PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LOS ANGELES INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES Acting Director of Special Projects, Information Technology Services July 2012 Present I partner with the VP for IT & CTO, directors and project teams to deliver critical student-funded IT projects and assist in the creation of a five-year IT strategic plan. I am responsible for the coordination of central services in support of compliance, integrity and efficiency management, strategic planning, disaster recovery and business continuity management, financial management, professional standards, and operational efficiencies and effectiveness. Accomplishments include: I directed senior and middle management in the execution and operational strategies for student-funded IT projects within budget. I wrote the IT infrastructure components of the five-year IT strategic plan recommending investments in network bandwidth, management and staff training, creating a CSULA mobile presence, and campus website design for improved self-service access to campus resources. I developed staff training strategies, which enabled the expansion of staff expertise thereby, gaining staff head count, enhancing service quality and student, faculty and staff satisfaction. I established internal and external communication strategies to partner with campus technical partners, students, staff, and faculty to align technology strategies with institutional strategies. I developed operational efficiencies, which, led to a reduction in recurring operational expenses generating high-impact, sustainable results. I directed contractors for projects designed to implement technology service solutions for campus constituents while meeting project timelines and budgets. I introduced IT best practice strategies for network infrastructure and server architecture leading to quicker access to disaster recovery process and procedures.

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON OFFICE OF THE VICE PROVOST OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER Manager of IT Research Infrastructure March 2010 June 2012 Co-Chair, UW-Madison Research Support and Services Initiative 2006 2013 I partnered with VP for IT & CIO, directors and project teams in delivering critical research computing infrastructure for new campus-wide high-performance and high-throughput (HPC/HTC) systems. I was responsible for the development, delivery, and/or coordination of UW-Madison research computing infrastructure service portfolio. This included the development and execution of a campus research infrastructure computing strategy. I identified emerging advanced research computing needs, partnered with centralized and decentralized IT staff to develop new advanced research computing solutions, allocated resources and prioritized projects. I was specifically responsible for the coordination of central services in support of advanced research computing needs. I also served as the project manager for both the Mobile UW Initiative (MobileUW, a mobile application service) and the Madison Unified Fiber Network (MUFN, a government funded grant to deploy fiber to schools) deployment. Accomplishments include: HPC service Portfolio I wrote budget proposals for the implementation of HPC/HTC systems yielding budget savings through vendor negotiations, which, resulted in a centralized HPC service for faculty and researchers. I managed professional staff and facilitators in disparate campus groups to build a coalition to support and maintain research and faculty computing needs. I represented UW-Madison in the development of national scientific computing strategies for higher education, research institutions as the liaison for the Coalition for Academic Computation (CASC), an educational nonprofit organization advocating the use of the most advanced computing technology to accelerate scientific discovery, I represented UW-Madison during conference panel discussions in support of the HUBZero platform for research universities as the liaison for the HUBzero Consortium (Purdue University, Indiana University, Clemson University, UW-Madison), a platform used to create dynamic web sites for scientific research and educational activities. I executive produced the Wisconsin Research Profiles video series highlighting UW-Madison researchers thereby promoting and broadening their scientific contributions for the campus constituents and beyond. I helped develop IT policy and planning as the Office of the VP of IT & CIO collaborator for the Technology Committee (ITC), a shared governance advisory body comprised of faculty, academic staff, and students for UW-Madison. Mobile UW Service Initiative I was the lead strategist and project manager for the UW-Madison Mobile Applications Initiative, Mobile UW that was named as among the top three mobile applications for universities to interact with students and used by everyone (Matchbox.net, April 12, 2012, http://t.co/CH30G9sK). I also managed the team of software developers to create the university mobile presence within two months. I developed and executed a budget with minimal startup funds as Mobile UW Steering Committee Chair (university executive leadership group), Madison Unified Fiber Network Project I project managed the Madison Unified Fiber Network (MUFN), an eight-million dollar government grantfunded collaborative project deploying a metro fiber-optic network serving education, health, government, and Non-Profit-Organization anchor institutions in Madison, Middleton, and Monona, WI areas completed within three years. I maintained solid, transparent vendor relationships that allowed the university to realize substantial discounts beyond bulletin prices.

Assistant Director, Campus Network Services Group January 2003 March 2010 I directed the Campus Network Services Group (CNS) comprised of 16 network engineers including Network Operations Center second level network engineers responsible for day-to-day management of the UW-Madison campus network. I identified and allocated resources required for each CNS project, determined staffing needs, acquired outside contractor services and managed staff resources and vendor relationships to provide productrelated services and support. This enabled me to participate in division-wide strategic planning efforts to develop and implement business plans, group policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, marketing strategies, contract management, and customer outreach to ensure cost-effective, customer-focused delivery of campus network products, systems and services. I also provided direction of the research and development efforts of the group. Accomplishments include the following UW Madison projects: I successfully managed campus network engineers deploy and complete the 21 Century Network Upgrade Project, a four-year project to upgrade the campus backbone to 10 gigabit Ethernet that, included the installation of new network equipment in over 180 campus buildings. I managed a team of network engineers to complete the Centralized Wireless Expansion Project, a deployment of ubiquitous centralized wireless (802.11a/b/g/n) coverage in over 180 campus buildings within three years. I managed a team of network engineers and worked closely with our vendor to research and ensure appropriate configurations and services for installation in the campus backbone network within two years. I leveraged research and development efforts with the campus vendor to design a new generation of the campus network to improve high-bandwidth specialized research needs. I managed the successful deployment of campus wide a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Service which, enabled faculty and staff to securely connect to UW and national network resources. I maintained solid, transparent vendor relationships that allowed the university to attain substantial discounts beyond state bulletin prices yielding $3.5 million in institutional savings within four years. I aided and advised the CIO, COO, and senior management on priorities, finances, capital purchases, business opportunities, and customer service issues. I participated in division-wide strategic planning efforts, and developed and managed tactical and operational plans, which supported the divisions strategic goals and objectives. 2001 to 2003 took sabbatical to recharge batteries after lengthy tenure in the telecom and cable TV industries.

UUNET TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (FORMERLY ANS COMMUNICATIONS; INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS), ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN Manager, Dial Installation Engineering, June 2000 March 2001 I directed network 13 engineers in the Ann Arbor, MI and Purchase, NY offices responsible for 35,000 per month port growth on a dial-up access network dedicated specifically for America Online service. I also facilitated communication between subscribers, vendors, division management, and represented the company during discussions with city authorities towards problem resolution. Accomplishments include the following UUNET projects: I directed the engineers to complete or exceed monthly quotas on schedule or ahead of schedule and consistently outperformed our competitors during my tenure.
