The Calumet Memorial Park District was established in 1922 as a separate governing agency for the purpose of providing programs and facilities that are of a quality that will enhance an individuals physical and emotional health, cultural and intellectual development and fulll a social need. The CMPD is responsible for the maintenance, operation and administration of parks and facilities under its jurisdiction.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Calumet Memorial Park District strives to offer quality recreational, cultural and educational programming, which is cost effective for the community and inclusive to all. Through a well-trained, educated and empowered workforce, we aim to provide absolute customer service, a safe environment and superior parks and recreational facilities.

BOUNDARIES

Park District boundaries encompass the communities of Calumet City and Burnham, as well as the eastern portions of Dolton and South Holland. In general, the boundaries are areas south of 138th St., north of the Little Calumet River/ 170th St., west of State Line Rd. and east of the Bishop Ford Freeway.

General Information

Registration is now being taken for fall programs and trips! All program and activity participants MUST sign a waiver (Parent or Legal Guardian must sign for participants under the age of 18). All photographic, video or digital images taken by the CMPD staff become the property of the Calumet Memorial Park District. Those wishing not to be photographed must notify the Executive Director in writing (NOTE: Fitness Center Cards and Pool Passes require mandatory participant photos). If you would like to be a part of the CMPD Volunteer Program, please call (708) 862-6443. Volunteers between the ages of 12 to 15 may apply to participate in our Junior Leader program. All volunteers must ll out an application form, and are subject to a background check. If you have an idea for a program, trip or special event, please feel free to contact Director of Recreation Thom Miller at Thom@MyCMPD com. We want your good ideas! The Downey Park Fieldhouse is available for certain small group family-type functions (baby showers, communions, preschool birthdays, etc.) of no more than 60 persons. Alcohol is prohibited. The Resident Fee is $200. Restrictions apply. Call the Memorial Park Recreation Ofce for complete information, (708) 862-6443. Most of our parks are neighborhood sites, and group picnics are prohibited. Permits are issued for Veterans Park, Memorial Park and Finneran Pool. The Resident Fee is $100. Restrictions apply. Call the Business Ofce at (708) 868-2530 for additional information. It is the goal of the Calumet Memorial Park Districts Recreation Department to provide safe and enjoyable recreation activities for all ages, regardless of age, race, creed, marital status, physical/mental limitations or gender. It is the intention of the Calumet Memorial Park District to develop, plan, implement and administer a comprehensive loss prevention program. Public and staff safety is our greatest responsibility, and in our assignments the health and safety of all are of the utmost consideration. This policy has been established to emphasize that effective loss prevention is an integral part of management procedures to fully utilize the CMPDs capital and personnel. Although prot is not a Park District goal perse, the same efciency is desired to ensure maximum usage of each tax dollar.

THINK SAFETY FIRST! If you nd a piece of broken equipment, please call (708) 868-2530 and let us know so we can correct any unsafe conditions. I When visiting a park, please use common courtesy for the other participants and area residents. I NO loitering, profanity or gang activity of any kind will be tolerated! I NO alcohol, glass, littering, reworks or golng allowed! I Pets MUST be leashed. Do not allow your pet into playgrounds, food areas, walking tracks or ball elds. Always clean up after your pet! I Driving unauthorized motorized vehicles through the parks is strictly prohibited. I All city, state and federal laws apply and will be enforced. Persons causing property damage will be prosecuted and made responsible for restitution. I Parks close at dusk, except for scheduled evening activities. I Failure to obey park rules could result in suspension from park property and programs.

The Park District takes pride in the beauty and safety of our parks. However, each year our efforts are marred by vandalism, which takes its toll through higher costs of maintenance, repair and clean-up. Residents who observe vandalism are asked to contact the Park District at (708) 868-2530, or to report it to the police. The Calumet Memorial Park District assumes no responsibility for personal injury or loss of personal property while participating or attending a CMPD-sponsored program or facility. No medical or accidental insurance is provided.

Each year, the Calumet Memorial Park District works with other intergovernmental groups to bring our residents the best recreational opportunities possible. We thank these groups.

The Burnham Greenway is a joint project between the Cook County Forest Preserve, the Chicago Park District, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Calumet Memorial Park District, to become part of the Illinois Grand Trail. Currently, the bike path is 2.5 miles long, beginning at State Street in the North and running South to 170th St. in Lansing. Please enjoy the Burnham Greenway this summer! Special Recreation Services


Special Recreation Services (SRS) is a collaborative effort by the New Hope Center, the Calumet Memorial, Dolton and lvanhoe Park Districts, the Thornton Recreation Department, and the South Holland Department of Parks & Recreation. This cooperative offers programs for children and adults with disabilities. Programs are offered on their own, while some are in conjunction with regular park programs. Payment plans are available. Lil Geniuses
This recreational program helps prepare children for the experiences of Kindergarten through study of the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, printing, motor skills and more! Drama Class
Children with a desire to perform can learn the basics of the theater and acting. Participants will take part in a live stage production later this year!

The Calumet Memorial Park District would love to assist in making your childs birthday a memorable one... so come and celebrate with the CMPD! We will provide ALL of the decorations, party accessories, and even the cake for your party. You can even choose a theme to make your party extra special! Celebrate your party at either the Sandridge Community Center or Memorial Park Fieldhouse. The gymnasiums will also be available to you and your guests. General Birthday Party $150 for 2 hours Themed Birthday Party $200 for 2 hours Parties are planned for 12 children. Each additional child is $5 each.
