Use this new semester as a fresh start for creating good piano practice habits. One tip is to make a schedule. Think about a school schedule. (Homeroom is 8:00-8:20. Science is 8:30-9:30. English is 9:40-10:40.) A 5 year old might have a piano practice schedule like this: 7:00-7:10 am Monday-Friday 9:00-9:10 am Saturday-Sunday A 10 year old's schedule may look like this: 4:00-4-30 pm Monday-Thursday 6:00-6:30 pm Friday 9:00-9:45 am Saturday-Sunday An adult student could have a schedule like this: M- 7:30-8:00 T- 10:00-11:00 W- 6:30-6:40 Th- 12:00-12:45 F,S,Su no practice... Flies to North Pole for non-stop work ;) Everyone has a different environment and situation. Find out what works for your family. I hope these newsletters bring you joy, inspiration, laughter and information. As always feel free to email, text or give me a call with any questions, or plain old confusion with this newsletter or any other aspect of the studio! Enjoy!

My First Piano

When I began piano lessons I lived in southeast Los Angeles in a small back house that shared a lot with two other homes. One was another small back house and the other was the main house, my Great-grandmother's house. Our dwelling, though appearing spacious to my 3-5 year old perspective, was small. There was a kitchen, a main room with a space for a small dining room table, and a small bedroom I shared with one of my sisters, my parents' room and a bathroom. T o get to the bathroom or my parents' room you had to walk through my room. My other sister had a room in my great-grandmother's house, which was also quite small. So, if you cant even fit all of your siblings in your house, where is there room for a piano? Here was our solution to that puzzle: It sat squeezed behind our dining table against the wall right next to my dad's "chair" (does every dad have "The Chair"?)
