Abstract : In t he st udies on t he origin of t he Aust ronesian family , t he praxis of linguistics

has been mainly limited to t he dist ribution of t he present Aust ronesian et hnic groups , while t he ancient Baiyue , an important Aust ronesian cult ure in ancient sout hern China has been ignored. A recent archeological research even identified t he original Aust ronesian cult ures wit h t he Dabenkeng cult ure and t he Fuguodun pattern in t he early New Stone Age , which are found in Fujian and Taiwan. This disagrees wit h t he integrative st ruct ure of Baiyue and Aust ronesian cult ures. And it also disagrees wit h t he oneness of t he archeological cult ures found in China s sout heastern coast s , Sout heast Asia and t he Pacific Archipelago. The statement t hat t he Tanshishan cult ure , an archeological cult ure in t he late New Stone Age found in China s sout heast coast , stands for t he end of t he Aust ronesian cult ures and t he beginning of t he Sino2 Tibentan cult ures obviously disconnect s t he continuity of t he development of t he ancient et hnic cult ures.

Wencheng can give us more details about t he military officer system in t he Court Garrison in t he Nort hern Wei Dynast y. This paper , in line wit h t he historical record , discusses t he et hnic composition and clan origin of t he officers in t he Garrison. As t he record shows , t he government in t he early period of t he Nort hern Wei Dynasty was characterized wit h a rich et hnic composition and t hus had a wide social foundation.

Western Xia , located near t he capital town of t he dynasty. This monastery probably relates to t he relics of t he Gaotai Monastery in t he out skirt s of Yinchuan , t he Capital City of t he present Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In t he reign of Emperor Renzong of t he Western Xia , bot h Han s Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism were practiced in t he monastery , wit h t he Tangut and Tibetan guoshi ( state masters ) coexisting. And t his may be regarded as an epitome of t he Buddhist development in t he Western Xia in t he late twelft h cent ury.

illegitimate government carried out t he policy of Mongol land presentationin nort heast China. The policy aimed at t he deprivation of t he ownership of t he land t hat used to belong to t he princes of t he nort heast Mongol. After acquiring huge economic benefit f rom t he policy , t he illegitimate government adopted t he policy of appeasement and granted various kinds of preferential t reat ment to t he Mongol princes. At t he same time , some consideration was given to t he interest s of t he common Mongol people. For one t hing , two organizations , t he Houshenghui and Yushenghui , were established for t he purpose.
