Internship Site: Midway Elementary 180 Midway Rd. Lexington, SC 29072 (803) 821-0300 Contacts: Jan Fickling (On-Site Supervisor) Principal of Midway Elementary (803)821-0300 jfickling@lexington1.net Brandy Ludlam (Mentor) Guidance Counselor (803) 821-0309 bludlam@lexington1.net Ashley Bonte (Intern) 4th Grade Teacher (803) 821-0350 abonte@lexington1.net Context Midway Elementary is one of 17 elementary schools in Lexington 1 School District. It is located only a few miles away from the capitol Columbia, South Carolina. Serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, Midway has 45 classrooms with an average of 22 students per room. The staff at Midway goes beyond the 45 certified teachers in each room. With support staff, administration, and related arts teachers added to the count, the numbers of employees working with children every single day doubles. In order to cater to the same mission statement and goals for our overall student population, a lot of professional development is incorporated and funded by our district. One of the focuses for professional development for this past school year (as well as many school years to come) was to integrate 21st Century Skills for Global Citizens into our every day language and teaching. While training was completed by all staff members, there was and still is a lack of teaching materials to directly connect these skills inside the classroom. There is also a problem of new teachers entering the profession and only receiving guidance by word of mouth. Ready-made activities to reinforce these skills as well as training for new employees is a current need. Learning Goals and Objectives During the internship, I will develop and refine my skills, knowledge and ability to: Identify an appropriate tool to develop a training module for teachers Evaluate and develop assessment tools for teachers and students Identify, evaluate, and develop child-friendly technological tool. Identify a strategy that makes training and teaching components accessible

Responsibilities and Tasks During my internship, I will work with my mentor/guidance counselor as well as my media specialist to brainstorm a way to make the training module, quizzes, and teaching components accessible by all those in the school. I will then seek out different tools to use to design these different components. I will test my tools in my own classroom with my fourth graders along the way to make sure they are accessible, engaging, and apply in a variety of learning contexts. Deliverables To demonstrate achievement of my objectives, I will submit for my internship portfolio: - Training module for teachers - Web-based assessment to evaluate teachers knowledge on training module - Child-friendly technological component to teach each character skill - Web-based assessment to evaluate students knowledge on character skills - 3-10 page reflection Schedule and Milestones Week 1 Decide on tool to use to create each aspect of the project Develop assessment questions for training module Weeks 2-4 Create training module for teachers Create quiz for teachers Week 5 Develop assessment questions for each character skill Week 6 Develop a rough outline for what each character skill lesson will entail Decide on tool to use Weeks 7-8 Create first 5 character skill lessons Week 9 Test student component in classroom and make necessary corrections Weeks 10-11 Create final 5 character skill lessons Week 12 Develop a place in Edmodo (or elsewhere) to store material so that it is accessible Write 3-10 page reflection
