EFL METHODOLOGY (BIG 720) Syllabus

Prof. Dr. Nenden Sri Lengkanawati, M.Pd COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES: This course is designed to prepare the students with a number of different theoretical views, the concepts and principles of EFL methodology that serve as the source for classroom practices. The course is also expected to broaden the students knowledge and horizon related to current issues on the developments and research findings in the field of EFL methodology. The coverage of the course will include the theoretical foundations for classroom practices, contexts of teaching, designing and implementing classroom techniques, classroom practicalities, and some practicalities of language teaching assessments. In addition, this course will also cover some Innovative Techniques in EFL teaching. ACTIVITIES: Course activities include class sessions chapter report presentations and class discussions, research based paper writing and presentation, midterm and final exam. EVALUATION SYSTEM: 1. Class participationStudents are expected to be involved in classroom activities at least 80% of the whole sessions. 2. Reading report presentation (1 point). The Chapter report including the transparencies should be turned in one week before the presentation day. Summary, other related theories, criticism or position or critical analysis, research report related to the topic, conclusion, and references. 3. Research-based Paper Writing and Presentation (2 points). The paper due on 9 November, 2013 4. Final Semester Exam (2 points). SOME REGULATIONS 1. 2. 3. Lateness would be tolerated no later than 15 minutes after the time scheduled. During the class sessions, all mobiles should be silent or vibrated. During the presentation sessions, all computers should not be turned on.
