Raising up the Cross

Did you know you have something very powerful around your neck? Something that can even work miracles? If you wear a cross, you show that you are a Christian, and that you follow Jesus Christ. Yesterday, our Church celebrated a very holy day. We remembered the day long ago when St. Helen found the true cross. Thats rightthe same cross that our Lord was crucified on!
The cross is a very important symbol, and thats why God sometimes makes miracles to show it is so important and so powerful. Not too long ago, a man in Egypt had a daughter who was very sick. His family took the girl to all sorts of hospitals, but nobody could help. Then he decided to put a cross on her pillow, even though he was not Christian. A few days later, the man was holding his daughters hand. She lay in bed, because she was still very sick. All of a sudden, she got out of bed, and said, Dad, I am hungry. Bring me something to eat! After that, she was all better. The man knew that the cross had made his little daughter better. His whole family became Christian after that miracle!

St. Sophia was one of the best mothers, because she taught her three daughters, Faith, Hope, and Love, just that. She told them that the most important thing they could do was to love God. When the awful Roman authorities tried to tell the girls to worship idols, the girls wouldnt! They told them they would always follow Christ. The officials then killed the three girls, and they are now happy with Christ forever. Sophia is a very popular name now for little girls. Do you think you can remember St. Sophias story?
