaust. Or something like that. In Canada, during his three trials, Zundel was charged with threatening national security. Threatening how? By denying the accepted story, in certain respects, of the Holocaust. After perusing a number of articles about Zundel on the rense.com site, I presume that Zundel is a very unpopular man because he is stating that the Nazi extermination of Jews during WW2 has been grossly exaggerated, in terms of actual numbers of Jews killed. So far, I find no evidence that Zundel has committed a crime against any person or piece of property, in the usual sense of crime. Nor do I find any direct inciting to violence on the part of Zundel. In other words, he is being held in prison (as he was in Canada) because he expresses certain thoughts. Of course, in several European countries, Holocaust denial is itself a crime. There are a couple of issues here. One is, can your words be taken by other people as reason for THEM to commit a violent crime? As far as I'm concerned, there are nutcases and morons running around from the Arctic Circle to Tierra Del Fuego who will, on the slightest provocation, steal property and commit assault. One only has to look at the laws in the US to see that indirect participation in a "crime" is a growing trend. For example, a person can be found innocent of robbery but found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery. "We talked about it, we planned it, but then we got cold feet." "Who cares? Guilty of conspiracy. This court is adjourned." Note that Zundel is not being charged with conspiracy. I'm merely pointing out that INDIRECT labels can be extended in all sorts of directions. In fact, as political correctness spreads like ink on a blotter all over the planet, people are warned that the slightest off-center remark might damage another person within hearing distance for life. Then comes the issue of Zundel's accuracy in his written and spoken comments about the Holocaust. Is he right? Is he wrong? Is he really trying to deceive? Is he saying what he says because, in his heart, he is a racist or an anti-Semite? The circular argument goes this way: since Zundel obviously knows what he is saying is false, he must have another strategy; he must be trying to float a lie for an ulterior motive. Well, if it is now the law to make an examination of someone's heart and soul in judging criminal innocence or guilt, we can hang it up and move to another planet. By any rational standard, who the hell cares what Zundel is saying, in so far as his innocence or guilt is concerned? He's saying it. He has the right to say it. He can say it from now until the cows come home. In my experience, it is the incredibly shallow and inexperienced and desperate people who try to divine other citizens' ulterior motives at the drop of a hat and pin all sorts of labels on them, over and over. I'm reminded of the many painstaking domeheads, back in the day, who would take the work of a famous artist and apply their own version of psychoanalytic theory to his work and, in the process, try to reduce that artist to ashes. Now, it may be that Zundel has actually done things I don't know about. So far, I haven't found anything that really surprises me. I'm willing to be shown---but as far as I can tell, the man is being prosecuted for stating what he believes to be facts. It also appears that his defense team in Germany is not permitted to offer evidence that Zundel's version of the Holocaust is accurate. "You're being prosecuted for saying X. And we will not allow proof that X is true. The crime is saying X. Shut up." Here I'm reminded of US trials in which federal prosecutors try to ramrod a defendant who has sold medicines not approved by the FDA. In court, when the defendant's lawyers move to introduce evidence that the medicine in question actually cures disease, the judge refuses to allow such presentation.

"We're not here to determine whether the defendant is a hero in healing people. We only want to know whether he sold a substance to treat a disease, and whether the FDA has approved this substance. If the FDA has not certified it as safe and effective, the defendant is guilty as hell." It also reminds me of US Supreme Court Justice Scalia's famous remark: the revelation of new exculpatory evidence is not sufficient to warrant a re-trial for a person who is currently serving time in prison for having committed a crime. New trials are only granted when it's shown that the previous trial was, procedurally speaking, deeply flawed. In other words, who cares whether the convicted person is really guilty? Do Zundel's statements about the Holocaust offend many people? Of course. Is that a crime? No. Does the principle of free speech exceed the fact that people are offended? Yes. What about 9/11? What about the justification for waging war in Vietnam and Iraq? What about claiming that AIDS is not a contagious germ-driven disease? What about people who claim that FDR knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor and let it happen? What about people who say Bill Clinton sold out America by letting military-tech secrets flow from here to China, in exchange for a few dollars placed in his re-election campaign fund? What about people who say we never went to the moon? What about people who say that George Bush has the intellect of a chimp? In these and hundreds of other situations, it is quite possible to make statements that will offend others deeply. Shall we put a censor to work scrubbing all these statements out of existence? Shall we hold show trials and put people in jail? On the road to freedom, we say that potential victims of others' speech are going to have to suck it up and get past all that. It may not be nice, but that's the way things work. On the road to tyranny, we say that anything you might say that will cause a person emotional distress is illegal and you will be punished severely for it, by the legal system, backed up by official guns and official prison bars. I know which way I'm going. If Zundel has done nothing other than revise, downward, accepted estimates of the Holocaust, if he has done nothing other than claim he knows who is protecting the official scenario, then let him out of jail. Let him go and let him live his life. Stop trying to put him on trial. What about people who claim there was tremendous black African participation in selling fellow Africans to the American slavemasters, who then brought those slaves to this country? That picture contradicts the official scenario. Why aren't those Holocaust deniers being arrested and tried and placed in prisons? And by the way, wasn't there a US court case about a year ago in which---to the consternation of many---it was ruled that a media news outlet (FOX) could lie with impunity? Could escape even a judgment in a civil suit? So even if Zundel is intentionally lying through his teeth, so what? Does he have fewer rights than FOX or CNN? See, at the end of the day, accuracy and truth don't matter at all, when it comes to speech. Now if you tell a number of lies aimed at a particular and specific person or group, with the idea of injuring their reputations, then that is actionable in a suit. But Zundel is not being sued. If he were, he could introduce evidence to support his statements as being true. In his book, Primo Levi estimates that 800 choose to wait for the Soviets at Auschwitz, while 20,000 choose to go (with the "mass-murdering" Nazis). So, why exactly did Elie Wiesel, Primo Levi and at least 20,000 others, most of whom were Jews, CHOOSE to go with the "mass-murdering" Nazis rather than wait for liberation by the Soviets?

