General Comments
Having a coach helped during trainings as the coach is far more experienced than any of the seniors. He contributed much to the success of the teams during IHG. Both teams narrowly missed out qualifying for the semi-finals by losing to Temasek Hall and Sheares Hall by a scoreline of 3-2. Training separately allowed the coach to focus on improving every individuals skill level. An added bonus was that he hired assistant coaches and sparring partners to further improve the development of the players. The attendance submitted was based on the people who signed up at the start. According to the figures, it showed that the players did not attend trainings on a regular basis. However, this is not true as many people who signed up but were a no show due to various reasons did not come to me and inform me of their absence even after numerous reminders.

Recommendations for the future

It is highly recommended to ask for attendance early to prevent a situation where the coach comes for a training where attendance is mediocre. Coaching budgets should plan for the IHG days on top of regular trainings.

Annual General Meeting Report

Annual Report from Floorball (F) 2012/2013

Main Events for the AY12/13
Projects/Events CCA Fair General comments The response was good as there were many who signed up during the CCA Fair Their willingness to undergo the beep test reflected their genuine interest and desire to be in the team Problems encountered It was difficult to retain many of the interested parties who signed up We did not have a large enough turn out/talent pool for us to effectively select the team, as such everyone was accepted into the team, giving the impression that one did not have to work very hard to stay in the team and eventually leading to commitment issues. It was difficult to set a date during the vacation period as many had plans to go overseas for OCIP and personal family vacations As a result of the switch, our IHG matches were pushed to week -1 as the rest of the dates were already set for other sports. Our resident goalkeeper was also not able to make it back in time from SEP, and the new goalkeeper was not as dedicated towards trainings, as such resulting in many own goals conceded during the matches Having our matches very early in the semester was also detrimental to our team as many were 3 Continue with the personal skills and beep test for the selections as it will not only enable the future committee to identify experienced players with endurance, but also to sieve out those who genuinely want to be a part of the team Decide on the dates early in the semester before the majority book their personal vacations. Recommendations for the future

Floorball Trials/ Selections

Floorball Camp

It was very heartening that many players were willing to come back for the training camp on boxing day The IHG matches took on a change in format from carnival style to a limit of 2 games per day, as proposed and agreed by captains from all halls. This was beneficial as it ensured that players would not overtire from playing all 5 matches in a single day.

Inter Hall Games 12/13

Continue with the new format of limiting matches to 2 games per day but request for later dates as it will really benefit the team if we have more trainings just before IHG during the school term when everyone is back from vacation.

Annual General Meeting Report away during the vacation and hence there was little time for the team to build up chemistry between players

Value added from coaching It was evident that the technical skills of the girls who had been consistently coming for trainings improved with time as the coach was patient yet very meticulous in teaching the basics of the sport. As such, for the new AY, we will continue to work with our current coach to bring KE to greater heights.

Annual General Meeting Report

Annual Report from Floorball (M) 2012/2013

General Comments
The King Edward VII Hall Floorball Males team has come a long way to achieve its current standings in the IHG. The first breakthrough occurred in IHG 10/11 when we defeated Raffles Hall and entered the semi-finals for the first time in a while. The following year in IHG 11/12 we managed to get a coach (Filip Dahlgren) half way through the season in which provided more organized and structured trainings for our team. We defeated Raffles Hall again by a much more convincing margin and secured our semi-final placing for the 2nd time. In IHG 12/13, we were able to get a coach (Jin Quan) for the full season which allowed our players to develop better under his guidance and the team defeated Kent Ridge Hall to secure our semi-final placing for the 3rd time. We were also able to put up a strong fight against Eusoff Hall in the semi-finals and narrowly lost by 5-6 in the last 7 seconds. We also participated in the Singapore Floorball Association (SFA) Division 3 league for both this and last season in order to provide valuable match experience for our players.

Major Competitions
Our team participated in the SFA Division 3 league and achieved a ranking of 8th placing in which we managed to prevent relegation which is quite commendable considering that we are an amateur team made up of players who are very new to the sport and gaining exposure to it for the first time. We also participated in IHG 12/13 and achieved semi-final placing.

