3. I spent the interlude taking care of my Father who died of bronchial carcinoma in November 1997.

The total forest area in the state of Kerala is 10,336 KM2 forming 26.6% of the total geographic area and per capita forest
area is 0.04 ha. The forests of Kerala lie on the Western slope of the Western Ghats at different altitudes rising up to 2,694
meters. The steep and often abrupt topography creates great special variations in climate and soil, resulting in high levels of
biodiversity and local endemism. The diverse physical environment of Kerala provides a diversity of habitat, each
supporting an assemblage of life forms with distinct biological values. The state possesses extensive areas of Tropical Rain
Forests (1937 sq. km.), Tropical Semi-Evergreen Forests (1,543 sq. km.) and Tropical Moist-deciduous Forests (4,100
sq.km.) and they are repositories of abundant and valuable biodiversity. Department of Forest is concerned about the entity
of the human beings in a global vision with respect to the entire area of Kerala. The existence of the human beings entirely
depends on the survival of each species in its habitat.

Forest Head Quarters is located at Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

The current overall strength of the Department is over 5000 employees.

JOB CONTENT

¾ Look after all aspects of protection of the allotted Section from theft and forest fire is the primary duty of a
Forester.

¾ The area of forester consists of both forest and non forest areas. The area of a Forester may be ranging from five to
thirty square Kilo Meters.

¾ To search for the animal articles, venison, trophy, specified plant, forest produce etc in baggage, vehicle, premises,
buildings etc.

¾ To arrest the accused and seize the articles with the vehicle, chain, rope

¾ To prevent and detect the offence and investigate if authorized

¾ To guarantee that there is no cultivation of Cannabis sativa, brewing of country liquor or encroachment

¾ To nab the accused with or without warrant of arrest, in the permitted, circumstances, produce them before the
honorable courts, seize the government materials and be the Government witness during trials

¾ Inspection of the following works viz. preparation of nursery, planting seedlings, manuring, thinning in the
appropriate cycles, final felling; contour trenching, gully plugging, surveying, preparation of surveyed sketches etc.

¾ Responsible to the general public and obligated to implement orders assigned by the superior officers

EXPERIENCE

¾ I have worked in the areas of Vazhachal Forest Division which is famous for the ever green forests and the
abundance of richness in biodiversity in Kerala. The tribal communities are found dwelled in the remote forest
areas.

¾ I have worked in the Central Nursery at Chettikkulam. Then, the Nursery provided seedlings to almost 1/3 of the
plantations in the Department. The root trainer containers are also used for the seedlings.

¾ I have also worked in Kuttampuzha Forest Range which is notorious in the state for the criminals engaged in
encroachment, timber theft, poaching and Cannabis sativa cultivation.

¾ In the areas of present duty, the general public is inhibited around the forest areas. Recently, I have also completed
final felling operation in a 1953 Teak Plantation (23.75 Ha) along with planting operation and post planting
activities. 1730 M3 timber and 80.85 MT fire wood were extracted from 10781 logs of 4980 trees including 4883
Teak (Tectona grandis).

¾ I have also led the team at several times to nab the culprits of various types of forest cases and they were taken
before the honorable Courts. I was included in the team for two times to destroy the Cannabis sativa in the remote
forest areas of Kerala

April 08, 2002.

¾ Forest Guards Training (36th Batch of Forest Guards) from Kerala Forest School, Arippa, Kerala from June 28,
