Procedure A. Preparatory Activity Review Let the pupils read the following aloud. The school teacher asked my classmate to take off his hat. The salesman did not show up in the meeting. Lolo Martin is seventy years old now. My mother always tells us to put away our things. The landlords shoes look worn out, dont they? Motivation Get Me Prepare improvised balloons. Write words on the balloons. Post the balloons on the board. Have pupil will identify the meaning of the words by listening to your explanation. The pupils will get the balloon that matches the teachers explanation.

B. Developmental Activities Presentation 1. This time with the stress is on the second syllable. 3. Let them re-read each word orally with the stress on the first syllable, then with stress on the second syllable 4. Do the same activity by pairs. One student will read the word with the stress on the first syllable, the others will read the same word with stress on the second syllable. Let students listen as the teacher reads the sentences below. Notice the accent or the stress on the underline word. Let the students put the stress mark ( ) on the correct syllable. a. Father gave me a nice present on my birthday. b. He presented the gift at breakfast time. c. Mother showed me a complete record of my pictures. d. She recorded every little achievement I made. e. Grandmother always said that your conduct shows the kind of child you are.

Discussion and Analysis Have the pupils answer the following: 1. How are the underlined words in sentences 1, 3, and 5 used? (Present, record, and conduct are used as nouns.) 2. Where is the stress found in those words? (First syllable) 3. How about in sentences 2 and 4? Are the underlined words used as nouns ? (No) 4. How are the underlined words in those sentences use? (as Verbs) 5. Where is the stress on those words? (on the second syllable) Generalization Some are used both as nouns and as verbs. Where do we put the stress mark if the word is used as a noun? (nouns are usually stressed on the first syllable (e.g., prsent, rcord) Where do we put the stress sign if the word is used as a verb? (If the word is used as a verb, the stress is usually on the second syllable.)

C. Post Activity Application Write 1 if the stress in the underlined word should be on the first syllable, and 2 if it should be on the second syllable. Would you like to join the contest? Run to Me 1. Teacher will ask two pupils to stand in front. One will hold a banner where 1st Syllable is written and the other will hold a banner where 2nd Syllable is written. 2. The teacher will say a word. Then, she will invite the pupils to join by lining up infront of the banner that shows where the word is stressed. 3. Those who belong to the wrong banner will be eliminated.
