Introduction

Notes: ANSYSCFX avoidstheproblemofroundofferrorbysubtractingtheoperatingpressure(generallya largepressureroughlyequaltotheaverageabsolutepressureintheflow)fromtheabsolute pressure,andusingtheresult(termedthegaugepressure).Theabsolutepressureissimplythesum oftheoperatingpressureandthegaugepressure. BuoyancyReferenceDensityisalsoavalueforavoidingroundoff errors.Forsimulationswhere pressureboundaryconditionsarepresentitisimportanttosetthevaluecorrectlyotherwisethe pressureattheboundarywillbeincorrectandmayleadtounphysicalflowconditions.Hereyouhave tosetittothedensitythatwillexistattheopeningboundarycondition(setlater)agasat293.15K with23%O2 and77%N2. Bydefault,CFXwillenforcethisdensityatnodenumber1inthemesh,whichissufficientforthis workshop.Othercasesmayrequiresettingthereferencedensityataspecificlocation.Thiscanbe donebyspecifyingtheoptionCartesianCoordinates. Thisstatefilestoresallthepostprocessingsettingsyouhavecreated. Ifyouhavedonethelongversionofthisworkshop,youwillrecallthatweranforafixednumber ofiterations,andwantedtoexaminetheresultstohelpusdetermineifthemodelhadconverged ornot.(Theresidualswerestuckandfurtheriterationswouldnotlowertheresiduals).Itmight bebe necessarytorevisitthemodelsetup,bymovingtoatransientscheme,ormodifyingthe modellingsettings.Ausefulassessmentofconvergenceistoseeiftheresultsofinterestremain unchangedasthesolversettingsareenhanced. Thebigadvantageofhavingthisstatefileisthatifyouchoosetomodifythesolversettingsand rerunthismodel,youcanquicklyreproducetheequivalentpostprocessingimages.Simplyload thenewresultsfile,thenloadthisstatefile. Likewise,itiscommoninprojectworktohaverunaseriesofmodelstotestthedifferent operatingconditions.Thistechniquewillletyougenerateequivalentimagessoastoproducea goodlikeforlikecomparisoninyourpresentation/report.
