Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization providing services to governments and migrants in the field of migration. With 146 member states and offices in more than 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. IOM is an active partner in the Global Shelter Cluster, and has extensive experience in field-level shelter operations. During 2013, IOM further consolidated its role as a key player in Shelter Cluster activities by providing shelter assistance to a wide variety of persons affected by displacement in a number of diverse contexts. At the country level, IOM currently leads the Shelter Cluster in Ethiopia, Haiti, South Sudan, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea, and co-leads or implements shelter activities as a partner in a number of additional countries. The Shelter Support Intern will work within IOMs Preparedness and Response Division (PRD), under the overall supervision of the Head of PRD, and under the direct supervision of the Global CCCM Cluster Coordinator, who also supports IOMs Shelter Cluster involvement at the global level. Specific duties and responsibilities will include the following tasks: 1. Support the consolidation of IOMs role in the Shelter Cluster, and contribute to the development of a comprehensive vision and strategy for IOMs shelterrelated activities. 2. Participate in meetings of the Shelter Cluster, Shelter and Settlements Working Groups, and other relevant bodies at the global level. 3. Support the development of best practices and lessons learnt, and assist in defining platforms for the comparison of experiences and contributions to policy and strategic thinking. 4. Assist in the development of humanitarian strategies for shelter and relevant guidance for IOM and partners. 5. Support the capturing, storing and sharing of humanitarian knowledge; manage and analyse information received from IOMs field offices.

6. Generate a number of shelter and Disaster Risk Reduction relevant documents for IOMs field offices and partners. 7. Perform such duties as may be assigned by the direct supervisor or Head of PRD.

Required qualifications and competencies Advanced degree in a field of study that offers a comprehensive view of community organization, planning and design (e.g. architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning or a related field) and/or social sciences (e.g. humanitarian affairs, development studies, political science, or a related field), or the equivalent combination of professional experience in a related area. Strong and demonstrable interest in migration and/or humanitarian issues.

Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written); knowledge of other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Arabic) is an asset. Solid analytical and drafting skills.
