Name of Programme : English Week The English Week programme was carried out successfully by the English Language Panel Committee members for all the students in Sekolah Kebangsaan Lukut (SKL) in Year 2012. The whole programme was carried out smoothing as planned and as being scheduled, all the English teachers were assigned to be the facilitators for the activities have done their job and fulfill their responsibilities towards the success of the programme. Aims Aims of English Week is to promote and encourage the use of English among the students. Furthermore it was to build the students confidence in using the English language for communication. Besides it was to create an opputunity for all participants to speak English. Objectives The objectives of English Week is to make the students feel at ease in using English Language as a communicational tool. It is also hoped to encourage the students to deal with the English language learning process in their own way. Hence to teach the students to be independence and cooperation. Finally, to make English language learning is fun. This programme was carried out during the school days. The whole programme was three days starting from 28th February 2012 till 1st March 2012. Through out the English Week, various interesting activities had been planned abd been carried out for the students. The English teachers had prepared the special activities for the students and many interesting indoor and outdoor activities for them for the three days. All the participants took part in all the activities actively and gave their fullest support and cooperation to the teachers by taking part in all activities lively.

Activities Public Speaking and Story Telling There were many activities carried out by English Language Panel Committee. On the first day, (28th February 2012) the public speaking activity was held from 8.00 a.m 10.30 a.m. the activity took about two and a half hours and conducted at the assembly park. This activity was organized for pupils from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. For this activity, pupils been asked to present or to give a talk about any issues given. The main purpose of this activity is to develop communication skills among students. In spite of that, the activity also will increase their confident level as they have to speak in front of the audience. Examples of issues given are drugs, discipline problems, and others simple issue that suitable with their level. Another activity that also involved by Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils was Story telling activity. This activity was held at 11.00 a.m to 2.00 p.m. The venue of this activity was also at assembly park. Participants were to tell their stories based on the themes set by the organizing committee. The themes were courage, kindness and responsibility. The stories to be presented could be taken from old folklore or modern stories. The objective is to improve pronunciation and fluency and also to build confidence in
them.

Spelling On the second day, which is on 29th February 2012, Spelling activity was held for Year 3, 4 , 5 and 6 pupils. This activity took about two and a half hours and took place at Dewan Gemilang. The candidates have to spell the words given correctly. They need to listen the pronunciation of the words given correctly as they need to spell the words. The main purpose of this activity is to improve pupils vocabulary and also the listening skill. Action Song This activity was the most popular activity since many pupils love to sing a song and at the same time they need to do some actions. There were many participation from

the pupils during this activity. This activity surely will improve the pupils confident level and they singing talents. Words And Picture Maze This activity was carried out for all the pupils in the school. They need to solve the words and picture that been jumbled up. This activity acquires pupils thinking skills and strategies. Build Up Words As for this activity, pupils been asked to build up words from the alphabets given. This activity also requires the pupils thinking skill and also their vocab ularies knowledge. Matching Sounds To Picture The matching sounds to picture activity been carried out in order to improve the pupils knowledge about the sound of animals around them. They need to match the sound of the animals with the picture of animals correctly. It was such a fun activity as pupils were able to have a fun learning activity. All of these activities were very fun and was able to attract the pupils to participate. This is because most of the pupils were interested in fun learning activities such as games instead of boring activities. Strengths and weakness of programme The English Language Panel had its own built in strength where as they have seven English Language Option teachers to run this programme. Well organized with a few meeting ahead among the panel members before the actual programme led to their success of this programme. The only absolute weakness of this programme is the facilitators failed to force the participants to use English as a made of communication through the English Week. The students failed to appreciate the main objectives of the camp. Thus they spoke their native language from time to time with their friends during the English Week.

Suggestions and recommendations. The school administrative should get involved and give necessary aids to the English Panel in carrying out this programme. They can make it as the school programme by involving all the teachers or the whole school in this programme. Thus, the English Language teachers those who run this programme would have more time to concentrate in the core objective of this programme; imparting the knowledge of English rather than the administrative and clerical work during the English in programme. Some allocation of funds should be channeled by the school authority for this programme as the members of the English Panel could buy presents for the activities in the camp. Conclusion This programme is very meaningful for the pupils because during the three days, they have to learned many new activities and they have tried at least at their minimum level to use English with their friends and teachers during the English Week. Thus, this programme should carried out in the future and the school should make it as its annual programme. The English panel also hoped that to further improve the 2012 English Week in order to make use of English language more visible in this school.
