Learning Objectives : Pupils will be taught to understand the relationship between unit of length Learning Outcomes : At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to convert unit of length from millimeters to centimeters, vice versa and compound units to a single units by using various activities and step by step method. Previous Knowledge Values Thinking Skills Materials / Resources : Cooperation, responsible : Identifying, calculate, relating. : Flash card, picture, step by step board, formula board, treasure hunts map, question paper, marker pen, blank paper, Worksheet paper, prizes. : Pupils have learned to state the relationship between centimetre and millimetre

Step / Duration Basic facts (1 min)

Content Centimetre (cm), millimetre (mm), meter (m), 1, 10, and 100.

Teaching & Learning Activities The teacher shows the number and words and asks the pupils to say it. AVA:

Remarks

Flash card, picture. Thinking skill:

Counting Exercises (1 min)

1 cm = ____mm 1 m = ____cm 10 mm = ____cm 100 cm = ____m

The teacher show the flash card and the pupils answer the question about metre, centimetre and millimetre.

Identifying, relating

Set Induction (5)

Teacher shows the picture of application of length.

1. Teacher show the pictures of daily life situation that involve, metre, centimetre and millimetre. Example: a) People run 100 meter in Olympics games.(m) b) The students height. (cm) c) The width on pencil. (mm)

Step 1

To introduce the

1. Teacher shows the basic formula:

AVA:

(15 min)

method of converting units of millimetre to centimetre and vice versa

1cm = 10 mm 10 mm = 1 cm 2. Teacher give examples: 2 cm = 20 mm 1cm = 10 mm 2 x 10 = 20 mm 300 mm = 30 cm 10 mm = 1 cm 300 10 = 30 cm 3. Show the simple formula of converting involve centimetre and millimetre:

Step 2 (10 minutes)

Converting compound units to single units involving metre, centimetre, and millimetre.

1. Teacher show the basic formula: 1m = 100 cm 100 cm = 1 m 2. Teacher give examples: 4 m = 400 cm 1m = 100 cm 4 x 100 = 400 cm 500 cm = 5 m 100 cm = 1 m 500 100 = 5 m 4. Show the simple formula of converting involve metre and centimetre:

3. Show the step by steps of converting compound

unit to single unit: a) Look at the unit we want to convert b) Look at the value at the question given. c) Convert the different unit to the unit that we want to convert. d) Add the same unit with the different unit that we have converted in (c). Example: 1 m 20 cm = ___________ (m) a) m b) m and cm c) 20 cm 100 = 0.2 m d) 1m + 0.2m = 1.2 m Step 3 (12 min) Group activity treasure hunt 1. Students divided to five groups. 2. A leader have been chosen 3. Each group will get a treasure hunt map. 4. Before they get the treasure, they will answer a few questions. 5. The leader will read the questions, the other members will write the answer at the treasure hunts map. AVA: Treasure hunts map, the paper question, marker pen, blank paper, prizes. Value: Cooperation, responsible Thinking skill:

6. Which group have finished the treasure hunts map; they will win and get the prize. Identifying, Calculate, relating

Example: 1. Convert 62 mm to cm? 2. Convert 8.4 cm to mm? 3. Convert 2 m 50 cm to m? 4. Convert 10 cm 3 mm to cm? 5. Convert 12 cm 4 mm to mm? Step 4 (10 min) Pair works converting the unit by using step by step solution. 1. Each pair will get a worksheet paper. 2. They need to answer the question by showing the step by step solution. AVA: Worksheet paper. Value:

3. After finish the task, they need to submit to the teacher. Cooperation, responsible Thinking skill: Identifying, Calculate, Relating Closure (6 min) Summarizing 1. The teacher will summarize the lesson in that day by asking each student what they have learnt. 2. The teacher gives worksheets to the pupils as their homework. AVA: Worksheet.
