Instructions for PLC Simulator 8.0


To install PLC Simulator on your computer: 1. Uninstall any previous versions of PLC Simulator from the Control Panel of your computer. 2. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and display the files on the CD. 3. If you are running Windows Vista, do steps 3a and 3b below. Otherwise, proceed to step 4.. 3a. Double click on the msvbvm50.exe file to install msvbvm50.dll on your computer. 3b. If the Help file does not work after you run the PLC Simulator program, go to http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/917607 and click on http://go.micosoft.com/fwlink/? LinkID=82148 under the Introduction paragraph to download and run the files named Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu and Windows6.0KB917607-x86.msu. These will install WinHlp32 on your machine. Follow the instructions. If your computer says "wrong version", click on OK. 4. Double-click on the setup.exe file of the CD. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Keep any files newer than what are on the CD. To run PLC Simulator and get an overview: 1. Click on Start, click on Programs, click on the PLC Simulator group, then click on the PLC Simulator program. 2. Choose "File>Open File". 3. Change the directory to the Sample Programs folder of the CD (not available on Demo version). 4. Double click on Demo.plc to open the demo file. 5. Choose "View>Machine Layout" to see the machine being controlled. 6. Click on "Mode>Online" at the top of the screen to put the PLC into the Online mode. 7. Double click on the Start pushbutton on the Machine Layout screen to start the cylinder moving. Watch the cylinder push the part onto the conveyor so it can be spray painted. 8. Click on "Mode>Offline" to put the PLC back into the Offline mode. 9. View the I/O Connections screen by choosing "View>I/O Connections". 10. Experiment by changing the Main screen ladder logic, I/O Connections screen, and Machine Layout screen. Refer to the Help file if you need help. Now go through the Exercises sequentially as describe below. To view the Exercises: (not available on Demo version) 1. Launch your web browser, click on File>Open File, browse to the Book of Exercises on the PLC Simulator CD, then choose Table of Contents.html from the list. Go through the exercises sequentially starting with Introduction.html. (or) 2. Launch Microsoft Word, click on File>Open File, browse to the Book of Exercises on the PLC Simulator CD, double click on the Exercises in Work Format folder, then choose Table of Contents.doc from the list. Go through the exercises sequentially starting with Introduction.doc. Other programs on the CD: The Project1.exe program is a test program you can use to test the X10 modules if the PLC Simulator program cannot communicate with them.
