Horizontal Lifeline Systems

Designed to give workers the mobility they want and the safety they need.
A horizontal lifeline system may appear to be a basic line strung between two anchors. It is not! Proper engineering is critical to ensure a safe lifeline. Failure of a lifeline system can cause serious injury or even death.Typical failures involve improper calculation of clearance, no account for sag in the lifeline, misunderstanding of anchorage strength, and location. Calculating clearance and fall distance is crucial to ensuring worker safety. Many factors must be considered, d-ring height and movement, cable sag and deflection, shock absorber length and extension, initial anchorage height, and distance to lower obstructions. Horizontal systems that have not endured rigorous engineering and testing can not possibly predict these factors and are extremely dangerous. In any homemade lifeline system some sag in the lifeline is inevitable. While it may not seem like an important detail, the amount of sag amplifies the forces on your end anchors. In a system with only 5 degrees of sag the forces on the anchorage would be 5 times higher than those for the worker. If the worker was exposed to 1,800 lbs. arresting force the anchorage connectors would be subjected to 9,000 lbs. each.To meet the minimum safety factor of two, for an engineered system, each anchor must support at least 18,000 lbs. DBI/SALA takes the guesswork out of putting together a horizontal fall protection system. Each of our systems has been engineered to met the demands of the workplace and meets OSHA and ANSI requirements. With four unique systems you are sure to find a solution to your individual requirements and a safe alternative to unengineered products.

Horizontal Lifeline Systems Iron Wing

Heavy Duty Portable Horizontal Lifeline Systems
Iron Wing systems are designed for situations where extremely long or multiple spans are needed or when larger beams are present during heavy construction, bridge work, on pipe racks, etc.The easy to install and fully customizable Iron Wing System is carefully engineered for continuous fall protection while giving you freedom of movement. Choose from standard models to fit beams up to 1-1/4 thick and 6-12 wide, or select optional components to fit up to 3 thick and up to 24 wide beams. DBI/SALAs 3-point claw/contact system offers reliability without tie-back, reducing trip fall hazards. The all metallic system, designed for durability and safety, includes a 3/8" 7x19 galvanized cable lifeline offset from the beam by 12 inches for easy passage and elevated 40 inches high for use as a hand rail. Engineered for convenience as well as safety, you can purchase a complete turnkey system or customdesign a system to fit your specific job requirements.

Horizontal Lifeline Systems BeamSafe

Portable Horizontal Lifeline Systems
BeamSafe is an excellent choice for building and bridge construction where spans of 60 feet or less are needed. Designed with the help of craftsmen in the field, the BeamSafe system gives you an easy-to-install tie-off point before flooring or other fall protection is available. Position the BeamSafe system almost anywhere on a beam for both fall protection and as a hand-rail for balance-for up to two people. Installing the system is quick and easy, requiring just a standard wrench to assemble the two bolts and a safety strap. Each lightweight stanchion, weighing less than 35 lbs., mounts at a 19 degree angle from the base to keep it out of the way while walking the beam.

Shock Absorber Zorbit

Shock Absorber for Horizontal Lifelines
Weve added safety and taken the guesswork out of putting together your own horizontal lifeline system. Can you answer the following questions? How much clearance do I need? How will lifeline sag and span distance affect the safety of my system? What forces will be generated on my end anchors? Do my anchorage connectors and support structure have sufficient strength? Now you can. This revolutionary new shock absorber featured on our Beamsafe and cable Sayfline systems is also available separately. In situations where a competent person understands the requirements needed, Zorbit can be attached to your own system to bring safety to a previously unsafe system.
