Everything You Need
The absolute easiest way to get your new MSI Wind to
run OS X (10.5.6) as quickly as possible.
Here’s what you need to complete this tutorial.
Leopard Retail Disc (support Apple!)
MSI Wind U100 (duh)
MSIWindOSx86.iso
The Everything You Need Package
1 1GB stick of DDR2 667Mhz SODIMM
Tiny Phillips head screwdriver
USB Keyboard and Mouse
USB Jump Drive (to put driver files onto the Wind)
Install more RAM. Do this now, you’ll be happy later.

Update your BIOS to 1.09
1) Turn on your Wind, complete the Windows XP
installation, don’t worry, you’ll be rid of it soon enough; for now it
is a necessary evil.
2) Shutdown your Wind and take out the battery, plug in the
wall charger, restart.
3) Disconnect all peripherals and turn off Wifi and Bluetooth
if they’re on.
4) Navigate to the C Drive and create a new folder called
FLASH. Copy the files inside Item 1 to this folder.
5) lick the Start button, click Run... and type CMD and press
OK. This will launch a DOS-like command prompt in a
window. Type CD\ at the prompt to return to the core
directory and then type CD FLASH to change to the C:
\FLASH directory. Type RUNFLASH to execute the batch file
that will update your Bios. Wait patiently for the flash to
complete. Once done you will be back at the command prompt
in C:\FLASH. Type EXIT. If your keyboard is not working at
this stage don't panic, just shut down your computer using your
mouse or press your power button.
6) Shut down your machine and remove wall power for 20
seconds.
7) Reinstall your battery and reboot. Press DEL during the
MSI splash screen. Navigate to the BIOS information and

check to see if it is 1.09. Congratulations, you’re done this
updating your BIOS!
Install MSIWindOSx86
Go find a copy of MSIWindOSx86.iso from the usual places
one would find things like this. Burn a copy to a DVD-R like this:
1) Insert a blank disc.
2) Start Disk Utility.
3) From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select
the ISO to be burned.
4) In the list of volumes, you will now see an item
representing the ISO file. Select it.
5) Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.
After this is burned and inserted in your external USB
optical drive, restart your Wind and press and hold F11 at the
splash screen to select the optical drive for booting.
Remember to open Disk Utility and erase and reformat the
hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Also remember to select customize before installing and
uncheck kernel.

Install the Wifi Drivers.
Check your machine to see which wifi card is installed. You
can just look on the bottom and see if you have the Ralink or the
Realtek. You can also look at the sticker at the bottome left of the
keyboard. If it says 802.11 b/g/n you have the Ralink, otherwise
you have the Realtek. Install the appropriate driver, restart.
Now, I can only speak to the Ralink, as that is what I have,
but I’m sure the Realtek works similarly. The Wifi utility should
auto launch at startup, just select your network and type the
passkey. Then go into System Preferences and select Network.
Click the ethernet connection that shows the correct IP address.
Yes, I know it’s a wifi connection, but OS X will treat this as
another ethernet connection. Be glad it works and be prepared for
a little bugginess. You may have to restart the Wind or reselect the
network every once in a while to get your connection back. I’ve
had a minimal amount of trouble with mine.

Update to 10.5.6

You started with 10.5.4. Go to Software Update and update

to 10.5.6. If there is a newer version out when you try this and it
is untested, manually download the 10.5.6 update and install that
way for now. Be prepared with a USB mouse and keyboard
afterwards as the Wind’s will not work until we complete the next
step. After the restart, run Software Update again and again until
you’re up to date including the Safari update and the Quicktime
update.

Update your drivers.

Ok, so you’re now up to date, but your mouse and keyboard

probably don’t work. No sweat, open the msiWindDrivers.mpkg
in the Item 3 folder. Install this and be sure that the last 2 items
(Coolbook and ChameleonEFI) are left unchecked. Restart.
Now you’ve got your keyboard and mouse back, but your
video resolution is still off. Open the Item 4 folder and launch
Kext Helper. Drag the other 3 items from this folder
(AppleIntelGMA950.kext, LaptopDisplay.kext, and
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext) into the Kext Helper
window, type your user password and install. Restart again and
your resolution is 1024 x 600.

Install the Sound Drivers.
