Area friends, oilfield workers set to race in CBS reality show premiering Sept. 29
All it took was io seconds for Tim Wiyninger and Danny Merkey, both graduates of Cordell High School, to catch the attention of producers from an award-wining reality television show. Nurse accused of abusing patient

Elk City man admits he injured elderly man in his care
An Elk City nursing assistant is accused of causing severe injuries after dragging an elderly patient's bare feet on hot, sidewalk concrete while pushing the patient in a wheel chair without foot rests earlier this month. Thursday, Christopher Armando Andrade, a 25-year-old certified nursing assistant, was charged with caretaker abuse in Beckham County District Court. A judge has set an appearance bond of $20,000. According to the affidavit written by an Elk City detective, Andrade was instructed by his employer, Elk City Nursing Home, located at 301 North Garrett, to pick up a 71-year-old patient who had been discharged from Great Plains Medical Center around noon on Sept. 7. Andrade was instructed to walk, not to use a vehicle. The patient was taken by ambulance to the hospital earlier in the day because of a high temperature and vomiting. Andrade went to the hospital, a few blocks from the nursing home, but turned back after he realized the patient's wheel chair remained at the nursing home. He retrieved an oxygen hose and the patient's wheel chair which did not have foot rests. A detective said Andrade told him he was assured by nursing home staff that the patient's shoes were at the hospital, the affidavit Christopher stated. Debbie Porter McManaman remembers the last time she saw her grandpa, John A. Porter, 44 years ago on April 8, 1969. She was just 13 years old, lived in Cheyenne, and came to Elk City with her family to visit him. "I remember the last day we saw him really well," she said. "...We parked over there where Chick's Pawn Shop was, kind of in the shade, and sat there and visited with him in the car." Then, as a part of a normal routine, her Grandpa Porter pulled out several dollar bills to give to his three grandkids.
