English Interactive Teaching Model which based upon Internet of Things

Abstract- With the development of Internet of Things,
especially for the research and development about futuristic
Internet of Things. The research of networking and acquiring
of knowledge are the important work which executed by
human beings. During the process of English teaching, the
research about English interactive teaching model which based
upon Internet of things is very important. Under the basis of
existed research production, the author has built a interactive
teaching model which based on Internet of things in this paper.
The effect of English teaching could be improved by means of
the research about English interactive teaching model which
based upon Internet of things.

I. INTRODUCTION
The concept of Interet of things is kind of Network
concept which the information exchanging and
communication between users have been extended to things.
The concrete defnition is that the information exchanging
and communicating can be realized by RFID, infrared
sensors, GPS, laser scanners, etc. and some promissor
protocols. Depending on Internet of things, anything could
be accessed and intelligent identity, orientation, tracking,
supervision are all realized eventually.
On the basis of computer Interet, Interet of things
could construct a bigger network which includes all kinds of
everything by means of RFIF and wireless data
communication technology. Depending on this network,
things could communicate each other without people's role.
The essence of Interet of things is the automatic recognition
of things and the information sharing by means of the RFID
technology.
The biggest difference between Interet of things and
Interet is that Interet of things could connect all kinds of
sensors directly without inputting any information fom
keyboard artifcially. Interet of things can acquire and
process information automatically. [1]
So we could introduce Interet of things system into
English teaching on the basis of the concept and
characteristics of Interet of things. The introduced visual
sensors and voice sensors can correct English learers' shape
of mouth and pronunciation by comparing with the standard
shape of mouth and pronunciation which included by
sofware. Here, the function of visual sensors are used to
acquire English learers' shape of mouth, and the fnction of
voice sensors are used to acquire learers' pronunciation.
II. SIX CHARACTERISTICS OF LEARNING INTERNET OF
THINGS LANGUAGE
Language is a kind of course whose reality is very strong;
students should spend lots of time in practicing everyday.
According to the scientifc computation, people who is
learing English needs about 2500 hours to practice, and he
maybe to be an average learer. If a college student wants to
reach the level by means of his four-year college learing, he
needs two hours to lear English at least. This means that he
needs fourteen hours every week and sixty one hours every
month. According to the latest college English teaching
program, the prescribed period fom grade one to grade four
is only 380. Tis means that the ratio of the time which
students spent in school preparation, school assigment and
class is 6.6: 1. And this could ft the request of teaching.
Usually, most colleges add the second classroom (such as
English comer, campus magazine or campus broadcast
English), and this can lead students to lear English in their
outside school hours. Students could get the best benefts
from the second classroom; they could have much more time
to practice English. Of course, the second classroom also has
some disadvantages, teachers can't supervise the individual
work of students efciently, and teachers also can't
guarantee that all the students will take part in the second
classroom. To those students who have taken part in the
second classroom, teachers can't let all the students get
benefts. In order to let students lear English consciously
and positively in their outside school hours, and let teachers
examine the students' progression of learing, we have tried
to introduce Interet of things into college English
teaching. [2]
Usually, Interet of things has the following
characteristics:

The basic motivation of introducing Interet of


things into teaching is that it could let students face
the living English to the highest degree and improve
students' English profciency as quickly as possible.

Interet of things can driven students to grasp


English as a kind of recreational and communicative
tool. And students are not confned to listen, write,
and review any more.

The thing which using Interet of things by means of


the grasped English knowledge itself could provide

enough strong inner motivation for students. In
China, Interet of things is just the beginning. To
most Chinese, it is still a new thing. Most students
are unwilling to lose the learing chance that has
relationship with Interet of things. They think that a
good job in fture has much to do with English
currently. Furthermore, with the development of
Interet of things, it will replace Interet one day.

Interet of things leave students is in an interational


language environment. Students fnd that most
information of Interet of things is using English.
They also fnd that they could use English to
communicate with the people of the world.

Almost all the contents of Interet of things are


taken on as a web page. Students choose their
interested items in spite of themselves. Furthermore,
all websites provide E-Mail, and welcome students
to ask questions or make suggestions for revision.

Interet of things could let teachers teach students


according to their aptitude. Teachers could choose
source material which ft for students. And students
also lear in accordance with their progression of
studies.[3]
III. SIX FUNCTIONS ABOUT INTERNET OF THINGS WHICH
USED IN ENGLISH TEACHING
A. Function of information's search and receiving
Interet of things used as a huge virtual library, students
use this kind of fnction, just like themselves search and
acquire information in real library. We asked our students to
lear to search the professional joural resources by means
of web services-based digital libraries.

This kind of function permits learer to provide some
information on their own initiative. And then this
information will be plastered on web page. Students' Blog
which written by English could be published on the Interet.
So students could intercommunicate and study each other.
C Function of inter communication on Internet
Students could intercommunicate by means of E-Mail
or Chat-room. Such as the students who are learing English
communicate with there Net fiend by means of E-Mail,
video chat or QQ, etc.[4]
D. Function of cor

oration and study
This fnction mainly refers to the corporation between
two long-distance students or classes. They can take part in
some English party by means of Interet of things. This
function is seldom used in current English teaching. The
communication between two classes may be happed in two
countries. They can create a web page together. The two
countries' students can study their own city's history,
geography, climate and environment. By this kind of
communication model, students could acquire more
knowledge which is out of the classroom.

