LESSON PLAN

Year: Date: Year 5 Monday 27th May 2013 Curriculum Area: Time Period: World Studies Period 3 (60 Minutes)

Specific Lesson Learning Goals Students will be able to: Discover a new piece of information about life on the Goldfields Write a paragraph of information about one of the topics for Life on The Goldfields

Students Prior Knowledge: Students have been conducting research on this topic for the previous few lessons. All of the students have had time on computers to conduct their research. Preparation: Student access to computers Students World Studies books

LESSON PLAN
Time: Start 5 Minutes 10 Minutes 30 Minutes 50 Minutes 55 Minutes 60 Minutes Lesson Progression Gather the students at their desks and ask for quiet and attention Let the students know that we are going to be looking at gold mining Ask the students what they have been researching recently in World Studies Ask the students to recap some of the topics they have been researching Explain to the students that they will be split into two groups today one will work on the computer the other at their desks Split the students into two groups use the Cup to select Group 1 (10 students) Let all of the students know they will be working with Red Pirate voices Dismiss Group 1 to the computers Explain to Group 2 that they will need to select one of the topics they have researched and start writing up the topic Ask Group 2 if they have any questions about what they are going to be doing Dismiss Group 2 to begin their writing Walk around the classroom listening to the students, giving advise and making corrections where necessary Ask the students for their attention Ask Group 1 to come and sit silently on the floor at the back of the classroom Ask Group 2 to move to the computers and begin working silently Ask each student in Group 1 to share something new that they learnt today while researching on the computers Explain to Group 1 that they will need to select one of the topics they have researched and start writing up the topic Ask Group 1 if they have any questions about what they are going to be doing Dismiss Group 1 to begin their writing Walk around the classroom listening to the students, giving advise and making corrections where necessary Ask Group 2 to come and sit silently on the floor at the back of the classroom Ask each student in Group 2 to share something new that they learnt today while researching on the computers Ask the students for their attention Ask all of the students to return to their desks, put away their world Studies books and sit quietly Ask all of the students to reflect on what they have learnt today Ask all of the students to get out their ICT books and USBs
