Christmas cards?! Already? Last years Ladies Aid supply of boxed Christmas cards sold out quickly so this year they ordered earlier and they ordered more boxes which have already been received and are ready for sale. The cost is $5.00 per box. They can be purchased at the Church Office during regular hours or on Sunday mornings in the Parish Center hallway from the Scrip volunteer.

The members of St. Marks Church contributed a total $210,893.46 in August including school tuition and bequests. $134,094.00 was received for the general operating fund in August and the operating needs were $106,330.10 leaving a surplus of $27,763.90. With the carryover balance from 2012 and the contributions to the debt reduction fund, no borrowing has been needed this year. The debt reduction fund shows a balance of a $53,500.47 the end of August. $59,238.67 was received for the month of August toward our goals for missions, Lakeside, Property Maintenance, Debt reduction, Hispanic Outreach, and the ROC. The needs for our goals were $31,280.30. Contributions toward the goals were $27,958.37 above the needs. $17,560.79 was received toward Future Generations in August, the capitol fund campaign, to pay for the school expansion and renovation. Needs were $17,760.00. Contributions were $199.21 below needs.

Pebbles From the ROC... On December 3rd, 2003 our Recreation & Outreach Center (THE ROC) for Youth opened its doors at 321 S. Water St. (colorful building just down from the library) and immediately enjoyed a constant flow of teens who were mostly unchurched. Work on this unique mission and ministry had really begun four years earlier as members of St. Johns, St. Lukes, St. Marks, and Trinity began informally discussing the concept of a youth center. In January of 2001, the congregations voted to form a task force (Watertown Youth Center Task Force) to study the possibility of a youth center. In April of 2003, the congregations voted to replace the task force with a board of directors made up of individuals from each of the four congregations. The Board then, in the name of all four congregations, issued a Divine Call to Pastor Timothy Mueller who accepted and arrived in Watertown with his family in August of 2003. After many meetings, the City Planning Commission unanimously voted to give the ROC use of the 321 S. Water St. building for a youth center. Neighbors who had previously opposed the youth center later came to love and appreciate it. During this 10th Anniversary year we will continue to share history of THE ROC showing Gods blessings and how we arrived at owning our own building at 213 N. Third Street. A ROC 10TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE will be held on Sunday, December 8th, from 12-3 p.m. All are invited. Another goal for our 10th Anniversary is for all of us to completely pay off ($13,000 remaining) the building and remodeling. Thank you so much for your constant support and gifts. THE ROC has been a
wonderful mission for Christ, reaching out to over 2000 different teens over the TEN YEARS.
Stewardship Status & An Anecdote What little known ministry does your offering support? Pastor Walther reports: It was 1998. A little girl had turned 10 over the summer. She had recently arrived from Mexico, along with her family. The little girl lived at the corner of Sixth and Spring, here in Watertown. This brought her into contact with folks from a church which had recently begun Spanish Language services. Since she knew little English, she was put with her brother into second grade at the churchs school. She would advance a grade, and later graduate. Last year she returned from Waterloo. Her son enrolled in our school: among the first of the second-generation students from Spanish Language homes. A couple months ago, her other three children were baptized. She regularly attends our Spanish Language services, along with her children. She is Juana Pineda, your sister in Christ. Your support of your church and school means that she and her family will someday accompany you to heavenly glory through faith in Jesus Christ. Where are we at on the operating budget? 2013 through August Expenses: $903,000 Offerings: $819,000 Shortfall: $ 84,000
Christian Doctrine - WLC Job Offerings - Messenger Christian Doctrine: Natural & Revealed Knowledge of God The Almighty God is infinitely superior to human beings in every dimension! How, then, can we get to know him? Well, first lets admit: There are some things we will never know, but God does. The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever (Dt 29:29). Still, there are things that God divulges to us about himself according to natural knowledge and revealed knowledge. By creation and by conscience: God teaches us that he exists, that he is powerful and wise and that he punishes sin. Since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made (Romans 1:20). And: Gentiles show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them (Romans 2:15). Thats the natural knowledge of God. It is valuable, but it cannot
Page 4
save us. The revealed knowledge of God is much more detailed, and it does rescue us from hell. By Scripture: God reveals that he has rescued us from our sins through Jesus Christ. The jailer at Philippi knew God by natureand trembled. It was only by the proclamation of Gods Word that he learned: "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). So, appreciate the natural knowledge of God. But treasure his revealed knowledge the Scriptures! and especially Jesus your Savior.

