RENOVATION UPDATE
2013 marks 30 years of Tara @ 356 Garratt Lane. Plans are now underway for redeveloping Tara Theatre, for new generations of audiences and artists, with support coming from institutions as well as individual donors. The new Tara will provide a larger theatre, with individual seats for up to 100 people, a more relaxed foyer, a new patio garden and bar, as well as a separate workshop/meeting space. We will create a landmark new theatre for Earlsfield and London generally. We plan to set an example with the inclusion of effective renewable energy technologies and by improving our accessibility with the provision of a lift and disabled facilities. Support from the Arts Council and others has helped us secure 70% of the total 2.5million cost of renovations. Raising the remaining 30% will ensure building work begins next year. This exceptional scheme will safeguard the future of a well loved local theatre and provide a fantastic new landmark building for Earlsfield. Nick Cuff Chairman, Wandsworth Planning Committee

SPEAK OF ME AS I AM

DEVELOPED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ROYAL EXCHANGE THEATRE, MANCHESTER

TARA GUEST

A conversation with Ira Aldridge, Written by Maureen Lawrence, Performed by Wyllie Longmore

Actor and director Wyllie Longmore confronts Ira Aldridge, the black American tragedian who achieved great renown in England and Europe in the mid-19th century, who was subsequently written out of history and, for decades, remained largely forgotten. The two men talk, argue, try to understand each others lives, nearly two hundred years apart, and share their experiences as black actors in this country.

RABBITSKIN

Joe can name his twenty favourite authors straight off the top of his head and quote his favourite books perfectly. Hes a master storyteller like his father, a man who can make the ghosts and monsters of Irish legends seem as real as the rabbits he skins and cuts up on the kitchen table. But when Joe tries to tell his own story he finds it difficult to keep on track. All stories must come to an end eventually, but thats the bit that Joe doesnt want to tell. Dom Graces beautiful new play asks us to consider how easy it is for us to listen to other peoples stories, but how difficult it is to tell our own.

Stories of women living under the Iraqi occupation 3Fates with Tara Arts have been developing Return, and in summer 2012 completed a sellout showcase at The Yard Theatre in Hackney as part of the Theatre of Great Britain Festival. A girl with a camera returns home to a war zone. British/Iraqi Dina Mousawi brings her experience of her journey from Bradford to Baghdad to the stage to reveal radically different perspectives on a conflict that has dominated our headlines for the last 10 years. Exploring the role of women in war and in rebuilding a nation, pushing the boundaries of political theatre: Return is a personal response about the female experience of war and occupation. Written by a fearless creative team, the show is an innovative collision of compelling poetic images and verbatim text from filmed interviews, emails, video diaries and Facebook entries.
