WELCOME WEEK EVENT GUIDE

INTRODUCTION TO THE EVENT

Congratulations! Youre officially admitted to Politecnico di Milano! All you need to do now is plan your trip to Italy and take care of the last administrative requirements. In order to help you make the best out of your first week in Milano, we have organized a Welcome Week, in which we have concentrated all the things you should take care of upon your arrival. Taking part in the Welcome Week is the best way to be supported in carrying out all administrative procedures necessary to complete official enrollment at Politecnico di Milano, apply for a residence permit and complete the yearly study plan. It is a way to learn about important services each student can take advantage of during his/her exchange period and to get to know students, professors, facilities and the city of Milano in a friendly and informal way. The Welcome Week/Final Event foresees a number of leisure and sports activities, a happy hour and live concert; all new international students enrolling in any of the Politecnico di Milano campuses will be there, from exchange to MSc students. The students associations and student representatives have contributed to the organization of the Welcome Week, especially to the free time activities and final event.

CONFIRM YOULL BE HERE!

For organizational purposes, we kindly ask you to confirm your participation to the Welcome Week. Please notice that for specific activities the registration is compulsory. We will send you the link of the registration form as soon as it will be available.

HOW TO READ THE GUIDE

The present guide is divided into three sections. The first section is an i n t r o d u c t i o n t o t h e e v e n t . The second section concerns the l o c at i o n s : all useful information on how to reach the two campuses where the events of the week are taking place. In the third section called p r o g r a m m e you will find a daily schedule of all the events with a map and a description. Be sure to check the campus and the room you should reach every day. All events foresee the participation of students studying in both Milano Leonardo and Bovisa campuses without distinction, except on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday exchange students who will be studying in Milano Bovisa will spend the afternoon at Bovisa. On Tuesday and Friday exchange students who will be studying in Milano Leonardo and all double degree students will spend the day at Leonardo campus (more detailed information will be provided by e-mail by the StuDesk). As you will see, for some events there are cross references (with a bookmark shape) to informative boxes giving you an in-depth description of the event itself. For some of these events the registration is compulsory.

The historical trams are carriages on rails that date back to the 1920s and 1930s and represent a piece of the history and tradition of Milan. For their timeless beauty and appeal, they are considered true jewels of the ATM fleet. The internal furnishings of these carriages have been partly restored and will make you go back to the atmosphere of the 20s. An English speaking guide will also show you the most amazing historical sites of Milan you will see during the tour. Dont miss this opportunity to discover Milan from a definitely unusual perspective!

What a better way to get to know your new city than taking a relaxed walking tour? Students of Politecnico will guide you through the streets and squares of the historical centre, showing you all the main attractions (Duomo cathedral, Sforza Castle, Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, La Scala theatre) and at the same time revealing you less known places which are worth a visit. During the tour you will share your first impressions of Milano and have fun with your new University mates.

As a newcomer, you will probably undergo considerable change in a number of key areas of your life simultaneously. Functioning in uncertain or new situations requires much more time and energy than staying with whats familiar to us. In very new situations, our usual resources and support systems may be absent or maladapted, and new resources not yet identified. The accumulation of many changes over a relatively short period whether in the professional or personal areas of life leads to an accumulation of pressure, possibly triggering feelings of stress and even overwhelm. The stress decreases only gradually, as whatever is new becomes more familiar, and habitual levels of functionality slowly return. The aim of this event is to help you identify the tools you have at your disposal to face the difficulties and problems a new situation like this may bring to you, in a funny way and with people experiencing your same feelings.
