Bacillary dysentery

This is an infectious disease of the intestines caused by dysentery bacilli with chill,
fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea with discharge of watery stool
many times in a day at the beginning, and later with passage of pus and bloody stool,
scanty in amount, sticky in nature, and pink or fresh red in color. If the disease is not
effectively cured at the early stage, the patient may suffer from fever, dizziness,
fatigue, high fever, lassitude, restlessness, pale complexion, cold limbs, hypotension,
coma, collapse, cyanosis, and respiratory failure.

Treatment:

Foot massage: The massage may be applied to lymph nodes (upper body, 39), lymph
nodes (abdomen, 40), small intestine (25), ascending, transverse and descending colon
(28, 29 and 30) and rectum (31) reflecting areas (Fig. 52).

Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoints: At Gongsun (SP 4), Shugu (BL 65), Neiting (ST 44), Taibai
(SP 3) and Shangqiu (SP 5) acupoints, a reducing technique is applied to the acute
patient, and a reinforcing technique or moxibustion after acupuncture is applied to the
patient with chronic diarrhea; the needles are retained for 20 minutes and Yongquan
(KI 1) may be added for patients with high fever and hypotension.
2) Foot acupoints: At Small intestine (FA-P 11) and Colon (FA-P 13) acupoints, a
moderate twisting stimulation is applied and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.

External application of drugs:
1) A proper amount of garlic is pounded to prepare a paste for application over the
central area of both soles.
2) The powder of Wuzhuyu (evodia fruit) 6 gm is mixed with vinegar to prepare a
paste for application into the umbilicus and over bilateral Yongquan (KI 1) acupoints.
