Introduction There is a high chance of your encountering an out-of-control fire at least once in your life, so knowing how to use a fire extinguisher is an important skill to be able to resort to and knowing about fire control method and fire protection method. Most of fire extinguishers operate by excluding oxygen from the site of combustion. Fire Safety There are three (3) elements which can produce fire : 1. Fuel Any combustible materials solids, liquids, gases 2. Heat The energy necessary to increase the temperature of fuel to where sufficient vapours are given off for ignition to occurs. Oxygen The fire only need 16% of oxygen to occur. Tips For Fire Safety 1. Install Smoke Detectors - smoke detectors can alert you to a fire in your home in time for you to escape. - install detectors on every level of your home. - Test detectors every month and replace batteries once a year, or whenever a detector "chirps" to signal low battery power. 2. Plan Your Escape From Fire - sit down with your family and agree on an escape plan.

- decide on a meeting place outside where everyone will meet after they escape. - have your entire household practice your escape plan at least twice a year. 3. Cook Carefully - never leave cooking unattended. - keep cooking areas clear of combustibles materials. - wear clothes with short or tight-fitting sleeves when you cook. 4. Use Electricity Safely - if an electric appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it immediately. - replace any electrical cord that is cracked. - do not overload extension cords or run them under rugs. 5. Crawl Low Under Smoke - during a fire, smoke and poisonous gases rise with the heat. - the air is cleaner near the floor. - if you must escape through smoke, crawl on your hands and knees to the nearest exit. - keep your head 12 to 24 inches (30 to 60 cm) above the floor.

Objective i. ii. iii. iv. Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher. Knowing about fire control method. Knowing about fire protection method. Apply all the method in life for safety.

Demonstrate the proper and safety methods of deploying portable fire equipment. Demonstrate to include extinguishers/ hose reels, particularly on the different classes of real fires. Fire extinguisher

Classes of fire

Class A This is suitable for cloth, wood, rubber, paper, various plastics, and regular combustible fires. It is usually filled with 2 1/2 gallons (9.46 litres) of pressurized water. Class B This is suitable for grease, gasoline or an oil-based fire is usually filled with a dry chemical. Extinguishers smaller than 6lbs (2.72kg) are not recommended.

Class C This is suitable for electrical fires caused by appliances, tools, and other plugged in gear. It can contain either halon or CO2. Halon 1211 and 1301 is very expensive and depletes the ozone layer, but it is being replaced by non-depleting agents such as FM200. Note that halon is now illegal in numerous jurisdictions. Class D This is used for water-reactive metals such as burning magnesium and will be located in factories using such metals. It comes in the form of a powder that must cover the material to extinguish it. Class K This contains a special purpose wet chemical agent for use in kitchen fires and deep fryers to stop fires started by vegetable oils, animal fats, or other fats started in cooking appliances. How to use a fire extinguisher?

Pull the safety pin from the handle. The pin is located at the top of the fire
extinguisher. Once removed, it releases the locking mechanism, allowing you to discharge the extinguisher.

Aim the extinguisher nozzle or hose at the base of the fire. As explained,
this removes the source or fuel of the fire. Keep yourself low.

Squeeze the handle or lever slowly to discharge the agent. Letting go of

the handle will stop the discharge, so keep it held down.

Sweep side to side approximately 6in or 15cm over the fire until expended.
The sweeping motion helps to extinguish the fire. Stand several feet or meters back from the fire: fire extinguishers are manufactured for use from a distance. Hose reel

How to use a hose reels?

Connect the hose to the outside wall faucet by threading the brass hose nozzle counter-clockwise on the faucet. Turn on the water by twisting the faucet knob counter-clockwise. Open the cover on the hose reel by lifting straight up to pull out the end of the fire hose. Peel the hose from the reel as far as necessary to reach the desired length for spraying the hose. Turn the crank handle on the side of the hose reel counter-clockwise to retrieve the hose and coil it back on the spool inside the reel when finished watering the fire. Shut off the water to the hose by turning the faucet knob clockwise

Conclusion By knowing about fire control method and fire protection method, we can improve our knowledge about fire safety. There is a high chance of we encountering an out-of-control fire at least once in our life. All of this method we can apply if fire happen and we can save our self and others too.
