Introduction Margaret Thatcher once said, Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end.

Its not a day when you lounge around doing nothing, its a day youve had everything to do and youve done it. The late former British Prime Minister, called the Iron Lady for her firm administrative decisions despite being a woman, must have detailed what a teacher does. She must have known how a teacher feels at the end of the day. Indeed, a great teacher must never fail with his arduous obligation to his fellow men and to render it at his best. Day to day, a teachers heart never retires of dealing with professional and personal problems. In the classroom, his students problems are also his and his words are their settlement and inspiration. Armed with an eloquent mind and kindled spirit, a teacher never gives up pushing his students to move forward. Outside the classroom, he is confronted by pile of papers to deal with over his table. But, not a word of exasperation, not even a sigh would come out of a noble teachers mouth; only words to encourage himself to look not at the present, but to look far beyond and consider that all his toils will fruit in time. With the complexity of the teaching world, a teacher must really become flexible and able to market himself in the need for fast phasing and immediate solution to problems in the field as they arise. He must not also be contented with his daily routine. In most instances, he must be a developer and a creator of opportunities for students to learn and further their skills as they explore the wider horizons everyday, another one for students to look forward to. All these things account for the life of a teacher, dedicated in his profession and passionate in his vocation. In the journey of the teachers in the English Department, they have reached remarkable milestones and accomplishments of their own that are not worth ignoring. They might have wielded differing craftsmanship in teaching. They may have dealt with differing challenges and problems. They may have differing but equally important skills and contributions. But, at the end of the day, they are indeed satisfied and well accomplished; throughout the year they had everything to do and they had done it. Student Development The very concern of any educational institution must lie upon the development of the students. It is said that they are the primary clienteles of the school. They are the direct consumers of anything a school can offer. Forged with a good quality of education, they can become the societys catalysts for change. The rest of the stakeholders of the school must be cognizant of this very significant potential of the youth.

The students of RNHS having been under their English teachers were offered an array of opportunities to better their skills especially in the field of language learning and language use. Yearly, some students are undergoing rigid training with their English teachers in the field of Journalism. Humility aside, RNHS is known as clinchers in the ranks for various categories in CDII Schools Press Conference. This year, the student journalists and their coaches bagged ____ medals for winning various ranks in various journalistic fields. For this reason, RNHS was hailed as the Over-all Champion. Hazel Joyce Cruz led the roster of school winners for landing on the 1st place in Feature Writing Category. Canela Gagarin and the Broadcasting Team both landed 2nd in the Copyreading and Headline Writing and Broadcasting and Scriptwriting Categories, respectively. Xaviera Labiano and Krysztal Villanueva both won the 4th place in Photojournalism and Editorial Writing categories, respectively. Julius Christian Graza won 8th place in Newswriting. Felmar Agunos landed 10th in Copyreading and Headline Writing. All these students proudly represented the Congressional District in the Division level held in Talavera Central School. Not only in writing, the students of RNHS under the training of their English teachers proved that they are also good in speaking and reading. In the CD II Speech Festival, the 2nd year students emerged as the champion in the Jazz Chant. Hazel Joyce Cruz, IV-P, also bagged the 1st place in the Oratorical Speech Contest. The 1st year student won the 4th prize in Readathon. Hazel Joyce Cruz and the Jazz Chanters advanced to the Division Speech Contest. Teacher Development There is no better tool or technology that can best cater quality education than the effective and efficient teacher himself. On the teachers shoulders lies the success of the delivery of education. He serves as guide on the students learning and carries out instruction as asked by the curriculum. In this light, it is indeed imperative that teachers must continuously enhance their skills and adapt strategies based on proven best practices. Adhering to promoting high quality education, teachers in the department are diligently improving themselves in trainings, seminars, and continuing professional education. Three teachers are currently enrolled in their Masters Degree. Mrs. Sahlee Cando is earning units in Master of Arts in Educational Management; Ms. Jesiel Mabasa is enrolled in Master of Arts in Teaching Major in English; and Mr. Mark Andrew Fernandez is taking up Master of Arts in English Major in Applied Linguistics. Ms. Jesiel Mabasa and Mr. Alvin Salvador attended a National Training in Journalism while Mr. Mark Andrew Fernandez attended a Seminar-Workshop in English in Asia. Mrs. Sahlee Cando also attended the Division Seminar on the implementation of SEC 2010. All teachers in the department were also present during In-Service Trainings and meetings. In fact, some of them even served as speakers in some local trainings. Mrs. Vilma Fagaragan and Mr. Mark Andrew Fernandez were commissioned in an In-Service Training to reinforce teachers language awareness. In the same training, Mr. Alvin

