MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE Introduction According to The Longman Dictionary teaching can be defined as an assignment activity which is systematically planned, organized, implemented and assessed by the teacher, who in the process of teaching, applied suitable teaching method and technique to guide, encourage and motivate student to take their own initiative to learn so as to achieve the learning objective set. It is often said that teachers are born but it is the rare individual who can work with the students. Therefore a teacher is a professional who has an ability to make decision quickly and precisely. The teacher has many kinds of relationships with pupils, colleagues, supervisors and parents. There will be days when everything goes smoothly and days when one emergency arises after another. First, I didnt understand what burn out, distress and lack of concentration meant. Then a few years later, I started to feel the burden . I had to attend courses which were not relevant to me . I also had to replace the old teacher who could not go outstation during the school holidays since I was still single. It seemed to me that as a single person I did not have any responsible to anybody! However that did not deter me from going to class and teach the pupils eagerly. Second, I realized along the way I had to play by the rules. The most important thing was my lesson plan which meant I had to prepare my teaching clearly. Otherwise I would not know what I was doing in the class. Another important aspect was disciplining the students according to the society needs. I expected the students to listen to me and did everything I said. It was easy because during that time good discipline meant punishment. Modern methods or what we call psychology, students nowadays cannot even be touched ! Otherwise your mistake of caning a student will be spread by the media and judged by all Malaysian ! You will feel like a reality show star. So far I am lucky because I know my limit and am very passion with my students. From my experience I learned to respect them before I expect the students to respect me.

Finally, my teaching experience revolve around three types of teachers that I found. The first one is the person who likes to teach the same thing without changing anything . For example, he didnt like new teaching techniques. His responded, I have been teaching like this for years and students understand, why should I change now ? The second type is a person who always objected to any changes but does not give any suggestion to modify it. For example , he didnt agree that pupils should not be caned. He will say, Since I cannot cane it is better to let the students do whatever they like . Lastly a teacher who likes changes and modify them to suit the students. I am glad that I belong to this group after so many things evolved throughout my teaching career. Conclusion As a conclusion, being a teacher is not about teaching students just to pass the exam but also helping them to achieve their goals and talent. It is also make me realize my potential and at the same time proud of my achievement. I find my teaching experience has somehow helped me to become who I am today. Thank you
