Ratmanida(2005) who conducted a model of teaching English through Task Based learning. She concluded that Task Based learning contributes a greater improvement on the method of teaching English including teaching Speaking. It offers greater opportunities for language exposure, spontaneously, and planned use of the language, and active participation of learners. Zainil (2005) in applying learning strategies, have found the effectiveness of using Task Based teaching and learning through the task types to improve the students and teachers language proficiency. Yeh (2003) in her article Telling the True: blending multimedia in a Task-based Activity(TBA) indicated that the main activity was the use of computer laboratory and internet accesses. She created the learning situation into meaningful activities such as asking the students at Taiwan University to have a chat with native speaker English through internet. She divided the activities into 3 phases: pre-online chat, during chat and post online chat. Her time allocation in these activities was 3 hours and 15 minutes more or less. As a result, the students oral communications by giving them flinty of opportunities to use English in an authentic manner were enhanced.
Lochana and Gitoshree (2006) in her article Task Based Teaching: Learning English without Tears indicated that a discussion on form used by the learners while doing tasks was found to be very fruitful. The text book was created into meaningful task which were introduced during the pre-Task stage and the learners were actively involved in working through them. Darmayenti(2004) found the effectiveness of using mingle technique in improving students speaking ability at the first year students of state Islamic Junior High School (MTsN) in Punggasan. She explored the different between teaching speaking through mingle technique and conventional one in improving student speaking ability. So the students can speak more fluently and communicatively. Moreover, simulation as one of the types of task can improve student speaking ability if it is used in learning and teaching English. For example Palioura(1996) in her article Using simulation to enhance oral competence showed the result of the effectiveness of using simulation to increase students oral competence. It is proved from the benefit of simulation. Based on the related finding above, the researcher sees that the application of Task Based Activity (TBA) in improving students motivation and speaking skill is not investigated yet.