Problems encountered
The main problem for the team was the lack of mental strength and resilience. It is important to put in considerable effort to build the confidence and belief in the team that we are better than the other halls and can go far in the IHG. Also, the bonding within the team can be improved especially between the seniors and freshmen.

Recommendations for the future

Due to the schedule of the Division 3 competition being pushed back by a month, there will not be any matches for experience before the IHG. Thus, participation in the league may not serve the purpose of preparing for the IHG anymore. To compensate for this, more friendlies have to be arranged to allow players to gain sufficient match exposure.

Value added from coaching/external competitions

It is evident from the results that coaching did play a big part in providing a proper platform for our players to develop and build a stronger team to compete in the IHG. The coach (JQ) was very responsible in conducting the trainings and is definitely recommended that he should continue coaching the team. The participation in the league was also very beneficial to our players according to feedback. Some players highlighted that they were able to gain good match experience which allowed them to have better composure in the IHG as well as try different moves during the matches to find out what works best in the game.

Annual General Meeting Report

New improvements and initiatives

Apart from the usual coached training sessions, an extra training session for physical training was set aside to improve the physical fitness of the team to better prepare them for the IHG. Even though the attendance of the sessions was rather inconsistent, it was a good initiative to emphasise to the players that skills alone is insufficient. A possible improvement could be to collaborate with other related sports CCAs such as soccer or touch rugby where the fitness requirements are similar to have a combined fitness session so as to encourage better participation.

Acknowledgements
I would like to sincerely thank the SCRC and JCRC for supporting financially the coaching as well as league participation. I understand that it is quite a substantial amount and hopefully the effort and commitment that was put into training by all our players can justify the amount that was invested into us. In addition, we would also like to express our gratitude to all the supporters, including hall master and RFs, who came down to support our games. The support really gave us the strength to push harder and give our very best on court to fight for our hall.

Suggestion to extend training camp to include the male team as well. Female -Silver Male - Semi Finals Problems observed: Certain members were not mentally prepared.

Inter Hall Games

General Feedback/Recommendations
KE Squash team can consider separating training for team members and recreational members. This is such that training intensity can be adjusted according to the skills of individual members. Also, KE squash team should also consider holding more friendly matches with other halls for increased exposure. KE Squash Team would also like to thank Deis for taking time out of his schedule to train the team. Annual Report from Tennis (M & F) 2012/2013

General Comments The male and female tennis teams started off very differently. While the female tennis team retained almost all their members with many of them playing since young, the male tennis team started almost from scratch, with most of the players playing tennis for the first time but with raw talent evident. Based on a consensus by the existing players, it was believed that a coach was essential to nurture the raw talent of the male tennis team and point out mistakes of the female tennis team, who had experience and skill but did not know how to move on from there. The tennis team is deeply grateful to SCRC and JCRC for providing us with funding to allow us to hire a coach, Coach Wen Lin, resulting in a promising result during the AY12/13 Inter-Hall Games and more interest in tennis as a sport in hall. The tennis team sincerely hopes that continued support will be given to allow us to grow as a sport and a team. Main Events for the AY 12/13
Project/Event Participat ion Rate Moderate Comments Improvements to be made

Inter-Block Games

Participation was moderate as there was sufficient interest in tennis for teams to be formed easily. A round robin system was adopted to make the game fair. 3 males and 3 females represented each block, forming 3 doubles pairs; male, female and mixed. Each block matched up against another block with each pair playing against a pair of their own category. The first pair to reach 4 games won, with sudden death and tiebreak being played. Out of the three pairs from each block, a block won overall if at least two pairs won. The objectives of IBG were to garner interest in tennis and to find talents to join the tennis team and these were met. The entire tennis component of IBG took a long time. However, this was necessary 8

One problem was insufficient referees. Existing tennis members should have been rostered and briefed on how to umpire Many balls were also lost due to the inexperience of the players. While the sports committee reimbursed us, we could have been informed earlier so that a more accurate number of balls lost could be accounted for.