Spanish Outreach... This past September was the 15th anniversary of the start of our worship services, plus the beginning of another new school year. Its an especially appropriate time to consider Christs blessings to our Spanish Language congregation. Below are some of the numbers. 108 is the approximate number of souls who are our members. These are those who have been confirmed, plus their baptized children. Nearly all of them were in worship at some point in the past year. 45 was the average attendance at worship over these twelve months. Praise the Holy Spirit!and pray for his work. 36 is the number of students from 20 Spanish-speaking homes who are enrolled at St. Marks school. It means that our Heavenly Father has gathered practically all of our eligible students into our school ! 7 is the number of baptisms en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espritu Santo in the past year. This is a marvelous example of the Holy Spirits love: placing children into their Heavenly Fathers arms with sins washed away in Jesus name. 6 + 3 + 5 is the number of adult confirmations plus professions of faith on the part of youth during the last twelve months and the adults currently under instruction. These have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make them wise for salvation. The above figures are much influenced by the skilled work of our faithful deacon, known to our Mexican friends as Pastor Dale. The numbers also reflect the outstanding work of the excellent teachers at St. Marks School. Even if the future were to bring much smaller numbers than those above, we would gladly give thanks to our exceedingly gracious Savior for all his labor on behalf of these precious souls.
Your Pastors Want to Serve You at the Hospital... When you are hospitalized, your pastors want to visit you. However, they need your help to do so. If your hospitalization takes place at the local hospital in Watertown, PLEASE BE SURE TO ANSWER YES WHEN THEY ASK IF YOU WANT YOUR CLERGY TO VISIT. If hospitalization takes place outside of Watertown: please let one of the pastors knoweven in advance, if it is a scheduled surgery. In time of emergency or as death is quickly drawing near: the telephone is your best avenue to reach a pastorand start by calling the church office, if possible. The whole congregation is happy to pray on your behalf when you are ill. Simply let one of the pastors know youd like a prayer in church.

Are You Hiding in Sin? Here is a shocking statistic: 50% of Christian men and 20% of Christian women admit they are addicted to pornography. Yes, Christian men and women. Along with this sin come guilt, shame, and a sense of helplessness. If you or someone you know is struggling with pornography and you don't know where to turn, turn here: www.ConquerorsThroughChrist.net This new website from WELS Mental Health offers forgiveness, help, and hope. (Your pastor is also available to discuss this with you in complete confidentiality.)

General News
The Teaching Staff for the 2013-2014 School Year
Mr. Adrian Smith received a call to teach at Martin Luther College as a professor of music. Mr. Smith accepted his call and he and his family have moved to New Ulm. This caused two vacancies in the staff for grade 5 and Pre-K. The voters of St. Marks gather together in a formal call meeting and extended calls to Mrs. Gretchen Fiemeyer to teach 5th grade and to Mrs. Carol Tetzlaff to teach Pre-K. Bothe Mrs. Fiemeyer and Mrs. Tetzlaff have accepted their calls to St. Marks. The staff of St. Marks is now ready to go for the 2013-2014 school year. We thank God for this special blessing.

Manner/Socialization Program
The Manners/Socialization Program is off to such a positive start. I would like compliment all of the students on the efforts using their manners each day at school. They are doing a great job and so are the teachers. In the upper grades the students have been fantastic in carrying out the guidelines for behavior. I am very impressed that the students are so positive and willing to be so polite and gracious to one another and the t eacher. This all speaks well of Gods children at St. Marks. If you have a chance and would like to come by school to see the students in action, please do so. We are off to such a great start. I pray that the Lord continues to bless the efforts of the students and teachers. **************************************************************************************************

Forensics
The Forensics Program for the 2013-2014 school year will be very different. First of all, we want to encourage as many of our young people to go out for Forensics as possible this year. Since there will not be a drama program for the upper grades every year, Forensics will be emphasized a great deal during the off year for drama. The 2013-2014 school year is an off year for drama and therefore we will have a larger and more intense Forensics Program this year. Forensics at St. Marks is a Co-curricular program where the students practice at school during the school day and then attend several Forensic Meets in October and November. Students that are involved in other activities such as sports could still participate in the Forensics Program if there is no conflict with the various Forensic meets. All students this year will remain part of the Forensics Team; however, the students that go to each Meet will be chosen based on the Meets restrictions and the students overall talents. All the Forensics students will continue to prepare for the huge extravaganza held at St. Marks on November 22nd even if they do not attend all meets. That night of November 22nd the Forensics Team will be joined by all 5th through 8th grade students for an awesome display of public speaking talent. The classroom students will be doing Readers Theater performances as a class. Parental help will be needed with our more aggressive Forensics Program. If you, as a parent, can help, please contact Mr. Uttech as soon as possible. A few guidelines are included in this note. Please read through the material and then encourage your son or daughter to join the Forensics Program at St. Marks. Please read the attached note concerning Forensics. Mr. Uttech
