SIMS endeavours to trigger the learning skills of every student through various innovative methodologies. One such endeavor is Trivia an important building block for the students as it helps accumulate knowledge on varied

topics. Trivia is the booster activity at the start of every day for about 15-30 minutes when quiz relating to topics of general knowledge and current affairs like capital, currencies, presidents and premiers, stock indices etc. are taken up by the students with utmost zeal, which has inculcated them to update facts and figures.

Unwinding is a part and partial of any management practice. We realized the need of unwinding for our students and arranged an outbound training to Kodaikanal. MBA

Students have assembled in the college campus at 5.30 am in the morning on 27.07.2013. Students with Faculty have started the journey at 6.30 am by our college bus and reached Kodaikanal by afternoon at 03.00pm at hotel Kodai Inn and had lunch. At 4.00 pm the

sight-seeing at Kodaikanal started off with visit to Kodaikanal Lake and enjoyed lake view by riding bicycle, followed by shopping in and around the lake and returned to the hotel after dinner. Next day the spots at Kodaikanal like suicide point, pillar rock, guna caves were visited by the team. The same day evening the team visited Palani temple and worshiped Lord Muruga and reached back safely. This Outbound training certainly rejuvenated our students and faculty team.

Sankara organized an Educational intra-cricket Institutions tournament

during the month of August 2013. 20 teams participated in this exciting event. ROYAL MBA represented by SIMS students won the cup in an emphatic manner.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATION
As many as five teams of students from SIMS participated in a National Business Quiz competition organized by National Institute of Personnel Management at Vivekanda Institute of Management Studies, Coimbatore on 17.08.2013.

INTERNSHIP AT BIG BAZAAR, COIMBATORE

Eight students of II MBA were selected for four days of internship at Big Bazaar (Townhall branch), Coimbatore from September 4th, 2013 to September 8th, 2013. The internship was basically a promotional activity of Big Bazaar's scheme "The Profit Club" membership card. Students of SIMS had actively and professionally undertaken the activity. Every student addressed an average of 50 customers per day and the team as a whole had made eight memberships for the profit club, which was highly appreciated by the team at Big Bazaar. The students found the internship a high learning platform availed by them. They had hands on exposure and knowledge on promotional strategies adopted by retail chain stores, customer supportive services, shelf management techniques, the benefits of schemes like profit club and their acceptance in the market.

On July 31, 2013 Sankara Institute of Management Science (SIMS), Coimbatore has observed Bhoomi Madha Day at the Sankara Campus. This program was planned to recognize, respect and remember our Mother Earth and also to ensure steps are taken by every human to enhance the deteriorating plight of earth. An awareness creation program was organized among the public of Coimbatore on the concept Save Earth when the students participated in a rally carrying placards on July 30, 2013 in front of Red Cross building, Coimbatore. On 31.07.13 the faculty and students observed the day from 10:10 a.m. to 10.40 a.m. As a mark of respect to earth, students and teachers were dressed in green, planted trees, and eco friendly note books were distributed to students. Moreover, power was off during that period and mobiles phones and laptops were also switched off. We will continue to celebrate this day in the future and we hope the entire country will observe Bhoomi Madha Day in the coming years.

As an act of generosity and care for the thousand people who starve for basic food, clothing and shelter in and around Coimbatore city, the team at SIMS proposed that every year 21st August will be observed as Donation Day. Donation day had a good acceptance and start this year when students, staff and management were asked donate their old clothes, accessories, shoes, mobiles etc. on or before 21st August, 2013. All items received generously were

donated to a reputed orphanage by the management. At SIMS, we care for our society and we will always strive to support the unfortunate people of our society.

Sankara Institute of Management Science, the management wing of Sankara Educational Institutions inaugurated its 13th batch of MBA on 26th August 2013.

Prof. Eashwar Krishna Iyer, Associate Professor and Director of Admissions, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai was the chief guest for the inaugural session. In his inaugural address, Prof. Iyer clearly chalked out 10 baby steps for B School entrants that will facilitate success to every management aspirant . Mr. T.P. Ramachandran, Secretary, Sankara Educational Institutions in his presidential

addressed that young management aspirants should be highly energetic and stand upto the expectations of the industry in todays

competitive world. Mr. Bharath Vasantharaman, Director,

Kalyan Ventures was the guest of honour who delivered the key note address. Mr. Bharath

brought out the essence of having more practical exposure for management students and expressed his own experiences of being an entrepreneur.

MOTIVATIONAL TALKS
HR specialist Mr. Y.E. Sridhar, HR-Manager, CTS addressed the management aspirants on 27.08.2013 by sharing his personal experiences of career

building and highlighted the fact that constant persuasion and passion for job will only lead to a successful career. Mr. Singhan Sathu, Chief Manager, Corporation Bank, Erode in his motivational address to the young aspirants on 29.08.2013 vividly pointed out how an MBA graduate has niche over the other graduates due to the practical learning system prevalent. Mr. Singhan pointed out that a recent survey indicated that 40% of Indias population is not

covered by banking services and hence he opined that opportunities and demand for banking professionals will be on the higher end and the students should rightly train and equip themselves to capture the same. A dynamic young entrepreneur Mr. Kunal Banthia,

Director, Evershine DynaCorp Ltd spoke of How to optimally use MBA on 29.08.2013. Mr. Kunal summarized by saying that one should increase his Emotional Quotient, be proactive and not reactive and learn one new thing every day to be unique and successful in this competitive journey of life. Industrial expert, Mr. K. Ravi, CFO, Roots Industries Ltd, Coimbatore on 29.08.2013 congratulated the students for having chosen management arena and also motivated them with few tips to achieve success at the end of two years both in career and life as a whole.

SELF MANAGEMENT
Mr. Bharath, Trainer, Career Cell organized a Self Management session for the I MBA The session "Motivation and Self Motivation" was of immense use to trigger the motivational aspects of development among the students and the importance of maintaining the motivation was registered in the minds of the students.

TREASURE HUNT
Treasure Hunt event was organized for First Year MBA students on 30.8.2013. This event was aimed at Team building and enhancing the analytical ability of the students. 12 Teams participated in Treasure Hunt Event. This event was coordinated by Prof.K.Thirugnana Sambanthan, Prof.R.Udhay Murthy and Prof.K.P.Radhika.

YOGA
Two-hour yoga session was organized for SIMS students on September 2, 2013, with an aim to help students to inculcate

physical fitness habits and methods to relieve ones mental stress.

ZUMBA DANCE
Healthy mind in a healthy body, as the saying goes SIMS ensures that every student is fit, fine and rejuvenated through various

activities like sports and fun activities. Zumba is one such activity which is a form of aerobic dance that stimulates the muscles and bones through music. Mr. Honey, freelance Zumba

Trainer had a storming zumba session for our MBA students on 3.9.2013. The students

showed sustained interest for about one hour and exhibited great zeal.