56th JCRC, King Edward VII Hall

Annual General Meeting Report to make the game fun and find an accurate winner. Taking up a longer time makes the game fairer and allows enough exposure; 6 people per block. There was significant increase in the interest in the tennis team, with more interest in the male tennis team than the female tennis team. Publicity for tennis was conducted mainly through IBG and the tennis captains persuading on-the-fence residents to try out the sport. Tennis camp was carried out during the December school holidays, allowing members to bond and intensely train for IHG, which took place a month after the camp. Participation was moderate as many members were medicine students and fourth year students who still had school on. While a packed schedule was planned for the tennis camp, the weather did not allow about half of the trainings from occurring, resulting in impromptu court trainings planned when the weather permitted. Participation was high as members understood the importance of trainings. Our coach was present for about two-thirds of our court trainings, especially nearing IHG. Coach adopted different trainings for both the male and female teams, using various drills. The training used on the female team was more on consistency and correction of strokes whereas the male teams training focused initially on skill and technique and teaching of the 9

High for males, Moderate for females

An exposure session could have been conducted before the CCA Fair to generate more interest in tennis and scout for talents.

Tennis Camp

Moderate

The weather forecast should be checked on an hourly basis so as to maximize court trainings, when the weather permits. Resistance trainings can be done in a sheltered area, which is easier to find.

Court Training

High

One problem faced was the too lack of funds. The tennis team felt that training was essential so coach came frequently for trainings and this resulted in a lot of the coaching fees coming from our pockets despite Coach charging greatly below market rate at $80 an hour. Tennis is an expensive sport, having to buy and maintain a racket and shoes. It would be greatly appreciated if the monetary burden could be

Annual General Meeting Report sport. This turned to consistency and correction of strokes as IHG neared. Trainings were also held when coach was not around, involving mainly rallying. This occurred at least once a week outside official training with coach. When nearing IHG, members trained almost everyday. Participation was high as members understood the importance of trainings. Resistance training involved a 5km run and two one-hour strength trainings every week. This was on top of court trainings. Tennis matches require good stamina and the objective of resistance training was to build up our stamina. This was reduced as we neared IHG, with court trainings replacing resistance trainings. Participation was good, even for the tennis members who were not scheduled to play. Despite hard work and much improvement, the male team lost in the round robin round. However, the female team managed to make it to the semi-final round before losing to 2-3, one of the ties lost due to a walkover because of an injury. While morale was low for the female team, Coach and the entire team were still proud of what we managed to achieve together. alleviated more. Coaching was also started late, resulting in less stellar results. Coach had 4 months to train us and correct mistakes made for years. Trainings with a Coach should be a continuous effort, all-year long and a long-term investment. With resistance trainings, tennis became a commitment-heavy CCA. To prepare members for this, they should be informed before they choose to join the CCA. Residents with passion could also be chosen over residents with purely raw talent.

Inter-Hall Games

High

Pep talks and debrief sessions are very important at the start and at the end of every match respectively so as to keep the morale of the team high. Members should be extra vigilant and careful during IHG period so as not to sustain any injuries and give any reason for a walkover to occur. While it might feel demoralizing to lose, to lose due to a walkover is depressing and heartwrenching.

Project/Event Participation Rate High Comments Improvements to be made

Inter-Hall Games

Participation was high, we managed to have at least 12 members per team, which ensured fresh legs on the field. Having a good turnout for trainings helped immensely as the teams were able to use what we practised in training effectively on the field.

There was a very low turnout for holiday trainings which caused progress to be hampered.

General Comments 1. Having a coach helped during trainings as the coach is far more experienced than any of the seniors. He contributed much to the success of the teams during IHG. Both teams improved by 1 place compared to the previous year: 4 th (F) and 5th (M). 2. Training with both M&F teams together allow a huge reduction in coaching fees, as the coach prefers to work with larger numbers and it also builds team spirit as everyone learns together. 3. It is highly recommended to ask for attendance early to prevent a situation where the coach comes for a training where attendance is mediocre. 4. Coaching budgets should plan for the IHG day on top of regular trainings, especially since IHG is a whole-day event.

