Incumbent government is attempting to introduce a Casino Economy to the country. This will lead to the creation of a gun culture; consisting of prostitution, alcoholism, drugs and immorality said by by Hon. Karu Jayasuriya UNP M.P. On 18th September 2013 at media conference See Brief Notes on the Press Conference below We are having this press conference two days prior to the Provincial Council Elections for Northern, North Western and Central Provinces. Approximately four years have elapsed from the conclusion of the civil war. I too sacrificed politically for the war victory. People of this country expect to live with dignity in a civilized society. The forces sacrificed their lives to realize this expectation. Not to protect one individual or family. People need an honourable peace. Unity and trust among races. Physical and mental peace and the freedom of thought. Freedom of expression. There is no unity among races. There are conflicts between religions. There are no friendly relations with the international community. The government cannot get away from the responsibility by pointing an accusing finger at the opposition. The President has stated recently that conducting an election in the Northern Province is his victory.

In the meantime Minister Basil Rajapakse says that there is no Northern Spring hereafter. The government is trying to say that we have given an election to the Northern Province, but be wary what will happen to you if you vote the Tamil National Alliance in to power. We wish to ask the government whether changing public opinion by using political might is the so called five star democracy? Same political might is being applied in the Central and North Western Provinces. The government gave an election to the Northern Province to deceive the international community, not to give an opportunity to the people of the North who suffered from a war for almost three decades, to elect their representatives democratically. Elections are held in other provinces prior to the due dates in order to establish political power at national level not for any other reason. Also the main party of the alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Party is striving to show that they are very strong. The policies introduced by Mr. S.W.R.D. Bandaranayake at the inception of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 1956, no longer exist in the party. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party, which criticized the economic policies of the United National Party, has adopted the same policies in the guise of Humane Economic Policies. Incumbent government is attempting to introduce a Casino Economy to the country. This will lead to the creation of a gun culture; consisting of prostitution, alcoholism, drugs and immorality. Mr. Bandaranayake banned horse racing in the country. Present leaders of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party established by him are introducing a Casino economy and welcomes Casino Kings to the country. Minister Patali Champika had stated recently that if these things are allowed to happen in this manner, members of the Cabinet will be decided by the Casino owners. We are glad that Minister Patali Champika has the courage to say this, having seen the danger in advance. There is no Pancha Maha Balavegaya in the S.L.F.P. Instead there are money launderers, racketeers and thugs. Instead of establishing the Sri Lankan Nation in post war Sri Lanka, the government is propagating dissension among the races and religions. Hence Sri Lanka Freedom Party is declining; it is not strong any longer. Even at present United National Party protects the policies of Hon. D.S. Senanayake. United National Party stands to promote a Sri Lankan nation. We protect the identity and honour of all races and religions. We cannot develop this country by treating Tamils and Muslims as enemies. We as a party did not change our economic policies. Best management skills to develop this country are with United National Party. Therefore I wish to make a request. Defeat the United Peoples Freedom Alliance including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party at the Provincial Council Elections as a first step to establish a county where the resources of the country are not enjoyed by a limited number of people, but all will live united by respecting each other and democracy reigns supreme. Bring victory to the United National Party.
