Holy Fathers Prayer Intentions for September 2013

General Intention: Value of Silence. That people today, often overwhelmed by noise, may rediscover the value of silence and listen to the voice of God and their brothers and sisters. Missionary Intention: Persecuted Christians. That Christians suffering persecution in many parts of the world may by their witness be prophets of Christ's love.

Please keep in your prayers:

Loretta Patrick, Jack Munsinger, Jeanie Engebretson, Don Kuszmaul, Scotty Moore, Joyce Robinson, Jenny Eskildsen, John Jones, Michelle Dusek, Betty Opland, Ed LaFond, Kenny Ulrich, Gerry Williams, Sophia Crowder, Florence Schumaker, those from our local area serving in the military, and the Poor Souls in Purgatory.
Anyone who needs to have prayers said for someone can call: Madaline Itcaina at 654-2584; Jean Niebur at 654-2822; or Doris Nicholson at 654-2692. Names will be listed in the bulletin for one month unless specified.

Carpeting Replacement
The carpeting on the main floor of St. Marys church has served the parish well for 30 years, but is overdue for replacement. In preparation for replacement, a number of parishioners have been asked to assist in choosing new carpeting. Arts Furniture has given us an estimate of $9100 to replace all carpeting on the main floor, including the sanctuary and entrance. Any contributions to defray the expense of replacement will be greatly appreciated! UPDATE: The carpeting has arrived at Arts! Unfortunately, it may be some time before it can be installed. Its hoped that the work will be done by the First Sunday of Advent, December 1, 2013.

Pro-Life Messages
Some people say that the assertion, "Life begins at conception" is only a "religious belief." Yet the following quote is found in a book about how to perform abortions: "Conception is the only occasion in the whole course of events when something happens during a brief moment of time that is truly 'momentous'How different is the fetus ten minutes before parturition and ten minutes after; that is, different in a way that would affect its value?" (Second Trimester Abortion: Perspectives After a Decade of Experience, Berger et al., eds. p. 215).

(Received by Diocese as of August 31, 2013) Goal Malta/Whitewater: $23,789.36 Dodson: $3,920.51 Saco: $1,244.11 Remaining $12,191.36 $3,125.51 $1,009.11

Stewardship and Development

Stewardship Thought: In St. Lukes Gospel, Jesus provides the formula for true discipleship. Because Jesus comes first, walking in His footsteps may impact relationships with family and friends. Christian disciples must not be distracted from God, and need to keep in perspective earthly concerns and possessions. This idea is also embraced in todays passage from the Book of Wisdom. Good stewards realize that whatever they have is a gift from God. Discipleship requires sacrifice, and may entail persecution and suffering for Christs name. The cost of discipleship is high are we willing to pay the price?
Development Thought: If you have an IRA and are age 70 or older, you may donate any amount (up to $100,000) in 2013 tax-free, directly from your IRA, to qualifying charities, which includes our parish and our diocese. This is called the IRA Charitable Rollover. You may designate your donation to help the overall church, or you may select a particular ministry which is most meaningful to you. For more information or assistance in making a gift directly from your IRA, please contact the Office of Stewardship and Development at 800-332-9998, ext. 120.

Mass Intentions
As Catholics, we have a long tradition of having Masses celebrated for those we wish to offer up in prayer. The Mass is the ultimate form of prayer, and each Mass is celebrated for an intention. Please consider having Masses celebrated for family and friends on special occasions and anniversaries, as well as those who are in need of prayers. Masses are also encouraged in memory of those loved ones who have died, especially on the anniversaries of their deaths. Contact Fr. Cory for more information! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
