Vertical Access LLC is a qualified small business that performs specialized inspection services using industrial rope access techniques. We are contracted by architects and engineers nationwide for hands-on inspections and testing where gaining access is a challenge on:

Our staff is well-versed in construction technologies, material science, structural engineering, architectural conservation and nondestructive testing. To collect accurate data in the field Vertical Access developed software for AutoCad called TPAS (Tablet PC Annotation System) which allows our technicians to input graphical and numerical conditions data and photos directly into CAD drawings while working at-height.

Scope of Work
Took core samples up to two feet long from highly fractured concrete for testing of concrete physical properties. Performed in situ carbonation testing of concrete.

Installed non-shrink grout at core sample locations following removal of cores. Gained access to pier below bridge deck with no closure or disturbance to vehicular traffic.
Assisted the engineer in the inspection and documentation of the concrete piers below the reach of the largest mechanical snooper or under bridge unit (UBU) available.
Performed nondestructive testing of the North abutment (side spillway) using groundpenetrating radar (GPR) to determine rebar size and spacing.

Designed mobile access truss cart to allow technicians and bridge inspectors to access difficult to reach areas. Provided training for clients employees on operation of inspection cart and safe access and rescue techniques.
Canadian Pacific Railway Bridge Niagara River Gorge, Niagara Falls, NY Client: FTL Design Engineering Studio
Scope of Work
Characterization of primary and secondary structural members. Direct measurement of bridge components. Drafting of scaled sections at each type of structural member. Investigation and documentation of conditions at each of the four points where the arched trusses are anchored to the ground.
Performed hands-on inspection of the highdensity polyethylene (HDPE) stay cable ducts and steel formwork tubes in the pylons. Deliverables included a letter of report, stay cable inspection forms, and photographs of survey conditions.

Scope of Work
Surveyed existing condition of steel members and weld connections. Provided live-feed video to project team. Measured superstructure elements to verify original construction drawings. Determined depth of corrosion at selected locations of corrosion pitting.
Inspected and characterized structural steel members and other components of the decks. Inspected and documented the condition of representative areas of the structural steel decks and concrete towers to for section loss and concrete deterioration. Identified and performed probes and probe repairs at concrete and steel.

Scope of Work
Member of a large team charged with documenting and understanding the flumes construction methods and details. Guided the engineering inspection of the remaining wooden brackets.