Salvador and Ms. Jesiel Mabasa were asked to echo the national seminar they attended. Curriculum Development The curriculum is the steering wheel of the teacher in carrying out instruction. It is his basis and his very reason of realizing pedagogy in and out the classroom. It is in which he anchors his strategies and principles in teaching as well as the program of his activities. Indeed, the craftsmanship of the teacher in designing activities and catering quality teaching is implied. It is then just for the teacher to creatively deliver and promote learning among students. To enhance the competency in teaching the language based on different curricula and their nuances, some teachers in the department attended trainings in the delivery of SEC 2010 for Third Year and K-12 for Grade 7. Armed with additional skills in catering quality education, the teachers in the department had delivered elaborated activities and interactive discussions with their students throughout the year. Role plays, simulations, film watching, among many others were only few which the students really enjoyed, hence improved their skills and language competencies. The teachers in the department have also been employing authentic assessment to ensure more objective way of evaluating students. In this case, they have been preparing rubrics for student products and performances. Physical Development A well-managed educational surrounding conveys positive mind, hence learning. Not only their minds but also the students attitudes are proven to be greatl y affected by a rich educational environment. Therefore, a friendly climate and a well-maintained school surrounding would likely produce top caliber graduates. In this quest to obtain a clean, friendly and educationally rich environment in the school, the teachers in the English department had been very participative and supportive in the schools efforts to at least maintain if not improve the superficial beauty of RNHS. The English department, just like any other departments in the school, maintains its park. The teachers were assigned on different areas of the park to look after throughout the school year. In their own respective ways, they were able to come up with a more beautiful English Park. Not only the English Park the teachers in the department did maintain but also their respective homerooms. English teachers who were also advisers exhausted all their artistry in decorating and improving their classrooms. Community Development The importance of the community as one stakeholder of the school must never be ignored. Not only being a benefactor in school activities, the community is also a recipient of all good that the endeavors of the school may bring about. The communitys benefaction in the school activities is an investment in which it is repaid by what the students may contribute to the society as they forge their skills in a conducive-to-

learning environment. Whatever the community offers the school, it creates a hitherto effect in which both parties are benefactors and recipients. As the community participates in any school activity that aims to provide the students a healthy learning environment where they can enhance their abilities and grow academically, the school can further promise the community a brighter future through a legion of responsible and resourceful citizensthe students. In December, the English Department led the celebration of the Education Week. The importance of the community had been underscored in the said affair. To promote the K-12 Program which received assailment and negative perception among the members of the community, and to further explain the benefits of this program, the department conducted an information drive-cum-seminar on the said government program. In the said event, the parents were invited in order for them to clear the cobwebs in their mind about K-12 and to deter further assailment on it. A fun run for education was also conducted to strengthen the ties between the school and other public and private sectors in the town. The fund that was raised in this school affair had been budgeted for the book and gift-giving activity which concluded this school years education week. In the book and gift-giving activity, each of the 23 pre-school pupils of Poblacion Norte Day Care Center received a book and gift. They also enjoyed the departmentsponsored Christmas Party in which they enjoyed a lot of games and activities. Truly, the tie-up between the school and community can make difference and can give education a better sense.