THE HILARIOUS AUSCHWITZ STORY.

On January 17, 1945, when the Germans evacuated Auschwitz, 67,012 prisoners remained (plus those in the camp hospital). Now instead of killing all 67,012+ prisoners, the Germans left about 7,650 prisoners at Auschwitz to be liberated by the Soviets, and marched the rest to other concentration camps (errrr,.. that should be, death camps). The great majority of these people survived, becoming "holocaust survivors." Amazing isn't it,... that the evil Nazis who had been "mass-killing millions of Jews" didn't bother to finish off this last bunch. Don't you think that this is a rather strange thing for the Nazis to do, leaving about 70,000 witnesses to "genocide". Even stranger, is that the Jewish prisoner, Elie Wiesel states in his book "Night" that when the Germans evacuated Auschwitz, he was given the option of staying at the hospital, with his father registered as a patient, to await the Soviets, or join the evacuation with the "mass-murdering" Nazis. Guess what? He chose to leave with the "mass-murdering" Nazis, taking his father with him. Isn't it funny,... that the Jew Elie Wiesel (whose book describes horrendous Nazi "mass-killings" of Jews at Auschwitz) should choose to go with the very same Nazis that had been "mass-killing" Jews, rather than wait for the Soviets. Another strange thing about Elie Wiesel's account of life at Auschwitz is that he never, not even once, mentions gas chambers. In his version of the fiction, the Jews were burnt alive in huge pits, with the fat from the bodies scooped up to make soap.

Now, since human bodies don't burn, we know that this is a lie, unless you believe that the Germans carved down all the forests of Poland to provide wood for the fires that roasted the 4 million (errrr,... that's right it is now 1.5 million). And even then there is the little problem regarding fires in pits,... they tend to go out due to a lack of oxygen,... but why let a few facts get in the way of a good story. There is another account of happenings at Auschwitz on January 17th, 1945, from the book "Survival in Auschwitz," by Primo Levi. Comment in parenthesis added. So Primo Levi was also given the choice of staying or leaving. His "weakness" caused him to await the Soviets, even though he was fearful of the outcome. Levi states that 800 others choose to remain in Auschwitz, and 20,000 choose to go (with the "mass-murdering Nazis"). His numbers do not add up, but clearly, as a prisoner he could only roughly estimate these, and he could only estimate numbers from his particular sub-camp (among many). add your comments

Holocaust Now by Donald Way Tuesday February 21, 2006 at 01:24 PM 2006-02-20 David Irving goes to prison VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Right-wing British historian David Irving pleaded guilty Monday to denying the Holocaust and was sentenced to three years in prison, even after conceding he wrongly said there were no Nazi gas chambers at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

AP It goes without saying that this is an utterly reprehensible action, one I might expect to have seen a victorious Nazi Germany commit a Nazi Germany as portrayed by the Jewish-dominated media at least rather than the supposedly freedom-loving nations who've come to prosper as a result of Nazi Germany's defeat.

Let's be clear as to what is being said here: There is no evidence that Jews were systematically or deliberately targeted for destruction. There can't be, because if there was, we wouldn't need to throw people in prison for saying otherwise. We would be able to disprove these allegations in open debate. We would be able to do to David Irving what we routinely do to other people who advance unpopular or unsound theories or ideas, advance competing theories and ideas that make more sense or that conform more generally to the facts at hand and let each person decide for themselves which is true and which is nonsense.

Prior to all these arrests of so-called Holocaust deniers, I had no problem with the official version of events in WWII. Now I do. We are obviously being lied to. Moreover, the lie must be a whopper, something of such import that were the truth revealed something of great worth to those in power would be lost as a result. History is written by the victors, we are reminded time and again. So the question now before us is, what lies are present in today's version of events for that time period and whose interests are being served? Why is it so damned important that we be made to see history in exactly this one way and not any other?

It certainly isn't to prevent the same mistakes from happening all over again, because they are! Even accepting conventional WWII history as all being true, it is still plain to the naked eye that today's governments are every bit as brutal as the ones that came before. It is easy to portray Nazi Germany as the epitome of all evil when only one side of the story gets presented, as easy as it is convenient to try to hide from view all manner of evil as performed by our government today.

If it is the lessons one particular version of history teaches that causes us to demand obedience to it, then must it not be demonstrated that we've learned from that history, and that those events repugnant to us are not being repeated?

We need to stop killing each other. I think banning what is called "hate speech" has the purpose of stopping or reducing violence, so I can endorse the intent if not the actual mechanism that is being employed here. I note that even with the prohibition against "hate speech" in place, violence is just as prevalent today as it was before the

prohibition was put in place; of particular note is the behavior of governments today, esp. that of Israel, the United States and Great Britain. These governments are of note not only because they claim to uphold democratic principles but because you and I likely give these governments support, even if only indirectly, and so we become complicit in the atrocities they commit as a result.

If we are serious about banning speech that can promote violence, that is, if we are willing to abandon those principles which we've heretofore held out as what separates western civilization from the rest of the world, then I recommend we look at banning not just one version of history or another but banning history outright.
