So, You think thunder storms are no big deal, huh? Well, Lola Bisignano of Broad Street in Hudson Falls New York found out the hard way that they can be very dangerous. It is not the thunder that causes damage, its the lightening. On June 2 of this year Lolas house was struck by lightning, which caused a fire that caused so much damage the inside of the house had to be gutted and the roof replaced. These pictures show the workmen of Adirondack Custom Homes removing the roof. Later they replaced the roof with new rafters, sheathing and shingles. Lola purchased the property in 1981 and just last Spring finished paying the mortgage. She was heartbroken! Lola hopes to be in her refurbished home in early November. That would be a good Thanksgiving for her. We wish her all the best!

STEVENS BURGESS- The artwork of Salem artist, D. Stevens Burgess, is currently on display in the first floor Benn Room of the Courthouse Community Center and will remain on view through the month of September. Stevens was born in New Delhi, India and studied art in Bangkok, Thailand and New York. His exhibit contains 17 works focusing on land, water and the natural world. His studies are creations of his own imagination, and he no longer uses points of reference in any of his pieces. His tones are subtle, and his paintings draw the viewer into the landscape in a most relaxing manner. Stevens has exhibited his work in several area galleries with this being his second exhibit at the CCC. The Benn room is handicap accessible and open to the public.

Changes in transportation are documented by period photographs and artifacts. Goods and services in the stores are discussed by local writers who also remembered or heard about railway and canal experiences. Shipments made their way up the Hudson, through the Champlain Canal and north to Lake Champlain or when heading south to Albany, Troy or New York City. Containers had improved to accommodate larger numbers of goods and more efficient ways to dispense foods in the stores. Options in 1900 now included wooden boxes, cloth bags, crates, barrels, kegs, tin bins, cans and, for home-use, scuttles and baskets. There was no light-weight cardboard, no corrugated cardboard boxes, few brown paper bags, to say nothing of plastic! Conveyances varied according to size, weight, and distance which commodities had to travel. Locally, some general stores would take orders and deliver in a day or two. A wagon or cart with horse could be rented by an individual or small business from a livery for local travel. Within the county, stagecoaches could carry travelers and their baggage, smaller parcels, and some mail. By using both the canal and, later, the railroad, general stores provided necessary and desirable goods closer to home. Stocking the General Stores is open to the public at no charge on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. through November. It is in the Heritage Research Center at the Washington County Historical Society, 167 Broadway, Fort Edward, New York. For further information call 518-747-9108 or email wchs@wchs-ny.org.

Financial Reviews
by Breanna Fulper
Breanna Fulper, a financial advisor with Edward Jones has contributed to the management and financial strategy of many businesses around the country and recently planted roots in Washington County, NY. She will be located at 2 Church Street, Greenwich, NY once a few minor renovations are complete. This is an exciting time for me;I am getting married to Reid Lundy, moving to his family dairy farm near Argyle, NY, and transitioning my business to the Greenwich community, Fulper said.I started my rewarding career as a financial advisor in my hometown of Lambertville, NJ and Im eager to develop the same kind of relationships in Greenwich and the surrounding communities. Fulper was very active in her hometown and volunteered countless hours toward the success of the community. I would like to mirror those efforts in my new community and add value to Washington County. Fulper said. She already is serving on the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, offering college education planning seminars at the local schools, and volunteering at the Whipple City Festival. Fulper naturally developed a strong work ethic from being raised on her familys dairy farm and received her Bachelors Degree from Cornell University. These experiences led to her entrepreneurial style of financial management to provide the highest level of service to help her clients achieve their financial goals. Although she still considers herself a farm girl and plays an important managerial role on her familys 104-year old dairy farm, the drive and work ethic that was instilled in her at a young age creates the foundation for her business creating long-term relationships with her clients. She is proud of her firm, Edward Jones for its reputation and recognitions from prestigious organizations specializing in client satisfaction and financial advice. I truly enjoy helping my retired clients create more income and protect their hard-earned assets, working parents pay for their childrens college education and pre-retirees create a strategy to boost their retirement savings and save money on taxes. Fulper can create customized financial strategies for each clients unique goals. I chose to open my office in Greenwich because I love the sense of community, business-friendly regulations and the fact that its a hub for agricultural and professional services, Fulper said.I would like to express sincere appreciation to the many people in the community who have been welcoming and supportive of my move to Greenwich. If you are a client of mine already, I truly value and appreciate the confidence and trust you have placed in me despite the fact that Im a new addition to the community. Fulper provides financial services for local individuals, families and businesses with a special niche working with agricultural businesses, women, and retirees. Consider Fulper as your local financial resource; a true farm girl at heart who understands family and business dynamics and the important financial decisions that need to be made. Fulper can be reached on her cell at (315) 406-0731 until she receives her Greenwich business phone number or e-mail her at breanna.fulper@edwardjones.com. Stay tuned for her articles in this newspaper each month, where she will provide financial information and help keep us apprised of topical and relevant financial strategies.
