Information
COSbatch is a network based batch job scheduling application. It is designed to simplify the
complex task of configuring and running a series of inter-related or individual jobs that make up
an organization’s daily batch processing loads, to distribute these jobs around the network easily
and to make the specification of job submission times straightforward.
Following are COSbatch's main features
• Network Based
COSbatch has been designed to for setting up a network-wide batch job schedule.
Jobs can be defined, submitted and controlled from a central point or from anywhere within
the COSbatch domain for execution on any of the nodes within the domain.
• Queues
Jobs are placed on a selectable queue where they remain until they are eligible for execution.
The queuing model within COSbatch is designed to simplify the assignment of characteristics
to any given job within the batch system.
Once appropriate default job characteristics have been set for each queue, a user simply
submits a job to the chosen queue and it automatically picks up the characteristics associated
with that queue.
The queuing model is also designed to allow simple separation of different areas of business
processing allowing ease of monitoring or management of those sections, e.g.
Housekeeping, Finance, Warehouse, Payroll etc
• Load Control
All jobs are submitted to run through logical Processors defined within COSbatch. These
processors have a number of characteristics to assist in reducing the use of system
resources. The maximum number of executing jobs allowed per processor can be defined
and this gives a simple means of load control on valuable CPU resources.
Processors can also be defined as being attached to a specific node in the COSbatch domain
thereby enabling jobs to be run on different nodes across the network.
• Built-in Security
COSbatch has security features which enable administrators to restrict user access to
COSbatch functions where appropriate.
Security and access control are based on the concepts of assignable capabilities and classes
of user. Capabilities can be specified for users, classes of user, job suites, queues and
processors, allowing security to be applied very specifically.
Users are grouped into classes to make security administration easy.