In an initial stage, we could build QQ group which is in
terms of class. Usually, we ask students to use English when
they use QQ group except noticing important information.
The best beneft of QQ group is that learers of English
could lear English in an entertaining way.
F Function of learning English's environment which
accepted Interet of things
Now, there are many cyberauts in the college students
of China. According to the characteristics of modem students,
it's necessary to lead these cybernauts to combine learing
English with Interet. So the quality of English teaching
could be improved greatly.
The function of learing English's environment which
accepted Interet of things mainly includes the correction of
mouth's shape and the pronunciation correction. This can let
English learers acquire standard English learing.[5]
IV. INFORMATION ACQUISITION OF INTERACTION
TEACHING SYSTEM WHICH USED INTERNET OF THINGS
Every kind of language has its own shape of mouth, tone
and fequency. From the point of view of physiology and
physics, English standard shape of mouth and pronunciation
could be acquired by means of digital visual and recording.
Afer being processed digitally, the characteristics of
Standard English's shape of mouth and pronunciation could
be described by number. Then, we could develop the
corresponding sofware. So the sofware has the fnction of
Standard English's pronunciation and the demonstration of
mouth's shape. At the same time, the sofware could correct
and grade. Fig.1 shows some main parameters about
describing shape of mouth, such as open width of oral cavity,
open width of inner oral cavity, open width of out oral cavit,
pump-degree of face. By comparing these parameters, we
could develop the corresponding sofware, and the sofware
has the function of correction. [6]

Fig.2 shows the main technical parameters of English
pronunciation, such as voice's fequency, tone, amplitude

and speed. These parameters used as technical items when
acquiring English pronunciation.[7]

V. CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION PRINCIPLE OF
INTERACTION TEACHING SYSTEM WHICH BASED ON INTERNET
OF THINGS
Fig.3 shows the construction and operation principle of
interaction teaching system which based on Interet of things.
The Image sensors are used to acquire learers' mouth's
shape, and then compared with standard shape of mouth
which stored in system. The voice sensors are used to
analyze the fequency, tone and voice when learer
pronounce. The system also fxed learer PC, Control Center
of LAN, system Image and voice processing sofware. And
the connection between LAN and LAN realized by fber
optic link.

VI. IMPLEMENT OF INTERACTION TEACHING WHICH
BASED ON INTERNET OF THINGS
Before we use Interet of things to teach, we frst setup
an English interaction learing website which fts the need of
teaching.
A. Construction of Interet of things' website
The English teaching which used Interet of things
mainly consists of the following parts: courseware,
communication on line, English forum, introduction of
school, bulletin board, links and amusement. All these parts
are developed by ASP program, and the database is
ACCESS. Its functions are very strong. The courseware
provides some English courseware for students. [8]
We also built a test questions base which fts ordinary
college students. Now, we have developed the platform.
Teachers and students could choose test questions randomly
in accordance with their needs.
The courseware mainly consists of three parts:
registration system, login system and CAl teaching
courseware. The registration system could save some
information about students into ACCESS database. The
login system verif the users' account and password and
acquire their registration information (such as the real name,
department, class), and then be saved in another table. The

courseware of teaching mainly uploaded by teachers,
teachers and students could download them at any time.
B. Im
p
lement of Net teaching model
We have combined class teaching with open autonomic
learing, combined multimedia teaching with Net teaching.
Before the normal class, we ask students to prepare the
content. The students are asked to fnish the exercises in
accordance with the Interet of things courseware which
matches the teaching material. Diferent teachers distributed
in diferent level, they help students with their guidance and
answer by means of Internet. In class, teachers only aim at
the content which teachers and students ae all interested,
such as discussion and speech. So, teachers have more time
to train the students' language skills and abilities in class.
And the application ability of students has been improved
greatly.
VII. THE EXISTED QUESTIONS IN INTERNET OF THINGS AND
ITS MEASURES
Teaching of Interet of things has lots of advantages; it
realizes the man-to-man, many-for-one teaching. And it
doesn't need teach at the same time and place. Teachers
could improve the quality of teaching greatly. It is taken
more seriously by many college teachers. But, we also fnd
some questions when we use Interet of things.
A. Lacking the teaching consciousness of Internet of things
Interet of things has been gained acceptance by people
universally. But there are still many teachers are using
conventional teaching model. So, we should pay attention to
the learing of teachers' teaching theory, especially the
theory of Interet of things' teaching, the theory of Interet
of things course and teaching, the theory of Interet of
things' education and broadcasting. So, teacher could make
Interet of things better supplement teaching.
B. Lacking of learning initiative
Teachers should guide and supervise students during the
process of their learing. Students shouldn't take Autonomic
Learing as Free Learning. Teachers should tell students that
Autonomic Learing is a kind of learing model which is
supervised by teacher, and this is good for students. Students
should also realize that a successive learer always has a
strong self-management. Those successive learers not only
know the skills of bearing down all difculties in their
studies, but also choose proper processing method for their
concrete learning tasks. This is the real Autonomic Learing,
and the auxiliary teaching which used Interet of things
could bring results.
C Lacking of learing Internet of things' resources
The teaching of Interet of things needs rich and
colorful Net courseware. It not only needs teachers who are
engaged in English teaching to provide teaching material,
design, electronic teaching plan, etc, but also needs the
college to spend lots of money buying sofware and
hardware. With the development and application of
economic and net teaching, we believe that these questions
must be resolved quickly.
To sum up the above arguments, the teaching of Interet
of things' application will play an important role in English
teaching. By all teachers' joint efforts, the teaching of
Interet of things must form a strong power, and serve for
different levels' English teaching.
