STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The

only way to discover the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible. - Arthur Clarke The boundless possibility of trying out and the instant knowledge of the outcome that stimulates one for further analysis of a rationale in question is what I find most appealing about Science. To be competent and competitive I will require a Masters degree and it will give me the up-to-date tools and knowledge that are the need of the hour. In the foregoing paragraphs I have given a brief description of my academic background, objectives in pursuing graduate study and my career goals. In this Statement of Purpose, I intend to chart my road to the future along with my experiences from the past. The impulse and the challenge in problem solving and acquiring knowledge about new scientific concepts formed the most vital part of my schooling. Mathematics and Sciences formed core of my academic interests in school. My interest eventuated in securing 90% in 10th standard with 100% in Mathematics and Science subjects. This interest in Mathematics and Sciences always made engineering a fascinating target. I embarked a major step towards realizing my ambition by choosing mathematics, physics and chemistry as my core subjects in my 12th standard. Working diligently in my school, I received a thorough grounding in the core subjects. This interest coupled with hard work propelled me to score 96.4% in the 12 th Standard. By virtue of my performance in Engineering Entrance Examinations, I gained admission into Electronics and Communication Engineering at Ramachandra College of Engineering, a premier Engineering Institution in South India, affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. I am topper of my college having a percentage of 87.6 %. My intentness grew deeper when I took Electronics and Communications Engineering in my under graduation which encompassed the concepts of Electronic Circuits, Signals and Systems, Switching theory and Logic Design ,Digital Signal Processing, Communication Systems, Microprocessor, Linear Integrated Circuits and Applications, Telecommunications. Apart from this, as a Division of my Curriculum I have learned some Software and Management Subjects such as C, Java, Computer Organization, Managerial Economics and Financial Analysis, Management Science. I have good programming skills in C/C++, VHDL/Verilog, Multisim, and MATLAB. The knowledge on MATLAB helped me in conducting a one day hands on workshop named MATLAB workshop for all my juniors in the electrical, electronics and computer science fields as a part of Electronics Students Association for which I was the Event organizer then. Also by being an active member of HUNT (Home for Unlimited Novel Technologies), I have attended many technical meetings, symposiums conducted by it and also exhibited a Hobby project titled Luggage Security System using the concepts of electronic circuits. In my project work, I played the role of Team leader and Code developer for face recognition method using the 2D- Principal Component Analysis which is accurate, reliable and relatively faster than many other feature based techniques. This method is verified experimentally by taking database images such as ORL using MATLAB software. I have presented technical papers on Heart failure alert system using RFID at National Institute of Technology, warangal and also on 'Generations of Wireless Communication' at ELR Engineering College and won first prize.

The decision to pursue a Masters degree is not the one which I took in a month or two but the one for which I have been planning right from my 2nd year. By pursuing masters I am sure I can enhance my knowledge in the field and contribute my part to the field through my research. Research involves practical work and it can be quite interesting as well. Education system in America literally opens the whole world to us. The class dynamics, course structure, professors help is extraordinary. As my goal is to excel in the field of electronics ,I strongly felt US is probably a good choice because US universities provide outstanding research infrastructure and support students and active researchers with state and federal grants or grants sponsored by major companies. During these four years I developed a keen interest in electronics. My undergraduate education did help me in understanding my academic strengths and weaknesses. Projects I did as undergrad taught me how to implement known solutions. I feel that I still need to get more expertise in areas of theoretical formulation from first principles, proof of concept validation by modeling, and practical realization of solution. As a graduate student I want to achieve above mentioned by doing good graduate level courses, learning tools and techniques for simulation, and successfully implementing them in projects. My long term goal is to become a researcher who can independently formulate and solve problems. I do realize it takes great deal of efforts and good amount of dedication and I am willing to commit for long term by opting PhD option if given a chance. I strongly believe that Oklahoma State University is right place for me to realize my goals because of its strong research focus and different research groups I strongly believe I would gain a lot by working with OSU's highly qualified professors, this is the main reason behind seeking admission into your esteemed institution. In conclusion, I would like to add that the essence of University education lies in the synergetic relationship between the student and his department. University Professors were held in high esteem by my Professors and seniors. I feel that to be associated with University like yours for my Masters with these professors in their research would stand me in good stead for my research career. I strongly believe that under the guidance of your highly competent research oriented faculty, I would mould my career decisively for the better. I am aware that your university expects very high standards from its students, I am very confident that with my sincerity and dedication, I will be able to live up to the expectations of your faculty. Admission at your university could well be that golden foundation upon which the entire edifice of my career rests.
