Personal Statement:

My main career aspiration is to become a professional engineer and change the world. As an engineering, I am looking to change the world by help solve some of the challenges that we will face in the 21st century. I will prepare to face these challenges at the University of Rhode Island. At the University of Rhode Island, I will inquire the necessary tools to challenge any problem that might come in my path. I was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. I came into this country when I was eleven years old and ever since, I've been a resident in the state of Rhode Island. Growing up in a Spanish-Speaking household, I was able to get the full experience of what a Spanish culture is like. Growing up in this country also gave me the opportunity to get an excellent educational opportunity, something that was rare to find back in Colombia. My parents made a great amount of efforts and sacrificed their entire lives to give me an opportunity to succeed in life. They darkened their path so that my path could be much brighter than theirs: I will not disappoint them. I am currently studying Civil Engineering & Spanish at the University of Rhode Island. The main reason why I want to become an engineer while also becoming fluent in another language is because of two main reasons: First, I want to become an engineer because Ive always had a huge interest in the field of science and mathematics. From a very early age, Ive expressed an interest in those two fields, and that interest only grew stronger concomitantly as I got older, and more exposed to it. By the time I began high school, I knew that engineering path was the path for me; the path that would lead me to success. Second, the reason why I wanted to also major in Spanish is because I have a tremendous appreciation for my language, my background, and I want to maximize this appreciation for my language as much as possible, meanwhile making myself much more marketable. The Spanish language has grown exponentially over the last ten years, and I believe that the language will only continue to grow over the next ten years, and I believe that being bilingual is a essential skill to have in order to succeed in the future economy. The demand for engineers has also increased dramatically over the last ten years, and as technology advances, so will the demand for engineers as well. Engineers are needed in all different sorts of companies, and I think engineers are going to be essential soldiers in the battle against global warming and fossil energy consumption. Fossil energy, has been, and will continue to be, an essential necessity to the world. Fossil energy has a tremendously huge impact on the world's economy, its infrastructure and future development. The whole concept of fossil energy is a challenge to all of us, and as an engineer, we crave challenges; but more importantly, we thrive for the solution to these challenges. I want to become a dedicated, disciplined and successful individual. I want to fully maximize my abilities to the furthest extend possible, and I am certain that the University of Rhode Islands Engineering Program will give me a great introduction to my plan of success as an engineer.

My main three areas of interest are: engineering, Spanish, and sports. I am mainly interested in engineering because any type of field that deals with critical thinking, creativity, and success really attracts me. Ive always had a passion for academics, and that passion continues on, today. Of course, Ive always had a personal interest in Math and Physics. From the moment I was introduced to these fields, my brained began to seek for more and more of it. I remember watching endless amounts of episodes on the History Channel regarding astronomy, Newtonian physics, theories, on-going projects, etc. Ive also always been fascinated with the history of physics; The progression of physics over the years, its evolution and major role on the development of human knowledge of the world. Ive also always love to learn about the main contributors to the vast world of physics, names like Aristotle, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, and so on. Learning about their life, professionalism, and how they were able to revolutionize physics at their own time really made me think about the potential that every human has. We all have the ability to change the world, and thats the kind of mindset that, from my perspective, every engineer should have. How can you, as an engineer, change the world? My second field of interest is my language: Spanish. I have a tremendous appreciation for my language, my background. I want to maximize this appreciation for my language as much as possible, meanwhile making myself much more marketable. The Spanish language has grown exponentially over the last ten years, and I believe that the language will only continue to grow over the next ten years, and I believe that being bilingual is a essential skill to have in order to succeed in the future economy. I am very proud to say that Im Colombian, and I will never be shy of expressing who I am and where I come from. My third area of interest is sports & athletics. Ive always been involved in sports. I believe physical activity is essential for healthy brain, as well as a healthy body. Ive been playing sports from an early age as well. I think sports are a great way to stay in shape, you can also make new friends while you are at it. I personally, have a true passion for the sport of soccer. Ive been playing soccer since I was eight years old, and I havent stopped since. I just love getting on the field and having fun. It doesnt matter if Im playing with friends, or just by myself, having the ball in my feet, and a big space is all I need. Ive also applied many of the things I learned from Newtonian physics to soccer, learning how to shoot and pass better, as well as learning how to run, jump better as well. Soccer is my natural past time, and one of my favorite ways of having fun.

Ive also been very interested in athletics, physical activity, and sports.