Annual General Meeting Report

Annual Report from the Sports Management Committee 2012/2013

Review of the Years Past
It has been noted in time past that King Edward VII Hall is lacking a governing and administrative body that covers all hall-wide sporting events and CCAs. With this in mind, the Sports Management Committee was created with Mr. Zachary Low as the Head in this academic year with the intent of it being a mostly administrative, logistical and managerial committee set up to run activities and to support the sports CCAs. This is with the help of a small group of highly specialized, experienced and committed seniors in hall that helped to craft the structure, intents, purposes and outreaches of this Committee. With the help of these seniors and the addition of freshmen to the ranks, and under the supervision and cooperative support of the 56th JCRC and the SCRC, we have managed to create a Committee that has organized many events for the sporting scene in hall, including a hall-wide Laser Tag, the 2012 Inter-Block Games, and the traditional KE Slide.

Summary of Events
To summarize the young history of this CCA and the events it has helped to organize, we will briefly cover the purpose, contents, perceived results, and the subsequent feedback and recommendations for 4 events: Inter-Block Games, Laser Tag, Inter-Hall Games, and KE Slide. Major Events/Projects

Feedbacks/ Recommendations Purpose To serve as a platform for sports CCA captains to scout out potential players so that they can start recruitment early To allow freshmen to try out new sports, or to affirm their decision to join the aforementioned sports CCAs To promote block bonding Contents

Inter-Block Games

Annual General Meeting Report

Perceived Results With a proper CCA to organize the Inter-Block Games this year, the logistical and operational requirements were more easily met. The JCRC Sports Secretary was also less taxed in this case, with more time provided to focus on other sportsrelated issues like the allocation of training venues, and the liaising with the sports captains Organization and hierarchy was more streamlined, and an avenue for feedback, problem-solving and discussion was provided in the form of this CCA Feedback and Recommendations Not to place anything on a Friday night For more welfare Purpose To help to bond the Hall residents closer as one To provide Hall residents with an opportunity to let their hair down To aid in fostering a stronger sports culture in Hall, as we hope residents would learn from this event that sports can be more than we usually imagine. Laser Tag Contents Date: Week 10, 24th of October, 2012 (Wednesday) Playing areas: G Block, B Block and first level of the Administrative Block (inclusive of the covered walkways in between each blocks). Main organizers, Tag Team Inc. Pte Ltd 13

56th JCRC, King Edward VII Hall

Annual General Meeting Report Perceived Results Barely managed to get sufficient participants, play area reduced as such. Publicity was sufficient but ineffective. Possible lack of players due to timing.

Feedback and Recommendations NA Purpose As always, Inter-Hall Games are held every year between all 6 halls in NUS To boost intra and inter-hall bonding To provide hall sports CCAs with a goal to work towards during trainings To promote the sporting vibe and hype the atmosphere in the NUS Hall culture To promote pride in our Hall

Contents Inter-Hall Games As we were the vice-convening, the 56th JCRC Sports Secretary and the respective sports CCA leaders carried out all liaising between the halls. The SMC focused on publicity, designing of player jerseys, supporter shirts, and posters, with the help of KE Design, and also on welfare, sports team managers, and the getting of supporters down to support the various sports

Perceived Results Welfare in the form of 100 Plus drinks were given out. Supporters were pulled down to the respective venues to support and cheer. Flags and shirts were brought down and worn. Many CCAs reached new heights of achievement, such as the Squash Female team having reached the Finals in this years Inter-Hall Games

Feedback and Recommendations Drinks were well received. More supporters could have been brought down. Perhaps more focus on transport for both players and supporters. Shirt designs generally accepted. Purpose KE Slide To follow tradition and hold a KE slide down the slope from the MPC to the H Block Level 1. To end the academic year with a bang, by having fun with the KE Slide, and pizza later

Contents Date: 10th of May, 2012 (Friday)

14

56th JCRC, King Edward VII Hall

Annual General Meeting Report

Perceived Results Less participants than expected, but all had a great deal of fun. Minimal injuries sustained. Possible lack of participants due to timing (Friday night)

Feedback and Recommendations Helped to introduce creativity and uniqueness into hall More publicity could have been done

Recommendations for the Future A senior-junior link so that experience, expertise and knowledge can be passed down from senior to junior. Basically, 1-2 freshmen will be attached to every senior in the Committee More micro-managing and individual personal development, with freshmen being roped to help take charge from Inter-Block Games onwards More duties and dissemination of roles and responsibilities so that everyone has something to be in charge of, or to do More transparency within the Committee, where everybody knows everything happening or going to happen More feedback and recommendations collection by the heads
