Quality Assurance A. Manufacturer : In so far as possible, obtain each kind of hardware from only one manufacturer; even though several may be indicated as acceptable manufacturers. Departure from Scheduled Designation. Except as otherwise indicated, the use of one manufacturers numeric designation system in schedules does not imply that another manufacturers products will not be acceptable, unless they are not acceptable in design, or not equal in size, weight , finish, function or other quality of significance.

Submittals A. Manufacturers Data; Finish Hardware: Submit manufacturers product data, including illustrations for each item of hardware. Include whatever information may be necessary to show compliance with requirements and include instructions for installation and for maintenance of operating parts and exposed finishes. Wherever needed, furnish templates to fabricators of other work which is to receive finish hardware. Hardware Schedule; Finish Hardware: Submit copies of the hardware schedule, in the manner and format specified for approval. Hardware schedules are intended for coordination of the work. Review and acceptance by the Companys Representative does not relieve the CONTRACTOR of his exclusive responsibility to fulfill the requirements as shown and specified. Comply with Companys Representative requirements regarding keying of locks. Submit copies of a separate key schedule, showing clearly how the company representative final instructions on keying of locks have been fulfilled.

Samples : Prior to submittal of the final hardware schedule and prior to delivery of hardware. Submit one sample of each exposed hardware unit, finished as required, and tagged with full description for coordination with the schedule. Sample will be reviewed by the Companys representative for design, color and texture only. Compliance with other requirements shall be the exclusive responsibility of the CONTRACTOR. Units which are acceptable and remain undamaged through submittal, review and field comparison procedures may, after final check of operation, be used in the work, within limitation of keying coordination requirements. Storage and Handling

1.06

Provide secure lock-up for hardware delivered to the project, but not yet installed. Control the handling and installation of hardware item which are not immediately replaceable, so that the completion of the work will not be delayed by hardware losses, both before and after installation. 1.07 Job Conditions A. Coordination : Coordinate hardware with other work. Tag each item or package separately, with identification related to the final hardware schedule, and include basic installation in the package. Furnish hardware items of proper design for use on doors and frames of the thickness, profile, swing, security and similar requirements indicated, as necessary for proper installation and function. Deliver individually packaged hardware items at the proper times to the proper locations (shop or project site) for installation. Templates : Furnish hardware templates to each fabricator of doors, frames and other work to be factory prepared for the installation of hardware. Upon request, check the shop drawings of such other work, to confirm that adequate provisions are made for the proper installation of hardware.

Part 2 Products 2.01 Hinges, Butts and Pivots A. B. Templates : Provide only template-produced units. Hinge Pins : Except as otherwise indicated, provide hinge pins as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. Number of Hinges: Provide number of Hinges indicated, or if not indicated, not less than 3 hinges of door leaf for door 2200 mm or less in height and one additional hinge for each 750 mm of additional height.

Size of the Units : Except as otherwise indicated, comply with the manufacturers recommendation for the size of door control unit, depending upon the size of the door, exposure to weather and anticipated frequency of use. Where parallel arms are indicated for closers, provide closer unit one size larger than recommended for use with standard arm.

Door Trim Units A. Fasteners : Provide manufacturers standard exposed fasteners for door trim units where indicated, either machine screws or self-tapping screw. Protection Plates : 18 gauge stainless steel x 203 mm high x 50 mm less than door width for single doors and 25 mm less than door width for pairs of doors.

Stripping and Seals A. Continuity of Stripping : Except as otherwise indicated, it is required that the stripping at each scheduled opening be continuous and without unnecessary interruptions at door corners and hardware. Replaceable Seal Strips : It is required that the resilient or flexible seal strip of every unit be easily replaceable and readily from stocks maintained by the manufacturer.

Hardware Finishes A. Provide the finishes specified or scheduled, otherwise, provide matching finishes for hardware units at each door or opening, to the greatest extent possible. In general, match items to the manufacturers standards finish for the latch and lock set (or push-pull units if no latch-lock sets) for color and texture.

2.06

Fabrication A. Hand of door : The drawings (floor plan) show the direction of swing or hand of each door leaf. Furnish each item of hardware for proper installation and operation of the door movement as shown. Base Metals : Produce hardware units of the basic metal and forming method indicated, using the manufacturers standard metal alloy, composition, temper and hardness. Do not furnish optional materials for forming methods for those indicated, except as otherwise specified. Fasteners : Manufacturer hardware to conform to published templates, generally prepared for machine screw installation. Do not provide hardware which has been prepared for self-tapping sheet metal screws, except as specifically indicated.

Furnish screws or through bolts for installation, with each hardware item. Provide Philips flat-head screws except as otherwise indicated. Finish exposed (exposed under any condition) screws and bolts to match the hardware finish or, if exposed in surfaces of other work, to match the finish of such other work as closely as possible, including prepared for paint in surface to received painted finish. Provide through bolts for closers. Tools for Maintenance : Furnish a complete set of specialized tools as needed for continued adjustment, maintenance and removal and replacement of builders hardware.

Keying System A. General : Lock sets shall be registered and keyed at factory. Master keying shall be coordinated with the Companys Representative and shall be to his approval. Equip locks with manufacturers special six-pin tumbler cylinder, with construction master key feature, which permits voiding of construction keys without cylinder removal. Furnish three change keys for each lock; five master keys for each master system, and five grandmaster keys for each grandmaster system. Furnish one extra blank for each lock. Stamp keys and locks Do not Duplicate. Deliver keys to the Companys Representative.

Panic Device : Russwin, Yale or approved equal.

3.01

Hardware Mounting Heights A. Mount hardware units at height indicated on the drawings.

3.02

Installation A. Install each hardware item in compliance with the manufacturers instruction and recommendations. Wherever cutting and fitting is required to install hardware onto or into surfaces which are later to be painted or finished in another way, coordinate removal, storage and re-installation or application of surface protection with finishing work specified in the Division 9. Do not install surface-mounted items until finishes have been completed on the substrate. Set unit level, plumb and true to line and location. Adjust and reinforce the attachment substrate as necessary for proper installation and operation. Drill and counter sink units which are not factory prepared for anchorage fasteners. Space fasteners and anchors in accordance with industry standards. Cut and fit threshold and floor covers to profile of door frames, with metered corners and hair line joints. Join units with concealed welds or concealed mechanical joints. Cut smooth openings for spindles, bolts and similar items. Screw thresholds to substrate with No.10 or larger screws of the proper type for permanent anchorage and of bronze or stainless steel which will not corrode in contact with the threshold metal. At exterior doors, and elsewhere as indicated, set threshold in a bed of either butyl rubber sealant or poly-isobutylene mastic sealant to completely fill concealed voids and exclude moisture from every source. Do not plug drainage holes or block weeps. Remove excess sealant.

3.03

Adjust and Clean A. Adjust and check each operating item of hardware and each door, to ensure proper operation or function of every unit. Replace units which cannot be adjusted to operate freely and smoothly as intended for the application made. Final Adjustment : Wherever hardware installation is made more than one month prior to acceptance or occupancy of a space or area, return to the work during the week prior to acceptance or occupancy, and make final check and adjustment of all hardware items in such space or area. Clean operating items as necessary to restore proper function and finish of hardware and doors.
