Indication: Relief of moderate to moderately severe pain MECHANISM OF ACTION It inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine, serotonin and enhances serotonin release. It alters perception and response to pain by binding to mu-opiate receptor in the CNS. SIDE EFFECTS Skin: itching GI: Nausea and Heartburn. NURSING CONSIDERATION Assess type, location, and intensity of pain before and 2-3 hr (peak) after administration. Assess BP & RR before and periodically during administration. Respiratory depression has not occurred with recommended doses. Prolonged use may lead to physical and psychological dependence and tolerance Administer on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before a meal. Advise patient to notify doctor immediately if they have abdominal pain or diarrhea because drug can interfere with absorption of vitamin B12, monitor for anemia.
Indication: Treatment of heartburn or symptoms of GERD Contraindication: Hypersensitivity to substituted benzimidazoles or to any component of the formulation.

INDICATION/ MECHANISM SIDE EFFECTS CONTRAINDICATION OF ACTION Indication: It blocks the CV: hypotension, Spasm in the muscarinic tachycardia, genitourinary tract receptors thus blocks GI: Dry mouth, Contraindications: acetylcholine on nausea prostate hypertrophy the receptors with urinary retention found on the smooth muscle walls of the gastrointestinal and urinary tract and thus reduces the spasms and contractions.
NURSING CONSIDERATION Administer 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals Raise side rails as a precaution because some patients become temporarily excited or disoriented and some develop amnesia or become drowsy. Reorient patient, as needed, Tolerance may develop when therapy is prolonged Drug is given every8-12 hrs as directed. Follow dilution, dosage guidelines. Report and sign of superinfection (black furry overgrowth on tongue, vaginal itching or discharge, loose or foulsmelling stools)
Generic Antibiotic, Indication: used to name: Extended-spectrum treat a wide variety of Piperacillin + penicillin bacterial infections Tazobactam Contraindications: Brand name: History of allergic Zosyn reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or beta-lactamase inhibitors; hypersensitivity to any component of the product.
Tazobactam inhibits betalactamases thus ensuring activity of piperacillin against betalactamase producing microorganisms. Thus tazobactam broadens the antibiotic spectrum of piperacillin to those bacteria normally resistant to it.
CLASSIFICATION Anti-pyretic
MECHANISM OF ACTION It decreases fever by inhibiting the effects of pyrogens on the hypothalamus heat regulating centers & by a hypothalamic action leading to sweating & vasodilatation. It interferes with DNA by inhibiting DNA synase replication in susceptible gram-negative and grampositive bacteria, preventing cell reproduction.
SIDE EFFECTS GI: nausea, abdominal pain Hemo: Thrombocytopenia Hemolytic anemia
NURSING CONSIDERATION Monitor CBC, liver and renal functions. Take with food or milk to minimize GI upset.
Antibiotic, Fluoroquinolone
Indication: Treatment of complicated and uncomplicated UTIs and acute pyelonephritis caused by susceptible bacteria Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones, quinolone antibiotics
GI: Nausea, dry mouth Skin: itchiness, muscle and joint tenderness
Administer oral drug 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals with a glass of water Ensure that patient is well hydrated during course of therapy. Advise patient to avoid sun exposure or use sunscreen to prevent phototoxicity.
