Fourth Sunday After Pentecost

June 28, 2009

This is the mystery of the riches of divine grace for

sinners; for by a wonderful exchange our sins are
now not ours but Christ’s, and Christ’s righteousness
is not Christ’s but ours. — Martin Luther
We are missional Anglicans seeking the kingdom of God
in our hearts, our homes, our church and our world.

Sunday Mornings @ Good Shepherd

Worship 9:00
Hospitality 10:30
Discipleship Hour 11:00

VISITORS
We consider it a great privilege to worship the Lord Jesus Christ
with you today. In fact, we receive your presence as a gracious gift
from God. In return, we would love to bless you according to your
needs. Please let us know how we can do so.

PRAYER
If you would like personal prayer this morning for any reason,
please make your way to the hallway during communion. One of
our intercessors would be honored to pray with or for you.

3
As you enter the church, please prepare your heart for worship.
The Prelude
Ancient of Days
Blessing and honor, glory and power,
Be unto the Ancient of Days.
From every nation, all of creation
Bow before the Ancient of Days.
(Chorus)
Every tongue in heaven and earth
Shall declare your glory,
Every knee shall bow at your throne in worship;
You will be exalted, O God,
And your kingdom shall not pass away,
O Ancient of Days.
(Bridge)
Your kingdom shall reign over all the earth.
Sing unto the Ancient of Days!
For none can compare to your matchless worth.
Sing unto the Ancient of Days!
Come thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love
Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I'm come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart O take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
4
HOLY EUCHARIST

The Opening Acclamation

Celebrant: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
People: And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen.

The Songs of Praise

All Creatures of Our God and King Everything Cries Holy

All creatures of our God and King We see the Lord
Lift up your voice and with us sing And He is high upon the throne
O praise Him alleluia And His glory fills the heavens and
Thou burning sun with golden beam the earth
Thou silver moon with softer gleam One like a lamb
O praise Him, O praise Him Who was slain is on the throne
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia So I cast my crown before You
Thou rushing wind that are so strong And bow down to pray
Ye clouds that sail in heaven along For everything cries holy
O praise Him alleluia O everything cries holy
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice O everything cries holy, to You Lord
Ye lights of evening find a voice For everything cries holy
O praise Him, O praise Him O everything cries holy
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia O everything cries holy, to You Lord
Let all things their creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him, Alleluia
Praise, praise the Father, praise the
Son
And Praise the Spirit three in one
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
(repeat Alleluias)

5
The Collect of the Day
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us pray.
Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself
being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together
in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a
holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

6
The Nicene Creed (continued)
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Please be seated.

The Lesson: Philippians 1:1-11

Preacher: The Word of the Lord
People: Thanks be to God

The Sermon: The Longing

Come Fall On Us
The Mighty One the Lord
Calls to all the earth
From the rising of the sun
To the place it makes its bed
He calls His people and we will listen
He will not keep silent
Till we feel the fire again
(pre-chorus)
A thankful heart prepares the way for You my God
A thankful heart prepares the way for You my God
(chorus)
Come fall on us we fall on You
A thankful heart will be our rhythm
Come fall on us we fall on You
A thankful heart will be our song

The Leader and People pray responsively.

Father, we pray for your holy catholic Church;

That we all may be one.

Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you;
That your Name may be glorified by all people.

We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons;

That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world;
That there may be justice and peace on the earth.

Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake;

That our works may find favor in your sight.

Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble;

That they may be delivered from their distress.

Give to the departed eternal rest.

Let light perpetual shine upon them.

We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy;
May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others.

Silence

9
The Confession of Sin
And now, O Father, we pray to you also for our greatest need, the for-
giveness of our sins:

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;

in your compassion forgive us our sins,
known and unknown,
things done and left undone;
and so uphold us by your Spirit
that we may live and serve you in newness of life,
to the honor and glory of your Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Priest: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all good-
ness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal
life. Amen.

The Peace
Celebrant: May the peace of the Lord be always with you.
People: And also with you.

The Announcements
Promoting Good Shepherd @ Davidson’s Concert on the Green Series
During each of the remaining concerts held on the Davidson Green (the
grassy area in front of the library) we would like to distribute material pro-
moting our church. In order to do so, we need members willing to attend
the event, engage the crowd, and pass out flyers. We will meet at the
church at 5:30 p.m. on each of the nights listed below and then go together
to the concert for the purpose of interacting with those attending it. Please
prayerfully consider joining us. The dates are June 28th, July 4th, August
16th, September 13th, and September 27th.

Prayer and Worship Evening

On Wednesday, July 8th, at 7pm the music team will host another prayer and
worship evening to focus on the forthcoming Vacation With A Purpose.
Please make plans to join us.

New Sermon Series: Shining Like Stars in the World

Exploring Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, we are setting aside twenty-four
weeks for intentional Christian growth. Imitating Christ's humility. Breaking
with our sinful pasts. Pressing on toward heaven's goal. Doing all things
through Christ who gives us strength. Shining like stars in the world. These
themes will guide us through the summer and prepare us for the new sea-
son ahead. Come and see.

Discipleship Hour Hiatus

During the months of June, July and August, we will not have Discipleship
Hour from 11-Noon. Alternatively, please prayerfully consider how to use
this time.

Morning Prayer: Rite Two

Tuesdays. 9:30 a.m. Church sanctuary. Bring your Book of Common Prayer
(or use one of ours).

The Offertory

I Come With Joy

I come with joy to meet my Lord
Forgiven loved and free
In awe and wonder to recall
His life laid down for me
As Christ breaks bread and bids us share
Each proud division ends
The love that made us makes us one
And strangers now are friends
Together met together bound
By all that God has done
We'll go with joy to give the world
The love that makes us one

The Mystery of Our Faith

Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and
ever. Amen.

At this time, parents may return to the nursery to escort your children back to the
sanctuary for communion.

14
The Communion Hymns
Please be seated and sing.

There Is a Fountain
There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel's veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains;
Lose all their guilty stains,
Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.
The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he
Wash all my sins away.
Wash all my sins away,
Wash all my sins away.
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.
E'er since by faith I saw the stream,
Thy flowing wounds supply;
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die,
And shall be till I die.
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.
Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power,
Till all the ransomed church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more,
Be saved, to sin no more.
Till all the ransomed church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.

15
The Post-
Post-Communion Prayer
Please stand and say together.

Almighty and everliving God,

we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food
of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ;
and for assuring us in these holy mysteries
that we are living members of the Body of your Son,
and heirs of your eternal kingdom.
And now, Father, send us out
to do the work you have given us to do,
to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.
To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen
