Information about the class: This is a mixed level class of 3rd and 4th graders Ive been teaching for a year and a semester. Last year, students started out as absolute beginners and studied Welcome Starter B and Welcome 1 supplemented by worksheets, songs, storybooks and other materials. Due to this years school policy (all Spectrum schools must follow the same textbooks regardless of the students background) and the high number of hours per week (5) students from the 3rd study from Welcome 2 (approved by the Ministry of Education for 4th grade students) and 4th graders follow Welcome 3. However, this class is mixed level because of the two grades, but also because of the students background, abilities and previous experience with learning English. Some of the students have been in this class since Ive started teaching at Spectrum last year, whereas others have joined at the beginning of the school year or of this semester. The class has one Canadian native speaker, Ryan, who joined us a month and a half ago, who is in the third grade, but studies 4th grade materials. On the other end, Boban is one student who hasnt studied English at all until the beginning of this year when he came to Spectrum school. He, Halime and Naime take part in extra preparation classes once a week to catch up to their colleagues. Naime is a fourth grader who has experienced some difficulties with pronunciation(in Romanian as well as in English) and has been studying from the same material as the third graders (Welcome 2). Although there are two different grades in this class, 4th graders need to cover some of the material from Welcome 2, to be able to complete the Welcome 3 course, as they havent covered any of the content in the past. This is because, last year they studied from Welcome 1. Lately, the students from both grades have studied the past tense and vocabulary related to body parts and dinosaurs. Todays evaluation aims to test these, as well as the ability of the students to work on a project, in a team, and apply the vocabulary and structures they have studied in a meaningful context. Also, today, the students will practice self evaluation in the first part of the lesson. Main aims: To evaluate the acquisition of content learned in the previous unit To do self evaluation To work on a project in a team To build learners confidence and autonomy

Subsidiary aims: 1. Grammar: The past simple- affirmative, negative and interrogative form 2. Vocabulary: to name and write these animal body parts- both grades- sharp claws and teeth, bones, big wings and beak, large body and spiky tail, sharp horns 3. Writing: to write sentences using given information to describe a dinosaur- 4th grade

To answer Wh questions in the present and past tense and use given information to describe a dinosaur - 3rd grade Personal aims: To give short and clear instructions To monitor the project activity well

Materials (including source): photocopies of test 2b Welcome 2 Teachers Book- 3rd grade; photocopies of Grammar time 3 past tense quiz- 4th grade; handouts with Dinosaur Fact Files and Templates to colour; photocopies of marking scheme and project instructions; coloured pencils and markers; glue; coloured cardboard
