The St. Vincent De Paul Society members are requesting St. Albert parishioners to extend their benevolent contributions in the form of non-perishable food donations, in order to assist residents who are experiencing significant financial difficulties during this period of their lives. Food items can be placed in the wooden receptacle boxes in the vestibule of the church or monetary contributions can be placed in the Poor Box. Your support in assisting those in need throughout the ear is valued.

(Matthew 25:34,40) PRIORITIES In the first reading, the prophet Amos rages against all those whose greed is so great that they would close their eyes and hearts to the needs of the poor among them. To make a buck is one thing, Amos is saying. To make it on the backs of the helpless is quite another. In the second reading, Paul reminds us of our charge and duty to pray. He issues a call to more expansive prayer prayer that should mark the daily life of Christians. In the Gospel, Jesus describes the wholehearted effort of a crafty servant who sees downsizing heading his way. Jesus finds him a marvel and puzzles over why such cleverness is limited to the world of commerce. Jesus wonders why those who seek a position in the reign of God lack such wit and wherewithal. STATEMENT REGARDING THE STATUS OF REV. ROBERT A. STEPEK, A PRIEST OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO WHO WAS ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING MINORS.

After the Archdiocesan review of the allegations against Fr. Stepek had been completed, the Holy See directed that the case be sent to a canonical court. Upon completion of two lengthy canonical trails, the court was unable to find evidence strong enough to merit a judgment that Fr. Stepek had sexually abused a minor. Fr. Stepek is therefore a priest in good canonical standing in the Church. In the course of the investigations for the trails, however, the court also found that Fr. Stepek had engaged in behaviors inappropriate for a priest. Fr. Stepek therefore will not have a ministerial assignment and his faculties to minister are restricted. Fr. Stepek has requested to retire from active ministry for health and family reasons, and Cardinal George has granted him early retirement.
