TERMS EXPLANATION

Expectorant - promoting or facilitating the secretion or expulsion of phlegm, mucus, or other matter from the respiratory tract. Carminative - a drug or agent that induces the expulsion of gas from the stomach or intestines. Choleretic - stimulating bile production by the liver (gallbladder, cholecyst); an agent that so acts. Cholagogue - promoting the discharge of bile from the system. Galactogogue - is a substance which is used to increase the production of milk in humans and other animals. Depurative - ability of a substance to decontaminate or purify. Stomachic - an agent that improves appetite and digestion. Diuretic - a substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine. Tonic - An agent, such as a medication, that restores or increases body tone; characterized by continuous tension . Ophthalmic - of, relating to, or situated near the eye; supplying or draining the eye or structures in the region of the eye.

Gout - Gout is a form of acute arthritis that causes severe pain and swelling in the joints. It most commonly affects the big toe, but may also affect the heel, ankle, hand, wrist, or elbow. It affects the spine often enough to be a factor in back pain. Gout usually comes on suddenly, goes away after 5-10 days, and can keep recurring. Gout is different from other forms of arthritis because it occurs when there are high levels of uric acid circulating in the blood, which can cause urate crystals to settle in the tissues of the joints. Febrifuge - an agent that acts to reduce a fever; an antipyretic. Vermifuge - any agent that expels the worms or intestinal animal parasites; an anthelmintic. Antipruritic - a substance that relieves or prevents itching.

Sedative - Having a soothing, calming, or tranquilizing effect; reducing or relieving anxiety, stress, irritability, or excitement
