Learning method

INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR GEO-INFORMATION SCIENCE AND EARTH OBSERVATION

On the way to independent research

 Block 1 : lectures passive lecturer

 Block 2 : lectures and projects

 Block 3 : Independent learning

 Block 4 : Independent research active tutor

Independent learning

 You learn better by 'doing' than by

'listening' (active instead of passive).
 You have to try to sort problems out
yourself before asking for help.
 If you ask for help, you have to formulate
your questions well.
 Self-responsibility: You can manage your
own time (but you cannot be lazy...)
Independent learning

 Short introductions to the topics covered

in this module
 Scheduled discussion hours for questions
and feedback
 Self study of selected items of the book
“Imaging Spectrometry”
 Do assignments and create reports
 Communicate with fellow students and
lecturers as equals (“tutors”)
Usage of Blackboard

Module Information
 Timetable
Module materials
 Literature
 Assignments & Feedback
 Online exam
Communication
 Announcements
 Discussion board
Getting started

1.Check for announcements in Blackboard

2.Follow the schedule posted in Blackboard
3.Download the assignment of the session
indicated in the schedule
4.Read the book pages indicated, read the
assignment, and read additional lecture
materials if needed
5.Do the assignment and write a report
6.Hand over the report via Blackboard
Assignments

 Exercises are given with every session

 A list of deliverables are given with each
session
 Create a short report
 1 – 2 pages
 Figures and text as requested
 In PDF format
 Upload the report via assignment page in
Blackboard
Feedback

 Standardized feedback is given after the

deadline of the sessions has passed
 Personal feedback is added via the Grade
center in Blackboard
 Best is to get feedback while you work,
so use the discussion board and
discussion hours
Grading

Your mark for this course will be based on

 Completing assignments (50%)
 An online exam (50%)

 The exam is based on theory from the book

(sessions 2-7) and on contents of the
exercises
