Milwaukee Urban Promise Lunch Club

What is it? Milwaukee area professionals meeting once a month for lunch
with high school students for the purpose of friendship, advice, advocacy, knowledge sharing, guidance and general mentoring.

3rd Wednesday of the month 11:10-12:10 St. Anthony High School 4807 S. 2nd St. Just across from the airport, south of Layton, west of Howell, tucked behind the hotel that used to be there.

Our promise to you: As a volunteer, you will have a unique opportunity to help provide these students with something they cant get anywhere else exposure to business professionals whose diverse perspectives and insights will round out their learning in very important ways.

The programs at both Ronald Reagan High School and St. Anthony High School are rigorous pre-university course of studies for highly motivated students, exposing them to the two great traditions of learningthe humanities and the sciences. RRHS won a bronze award from US News & World Report for Best High Schools in America and is an international baccalaureate world school (IB). For more info: www.rrhsconnect.org. St. Anthony is the largest Catholic School in the United States and is in the application process to implement the IB program.

What are the volunteer opportunities/requirements? We are


looking for a diverse group of professionals who have a heart for students in the city and enjoy interacting with students in the Junior and Senior year of high school. We are looking for diversity in race, ethnicity, profession and background. We are looking for volunteers at three different levels of commitment. 1. Monthly volunteers who show up on a consistent basis for the monthly lunch period 2. One time speaker volunteers who speak for 10-15 minutes on specialized topic or professional vocation area 3. Substitute monthly lunch volunteers that are on-call to fill a gap when needed All volunteers will be asked to complete MPS or St. Anthony Volunteer Applications prior to participation in the program.

Cost: Lunches are covered by grant funding.

What will the typical lunch agenda look like?


Arrival and lunch with group of students 25 minutes Welcome message and announcements 5 minutes Topical speaker presentation, followed by small group discussion 3 0 - 45 minutes

Who are the students in the program? The students will primarily be Seniors, identified by
the school faculty, as in need to additional guidance to navigate the process of senior year: Reflection on their strengths Exploration of post-secondary options College and/or career selection Scholarship, grant and other funding decisions Preparation for the high school to college/career transition They are highly motivated students with a desire to learn more from outside sources and people.
