Works of art from the Meiji period also achieved strong prices due to active international participation across the board, from France to China to Mexico.” Heakyum Kim, Senior Specialist, Korean Art, added: “The sale was led by two exquisite Korean works of art, with the top lot, a unique blue and white porcelain jar with tigers, achieving over fifteen times its presale estimate. Modern and Contemporary Korean works of art also figure prominently among the top lots, with artists such as Kim Whanki, Kim Sou, and Kang Ik-Joong all performing well.” Please find the Top Ten attached. FINE CHINESE PAINTINGS Total: $10,474,500 /£6,494,190 /€7,751,130 Top Lot: Lot 904 | Shen Zhou, Mountains In Autumn, scroll, mounted and framed, ink and color on paper | Price realized: $1,803,750 Elizabeth Hammer, Specialist of Chinese Paintings, said: “All top ten lots came from private collections in the US and featured a range of paintings that were well- studied and researched. The combination of private collections and attractive price points drew strong interest, resulting in numerous works that sold over their high estimates. The results reflect the ongoing strength of the Chinese paintings market across both the classical and modern categories.” Please find the Top Ten attached. INDIAN AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN ART Total: $9,220,750 /£5,716,865 /€6,823,355 Top Lot: Lot 224 | A Large And Important Bronze Figure Of Parvati, South India, Chola Period, circa 1100 | Price Realized: $963,750 Hugo Weihe, International Director, International Specialist, Head of Indian and Southeast Asian Art, commented: “This autumn sale showed continued strength in Himalayan, Gandharan, and Indian art specifically of the Pala and Chola periods. In addition, the robust market for Buddhist art is underscored by new collectors actively bidding from China.” Sandhya Jain-Patel, Specialist Head of Sale of Indian and Southeast Asian Art, New York, added: “The interest in the classical field was apparent in the packed James Christie auction room and with bids coming from all over the world, signifying the market’s passion for this category year round.” Please find the Top Ten attached.
