Headmasters Notice 20th September 2013

Junior School Cookery Club

After school on Monday our 15 Infant & Junior chefs took over the new cookery room and made the most wonderful cheese scones. The children were delighted with their results and were very proud to take them home for tea. It would be useful if each child could bring a named cake tin each week to ensure that their baking makes it home safely Next week we will be making muffins! Unfortunately this club was over subscribed and because of this I will ensure that all the children who were not included this term are guaranteed a place when we start again in January. Thank you Mrs N Thomson.

The Great North Air Ambulance will be in school to collect any of your unwanted items on

Thursday 7th November.

Heres what to do! Place clean, dry clothing, sheets, curtains and towels in one bag and pairs of shoes, belts and handbags together in another bag. (any type of bag can be used) No Bric a Brack please. Would you then take your donations to the Liddiard Foyer from 8am until 9.00am on Thursday 7th November (not before please)

Busy Weekend of Sport at Polam Hall School.

There were lots of sporting successes last weekend and in our Reading assembly we celebrated their success with a sports report from Sports Captain, Charlotte Gauja. In netball we had country trials on Sunday where Philippa Hirst, Jenny Hirst, Ellie Dalby, Ellie Schoon, Kate Metcalfe and Emma Lawson all made selection. It was great to have so many girls at the trials and well done to all who took part. In rugby, Heather Thomson was selected for the U15 County Durham Squad and Joshua Carden-Grigg is enjoying playing for Darlington RFC. In Dance, Lucy Booth has been successful in her auditions for the Phoenix Youth Dance Academy in Leeds which is a brilliant achievement. Dance certificates were also awarded too Emily Hartley, Alfreya Bell, Freya Bowen, Kemer Aydin, Charlotte Crowther and Charis Wilson. In Hockey on Thursday the U16 girls team travelled to Longfield for a Tournament and won two games out of three. They lost their first game 1-0 against Longfield A but soon got used to playing indoors and managed to beat a strong Carmel side 3-2 and then Longfield B 2-0. Well done girls and good luck to the U15s next week! On Saturday, Emily Gauja took part in the Junior Great North Run and came 21st out of approximately 250 in the U16 age category which was an excellent achievement. We had two teachers in the Great North Run on Sunday. Well done to Mrs Garvey who ran 2hrs 21minutes and Mr Wilkinson who ran an impressive 1hr 54minutes. Mr Wilkinson would like to thank everyone, especially those from Polam Hall School who sponsored him for the charity of Daisy Chain Project where donations have raised over 500. Finally, Mr Moreland (Headteacher) was also very busy in throwing events over the weekend at the British Masters Athletics Championships. He won 4 golds and 1 silver in his new age group. Events included, Discus (Gold), Shot Put (Gold), Heavy Hammer Throw (Gold), Hammer Throw (Silver) and he won the Pentathalon (Gold) even when his Javelin Throw was shorter than other competitors but was his Personal Best. Well done to all at Polam Hall who have been getting involved in Sport both inside and out of school and lets keep performing well!
